Check out this EXCLUSIVE clip from Metal and Monsters on Gibson TV as horror icon Robert Englund (the original Freddy Krueger) and rock legend Don Dokken who wrote the hit song "Dream Warriors" for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors talk about their childhood and how music shaped their lives.
Watch as they share stories of growing up surrounded by music and how music would eventually influence their careers as well as placing them in horror and heavy metal stardom.
Watch as Robert Englund talks about his father’s friend, a B-29 pilot, whose son introduced him to early rock ‘n’ roll, and how this “cool kid” whose bedroom sound system blasted Duane Eddy’s “Rebel Rouser” and Link Wray’s “Rumble”-hit Robert like a lightning bolt, eventually fuelling his appreciation of heavy music which would later blend perfectly with the dark intensity he would bring to the screen as the iconic Freddy Krueger.
Don Dokken, the man behind the song song "Dream Warriors" for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors talks about growing up in a foster home where music was an escape and a world of possibilities. He talks about saving up to buy his first records, listening to singles on a turntable in the garage and eventually finding his first guitar in a local pawn shop. Don recalls trips to San Francisco’s legendary Fillmore with friends where he saw bands like The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Cream, The Doors and even Jimi Hendrix by the time he was 13.
This segment shows the power of music and how for both men early rock, surf music and blues fueled a lifelong passion that would later influence their iconic roles in horror and heavy metal which would eventually change the face of horror movies and the blend of horror and rock music, forever.
We hope you enjoy this exclusive clip from Gibson TV’s Metal and Monsters, where we’re joined Don Dokken and Nightmare on Elm Street icon Robert Englund (the man who brought Freddy Krueger to life) as they sit down to talk about their careers in horror and music.

Did not expect this!
Robert englund was my ex girlfriend's, grand parents neighbor in Laguna Beach, the Blackburns. They said he was the greatest guy and he would surf and boogie board with them, sadly the time I got to go visit, Mr. Englund was out of town. Idk how someone could simultaneously be the scariest thing of my nightmares as a child, yet I could grow to admire them greatly because of that acting and the person they truly are. That is what a legend is.
Incense and peppermints was a "strawberry alarm clock" album ! That was the band Ed King was in before Skynyrd !
Hoping they bring the show back for Halloween 🤞.
Before Freddy Krueger turned bad he was a very good guitarist
Ford Fairlane very underrated movie!
I still quote that film to this day!
Back for the Attack is one of the best albums of the 80s
*_Cool stories!_*
No New Metal&Monsters this year 😢😢😢😢😢😢
yeah
Don played guitar?
You didn’t know that?
He is a quite proficient guitarist and played lead on several early Dokken songs.
I grew up in Sacramento. It's 2 hrs from there to SF. Tahoe was 3 hrs from Sac. Why did he lie about the drive time?
Calm down. It's probably just what he remembers. "It took me 2 hours 59 minutes and 13 seconds." 🤣
Cars were slower back then.
