Yeah man I was disappointed that this wasnt a 4h 30m Pokemon creepypasta tier list iceberg video when I clicked it. This just came up in my recommended videos. It's still cool though I guess.
There's not that many Pokemon specific creepypastas. Especially of length most of all managed to be 15 minutes or 20 minutes if that in a read. A lot of them are really short. Someone once made a compilation of all of them and it was about 300 including sequels and shitposts. So even if we milked this sub genre dry we'd be lucky to get another hour max.
one time me and my older brother were watching a video about creepypastas when we were really young and actually believed creepypastas and stuff and it started playing the lavender town music and he covered my ears instead of his own i still think about that a lot
i know for a fact i've heard all of these except for like, i'm iffy on lumiose city ghost girl, the war theory is a bit too vague to be a story, and i know for a fact i've never heard that old chateau one before sooo... i'm gonna posit that the old chateau one is the impostor also love the idea of making a creepypasta ranking where one of them is fake, after krick's Alternate Universe Pokemon Iceberg, and hazel's A Normal Creepypasta Retrospective, it really feels like creepy video game misinformation is making a complete comeback, and i'm all here for it, give me that delicious unreality
Hypno's lullaby was always my favorite when I was young. I remember a version of it on TH-cam being read aloud in a creepy voice gave me nightmares but I still loved it. Also, I fuck with the silent hill music playing in the background at the 10ish minute mark, massive respect.
Fun extension to the war theory: Some have guessed that Pokémon Go *was* that war. Things like rare candies are *rare* in Gen-1 because of how they're made, and in Go they're just candies, candies you get more of by transferring off Pokémon never to be seen again. The process gets banned after one of the three competing factions wins the war (think it's the Yellow team? I'm on the Red team....) And yeah, the use of Action Replay/Game Shark in creepypastas touches on the very real creepy side-effects of those tools on Gen1 games. Those games are held together with duct-tape and twine. Code-injection positively turbo-screws themd if you're not extremely careful. There is no sanity-checking at all, and writing into the wrong areas of RAM will do some pretty creepy stuff entirely on accident. the way the sprites in particular are compressed allows for some pretty serious (and hilarious once you know what's going on) unintended body-horror.
Honestly that one Creepypasta with the ghost girl could have been made slightly better if instead of being a bunch of 6s it would have been 4s instead. Like 666 being bad is heavily tied with Christianity so its not... nearly as much a thing in Japan but 4 is culturally consider a very unlucky number associated with death over there so that would be the logical number to set off a creepy event if a Pokemon game.
I remember reading a good one about an Absol. It was written in universe like a fanfic and used the data from different Pokédex entries. It’s about how Absols are said to be bad omens because they tend to appear before disasters but this is actually because they can sense impending disasters and are trying to warn people. The pasta was essentially about the vicious cycle this causes where Absols try to save people, can’t because nobody wants to be around the doom bringer, and the disaster occurs anyway and reinforces the hatred of Absols
the Lumiose Ghost Girl is the fake one, no contest i noticed it when you brought up the fact she might be looking for a specific Trainer ID. most creepypastas weren't clever enough to actually treat creepy happenings as Easter Eggs the game planned for, it's always something supernatural from OUTSIDE of the game also, not only did it seem very inspired by Buried Alive with the whole "secret unwinnable bossfight at the top of a building", but you seemed to tell the story almost play-by-play, which you didn't do for most of the list
I think the reason you stated why Lost Silver feels like it's being edgy for edge's sake is actually why a lot of people like it. It doesn't explain what you see. It doesn't entirely make sense. It's borderline surrealist. Feels like you're only getting a glimpse of what is happening with the characters in the game. Lots of small clues pointing to some larger backstory with a lot of very strong horror imagery that at the time the pasta came out, wasn't necessarily played out yet in 2010, just one month after the Pokemon Cursed Black creepypasta came out and kind of kickstarted the subgenre of "weird hacked Pokemon game".
Personally I think Pokemon Black is the best of them. I like that the theme of death was purely in the game itself, the ghost in the game didn't come out to kill the author, it was simply a metaphor. it sort of reminds me of Metal Gear Solid 3, the fight with The Sorrow, you must confront the consequences of taking the easy route by being forced to look into the eyes of everyone you killed before that very force that let you get through the game that easily takes your life as well.
Hmmm... The fake one's probably the construction one with team rocket? I think I've heard of the Meloetta one before! Ty for bringing 'em to the table. I haven't been seeing as many creepypasta videos as I should in these spoopy month!
I don't particularly find the Pokémon War theory compelling because it relies too heavily on the flawed assumption that the lack of adults is suspicious, when there are in fact plenty of adult NPCs, and the father being absent is just an easy way to represent the overworked salary man. The dad is even mentioned in the present tense when interacting with TVs in the department store. Earthbound did something similar with a dad always busy with work. In fact, due to Game Freak initially intending for Gen 1's Kanto to be the same as IRL Kanto, Japan in the year 1996, it's much more likely that Lt. Surge is a veteran of one of the most recent American war at the time of the game's development - The Gulf War. There was even a plane used by the US during the war called the A-10 Thunderbolt II.
The Thunderbolt still sees use. It's kind of an old clunker of a plane in 2024, but its enormous 30mm Gatling cannon is still appreciated in a ground support role.
Strangled red had me in a chokehold as a child, for the same reasons you pointed out about it, how the writer makes it clear throughout that its a prequel rom hack and it only really dips into the pokemon creepypasta tropes near the conflict resolution to make the story greater in my opinion
I love the soundtrack choices you made. I recommend considering the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue and Time/Darkness/Sky soundtracks for "spoopy" or at the very least atmospheric tunes.
I'll delete this particular comment if it's on here (haven't watched it through yet(i doubt its on here) but have you ever seen that TH-cam video in firered where you can fight baphomet as a trainer in lavender town? Shit had a grasp on me as a kid, I looked it up the other day to see if I made it up or something
@@SiofraNC my next guess is the lumios ghost girl one because it feels... TOO perfect. Like some creepypastas are genuinely creative but that one felt a little too well thought out with the trainer ID stuff but I'm pretty sure I remember reading that one too
I have a personal scary story that did actually happen, and I'll explain how after. I was playing Pokemon on a Chrom via the "My Old Boy Emulator", specifically Pokemon Crystal . I tried opening up CC and found a weird glitchy I think Pokemon Center (off memory, this was over 2 years ago) I found an NPC, and it said my name before the game got weirder and crashed. I'm a bit vague on the details but it was really creepy, felt like I was in an actual creepypasta. Now how did that happen? Apparently I had moved files around and forgot that I had Crystal Clear (which is a really good rom hack) save data, so since Crystal had the same file name as Crystal Clear at the time, it tried to boot up the CC save data which didn't exist, and when my name was spoken, it was just my trainer name. Honestly tho that has such good use for a creepypasta, or better yet an ARG. If someone actually uses that for an ARG where you get given a save file and have to match it with a base ROM of Crystal or something that'd be really cool, lemme know. So yeah closest thing to an actual real creepypasta actually can be easily explained
