Had the exact same bike, purchased new in 1977 and shipped it to Israel while serving in the army there. Rode from the Golan Heights to the Dead Sea and all the way down to Eilat on the Arabian Sea! Never had one problem with it. Even piled four friends on it with me while we cruised the beaches of Herztlia.
I Had this bike. Rode in forests north of Biloxi MS, almost daily. Then took a road trip up US45/us41 to Gary IN. And then in the Indiana Sand dunes, until they became "Indiana Dunes Lakeshore' and "no motorized vehicles aloud." I miss these kind of bikes.
Started on one of these when I was 11 years old couldn’t touch the ground was leaning bars on trees to get started. First impression was omg all this power is awesome...for about 2 weeks that bike made me feel like nothing else mattered then I wanted more power. Really still a great trail cruising machine even today and we still have it but its ugly. Learned how to do points, coils carbs and fuel lines.
Your video inspired me to get a 79 250. I’m working on it now. It was rough , smoked and leaked oil. Slight top end noise. Lots of work until It looks like that one in your video
I'm looking at possibly picking one of these on trade. Are parts hard to find? Can you find a top end kit for these? I'm a quad guy don't know alot about Enduro bikes.
I bought this same bike brand new when they came out for around 1200.00 I did everything with this bike when I lived in southern Cal. Dependable with little regular maintenance. The only other bike that was even better then this was the XL Motorsport I own before this bike. I bought that too brand new for around the same price. You can bet the bank on that these are dependable.

I just acquired this same model in awful condition and now after seeing this video I am torn on whether parting it out the rest of the way or restoring it. I remember the first one I saw as a kid and how it stirred my interest in 4-strokes and the rooster tail of gravel and dirt it kicked up kept me back where my 125 Enduro was working hard just out of it's reach. I have eaten a lot of dust since but mostly from 2-strokes. I guess it depends on how bad a person wants it. It would be a challenge to bring the one I have back to the original beauty like the one in this video.
I would really like it if they made a new Honda in that style exactly in a 500 to 650. I owned a honda SL 70 as a kid and it was like a baby xl 250 and I think they look great.
I have a 1979 250 I freakin love it ! It’s white and black but the headlights work only when I touch them right to the battery. I can’t figure out how to get the front and back lights to turn on straight from the engine would you know anything about that? If not it’s all good great content man!
My magneto coil does not spark. I bought a 13 dollar coil from ebay. No spark. I changed the front rim to 18 inch. It used to buck me over the bars. Now it sort of drives like a log with wide turns.
motor driven cycle. high angle rod. speed wobbles with 18 inch rim attempt. corroded jet soldered. not sure jet diameter. bag in chain. not sure front sprocket. does not wear engine when not loading piston side in 5th gear. salinas valley upwind. white line. got boxed in for 2 miles. pump on handle bars. extra tube. front leaked next day. wired spokes. welded exhaust. no helmet strap for 150 miles/235. did not hit prked trucks. dmv lady somehow seemed to subcontiously say stuff like what specically to now actually watch for. like not my truck.
I like that you sit down and discuss the rebuild to explain in all and that you guys did all that within 24hrs 🙌🏽.

Had that identical bike in 1980 with 700 miles on it wish I still had it. It was a go anywhere do anything bike.
Had the same bike, took off the Dual Purpose Tires and put on full knobbies, that was a great rock crawler bike, with my size it was WOT all the time!

I had an XL 250inthe mid 70's Then an SL 350 Also a TL 250. All fun bikes. I took my license test on the XL 250 on a snowy day but passed

I was waiting for a couple more laps on the under inflated rear tyre to spin on the rim cutting the valve stem off or ripping the tube to death.

i had one, big issue was, the cylinder head had no ball bearings for the camshaft. This causes a lot of trouble.

You are correct. 75 model. 74 had a more rounded tank and was painted silver blue with a flat black stripe down the center of the tank.

Duel sport. Good for both, great offroad, great in town, will get you down the highway if you don't need to go fast.
