My 04 156 2.5 SW recently went past 180000km, or 112k miles of you prefer, and I've never had any real issues with it. Getting rear-ended is not the cars fault, or mine for that matter, and now that it's fixed it's perfect again. I've changed the suspension of course, but that's normal wear and tear and now I need to change the exhaust. Not bad that the original one lasted 20 years. Only issue I have is the airbag contacts in the rear. The last year or so I've had to take them apart and put the back together a few times to get the warning to go off. Other than that the car runs absolutely perfect. No rust either, the little there's been I've taken care of when I've seen it. Not bad for a 20 yo car.
I have just sold my 2015 Giulietta to a friend. It broke down on the A303 with only 235 miles on the clock. The mass airflow cable had not been tied into the loom and was sitting on the manifold and eventually shorted out. After that, in the time I owned the car it never let me down and went through 7 MOTs without any work being required. The only part that caused a problem was the ratchet on the oil filler cap which I replace for under £15 as a precaution
Just sold my 19 plate Veloce, absolutely loved it. Had it for over 2 years, only issue was air con was backing up and spilling into the footwells on acceleration and roundabouts, wasn't a blocked aircon exit pipe either. Turned out to be a pipe behind the dash that needed replacing. Luckily was under extended warranty. Would I own another one? 100%.
No complaints about my 01 156 t spark that has 40k on the clock and it's a daily driver .just passed the MOT no advisories. My Alfa before this one a 98 gtv with 158 k on the clock was very good to . Passed many modern German cars broken down at the side of the road
@djpunisha29 I had the 159 1750 TBI SW. Cracking engine. Sadly, the 159 was so heavy that it cornered like a tug boat. Very un-Alfalike. My 156 SW 2.0 JTS feels so nimble by comparison. Pity, the 159 interior is beautiful 😍
@@plasticpenguin1 same experience, my 156 was lowered on eibach springs, felt so nimble, could take any corner at any speed... 159 TBI felt like a tank, I loved the engine, but the car was too heavy for it... Also I felt much safer in the 159. 156 was a bit of a letdown according to the crash test....
I am on the GT diesel team too. On my second one, 2008 model. Rustwise very solid. Altough I suspect the factory of cutting corners on the facelift model. Missing vent surrounds under the seats, plastic manifold. Sloppy mounting of the wiring loom: not as well protected on sharp corners. Missing foam gasket where the pinion axle portrudes the cabin. A bit shy with the seamsealer. Backrest of the leather seat is a different model. Screw covers missing midconsole. Seatbeltbrackets black in stead of chrome. All not a drama, but just less love was given in the factory. Not sure if there was more than one Alfa Gt plant in europe?

I've owned a 2017 petrol Giulia 'super' for 18 months now. For the last 12 months I've had the dashboard lights on for 90% of the time (and not resetable with steeringwheelmethod). How it got through the MOT back in March with the ABS light on I'll never know. I've gone around the houses several times on the forums since last Autumn, I put in a larger capacity battery, cleaned all earth and battery contacts (inc. battery fuse unit), removed hvac vent under scuttle and found the rubber seal was damaged in factory, added makeshift shield to go over the hvac vent to stop water falling into it. I've had heater controls set to 'M' constantly, cleaned the 2 earth bolt contacts under the scuttle drain 'bucket', stripped fabric sheathing on the wiring around the airfilter box (rubbing) and also the wiring for the boot door. Had moisture absorber tubs in passenger footwell for the B.C.M. (even though there were no signs of water around there). FINALLY, 3 weeks ago I found water in the boot which was running up to the wiring harness behind rear seats. Upon removing the boot seal rubber around the latch mechanism, water was pouring out of the seal. Coupled with parking at home on a driveway that points 'nose down', it's all added up to taking 20 years off my life. In the last 3 weeks, I now park the other way around, I dried the boot out and I also have a rolled up handtowel running left to right under boot lip which I check periodically for dampness. It's not been damp since so I think I've altered something for the better when I removed and refitted the rubber boot seal. The car has only had a handful of dashboard lights and associated beeping occur since and they've reset themselves within a few seconds without having to employ the steering wheel reset method. So all that work and it was the bloody boot rubber! I've got sunlight at the end of my Alfa tunnel now :) Well, for the time being.
My Giulia 2.2 has done 103k and is still going strong. Due a major service which I have saved for and the gearbox is being service by a specialist. The only thing I have had go wrong was the fuel pump and sender. I will find out at the service how she is holding up. I keep looking at other cars I might want, XE Jaguar or a Marc but why should I? I love this car.
The car came with brand new l zeals but ive just bought a really nice set of genuine quad wheels with p zeros ! To be fair the l zeals are not bad but too many people have commented on why cheap tyres on a lovely car like that so they have to go ! The quad alloys a great upgrade to the ti, just getting it lowered 25 mm with a set of eibach springs to complement the wheels, the ti wheels will be on ebay shortly 🙂
My 156 2.0 JTS Sportwagon, which has over 100k, is in fine fettle. Mechanically, it's one of the best examples around. The engine is as sweet as a nut. The only issues I have is the rear wiper motor doesn't work & the window switches are dodgy. But for an Alfa, nearly 20 years old, it's small potatoes.
Are Alfa s reliable? Yes in my experience. I'm on my third Mito 1.3 diesel all brought new. The first car covered 89,000 then I changed it for the second one. This one has now covered 105,000 miles still on its original clutch, the car has never let me down. I Kept this car and run it as a daily private car now. Always service every 1200 miles the trim has stood up very well. All three cars have been and the 3rd one still being used as a driving school car, so all have taken some hammer. Only two warranty claims across the three cars, on the first car a shock absorber was replaced at the first service and on the second car a new leather seat back cover was replaced where the stitching failed. Mechanically they have been fantastic and still look great, only the alloys wheels on the middle car need refurbishing.
Alfa Mito 1.4 benzina FIRE 8v, 2016. 89.000 km on the clock. Apart from scheduled service, only lower engine mount and ignition coils were replaced. And she drinks heavily😂😂 Cheers Neil🇮🇹🍺
Our 2011 Giulietta is still pretty much faultless after 44000 miles. The only problem we have had is boot wiring issues and the front speakers don't always work properly. Otherwise no problems
This is anecdotal, but last month there was a new Giulia stuck in "Park" at the entry of a narrow hump-bridge in Norwich. It wasn't a QF (I'd have noticed if it was), possibly a Veloce.
To be honest, I'd be pretty shocked if it had fading paint, and signs of wear, after only 5 years. My BMW E36 328i looked fantastic after 18 years, and 96,000 miles, no fading paint, no noticeable wear on anything.
Neil, all in all i agree they are great cars. BUT the fuel pumps and modules seem to a weakness in these cars now. My late 2017 Veloce has a failed pump, there is an updated one but it requires a new module to be fitted along side it. I know I'm not alone with others having the same issue, they are not cheap and require coding to the car.

I test drove a Giulia Veloce and it was brilliant, but had a couple a niggles and when I tried to find a competent Alfa repair centre within a sensible distance, there weren't any, so unfortunately I had to leave it.
I think that the main issue with Alfas in the UK, certainly in East Anglia, is with the Desira garage group. Find a good independent and you should be fine (not sure how this will impact the warranty though).
"ARE MODERN ALFA ROMEOS RELIABLE?" Some people seem to be having software problems with their Alfa Romeo Tonale or Dodge Hornet (indeed things like Dodge Hornet rental cars having software faults and various warning lights), and there were similar complaints of software and electronics issue back in the first model year of the Giulia & Stelvio if I'm not mistaken. Of course *I may be mistaken* and the notion of Alfa Romeo releasing a product with bugs is unthinkable.🙂 While Toyota have had major recalls with the V6 twin-turbo engines and transmissions in their SUVs which is very bad, the difference is that Alfa Romeo (and smaller Alfa/Fiat-based Dodge and Jeep) are still trying to build market share in North America and so can't afford any slip-ups IMO.

My cousin drives a Fiat Ducato for work. He drives sympathetically and serviced on time. Engine went pop at 68k (2023) it's a 2.2 or 2.3d. I imagine it's a variation of what is in these.
Then why are they comparatively poor sellers compared to their competition do so poorly in owner surveys and have among the lowest customer satisfaction and retention rates in the industry?

I ask the owner when last oilchange and always the same answer , app 6 months ago, check the dip stick, no oil there, then the service log , last oil change 1-2-3 years ago and mybe 30000km or more, only still running due to on good quality engines, Alfas are normaly for enthusiasts drivs who care about maintenance ?
I've driven Alfas now for over ten years. I'm on my second which is a diesel Giulietta. Owned nearly 5 years. Obviously they can't possibly compete with superior German vehicles, but they've served me just fine 😉
I am sure modern Alfa Romeos are far more reliable than older ones but most modern vehicles are more reliable than their predecessors. Even the most problematic automaker can produce a trouble-free example occasionally but that particular vehicle does not represent the overall ownership experience of the majority of owners. If Alfa Romeos overall were so reliable and trouble-free why do they do so poorly in customer surveys and have such a low level of owner retention? They are beautiful wonderful driving vehicles but their reliability is spotty at best.
@webmasterg3526 I don't own one but my daughter and son-in-law own a Stelvio and it was purchased new and dealer serviced and it has had nothing but problems since driving off the dealer for court. And like I said your experience may not reflect the experience of a majority of owners. Even Alfa Romeo is capable of producing a reliable unicorn. But if all other owners had the same experience that you have why are they rated so poorly by their owners? Why don't they have better resale value owner satisfaction and owner retention? Why do they sell so poorly? A recent survey by a popular aftermarket warranty company put Alfa Romeo at #32 of 32 marques surveyed. It finished even lower than Land Rover which has been on the bottom for years.

My Giulia Veloce TI is 4 years old and has 50k miles. It’s perfectly reliable. It has a couple of stone chips but the interior still looks new

2020 Stelvio 280hp(US-LA), 37250miles no issues. Once I had a bit of miss fire, but after restart it is all OK. I haven't seen the radio screen on.
French neighbour has a twinair MiTo. That is incredible. Speed. Handling and economy.

That car is new so there is nothing to debunk... More interesting if you get something with some wear and tear and make some video on that.

In Alfa Romeo we trust! 156 1.8 TS 6 years, Spider 1750 TBi from 2009. No problems.
Last Alfa we had was a 156 (the 159 just didn't appeal). Was reliability perfect? No, but no car is. Overall better than a BMW 3 series we had.

I've driven Alfas now for over ten years. I'm on my second which is a diesel Giulietta. Owned nearly 5 years. Obviously they can't possibly compete with superior German vehicles, but they've served me just fine 😉
Reliable - until anything breaks.
I am sure modern Alfa Romeos are far more reliable than older ones but most modern vehicles are more reliable than their predecessors.
Even the most problematic automaker can produce a trouble-free example occasionally but that particular vehicle does not represent the overall ownership experience of the majority of owners.
If Alfa Romeos overall were so reliable and trouble-free why do they do so poorly in customer surveys and have such a low level of owner retention?
They are beautiful wonderful driving vehicles but their reliability is spotty at best.

@webmasterg3526 I don't own one but my daughter and son-in-law own a Stelvio and it was purchased new and dealer serviced and it has had nothing but problems since driving off the dealer for court.
And like I said your experience may not reflect the experience of a majority of owners.
Even Alfa Romeo is capable of producing a reliable unicorn.
But if all other owners had the same experience that you have why are they rated so poorly by their owners? Why don't they have better resale value owner satisfaction and owner retention?

A recent survey by a popular aftermarket warranty company put Alfa Romeo at #32 of 32 marques surveyed.
It finished even lower than Land Rover which has been on the bottom for years.
soooo you only heard of someone that had problems with their alfa, and that was enough to make you assume that ALL MODELS are problematic...
