Was searching through TH-cam for a cover of this song with some grit and guts - "No, not this one", "Nope", "Why did this band bother", then this one here: "WHAT. Wow. OK, this is what I've been looking for."
Thanks! Even when I’m jamming this song to hardly anyone at all, it’s easy to close the eyes and feel like you’re in a stadium. That kind of song indeed.
You guys are incredible. I recently saw Neil Young and Crazy Horse perform this in San Diego. It was obviously great. But this is just as fun to listen to and played with equal if not more energy.
*David and his band have the only worthwhile cover of this Neil Young classic! I will give them extra credit for pulling this epic tune off while using Telecasters! Good job y'all!*
@DavidNewbould Thanks for the tip on the Beat Rodeos, I will definitely give 'em a listen IF I can find a good recording. I got a good laugh from your classic take on Telecasters. I appreciate this gift of laughter, and the serious aspect of it too! Albert Lee and James Burton have been masterful Telecaster Gods! Clarence White, another Teley master, was buried 1/2 mile from here July of 1973. My buddy lived directly across the street and we watched the burial from a short distance. Clarence was a legend, and his B-Bender '54 Telecaster was an example of his "brilliance," or as some say: his "genius". "Keep on Rocking in the free world,"-David!
Wha???? Un-F'n-Believable! Great. Just made it their own but still honored Neil's spirit! Perfect! Mr. Newbould is a force of nature. Why isn't this guy a household name? Or visible. I gotta check out his original material.
The Beat Farmers covered this song in the 80s and it's the best version by far. Also the slow version by the chick from The Cowboy Junkies is pretty cool too.
I say Neil do Rust Never Sleeps in Cleavland then the following spring of 79 saw it in the movie theater. Fantismo! One of the best live shows ever and its on DVD. NO RAIN NO RAIN
One of the best Neil Young covers I’ve heard. They totally capture his energy. Big thumbs up to the band, the Guitar playing is awesome. The imagery in this song is so real it feels like history. One of my favorites by Neil.
telecaster got turned up. but THIS is great. one of those Neil young songs I don't get, but I love it anyway. I always thought it was about one of them 'Ruby Ridge' scenarios, tho it pre- dates that.
Powderfinger” is an inscrutable rock & roll koan: a song sung by a dead man, but full of life and longing. The narrator, just turned 22, was leaving boyhood behind by defending his family's land against a gunboat coming up the river. The day he became an adult, however, was also the day he died.
Can’t stop listening to this cover - really well done! I know it sounds different from other versions. Are you playing in a different key? Trying to learn it the way you play!
Thanks Dean! We’re tuned down a half step because I was pretty sick at the time so we turned down to help my voice out. So…tune your guitar down to Eb and you’ll be right there! Thanks for the kind words.
@@DavidNewbould Yes, Neil played After Berlin only once the day after he composed it after the first Berlin show in 1982. The next day he played it at his second show. I tried to make a cover as close as possible to the original, trying to copy the solo too.
Excellent cover
I agree, best cover of this song I’ve seen!
Thanks @TheHanswolff
Not even close.

Thanks Adam! ‘Preciate ya.
I bet Neil would say "Hell yes, nailed it!".
Everyone who covers this thinks this is how they look when they do it. Including yours truly. Excellent.
Thanks! Even when I’m jamming this song to hardly anyone at all, it’s easy to close the eyes and feel like you’re in a stadium. That kind of song indeed.
Best cover I've heard. I want to see more of this band.
Thanks Gerry. There’s a lot on my page (including this entire show), and on Spotify etc. Cheers.
Great job!! One of my favorite Neil Young tunes, one could not ask for a better cover.
Thanks Stephen!

thanx, Dan. a govt. gun boat? the same people who killed the kids in 'OHIO'? what inspired Neil to pen this masterpeice?
Thanks for that info, I didn't realize he died that day but it all fits now. I'm gonna guess that was a union gunboat?@@danhines2296

These guys really do a great job on this. Love hearing the guitar tremolo buzzing during the quiet part. Awesome.
I enjoyed this more than the original, honestly.
Can I get this on Spotify????
Thanks for asking. Might do at some point, but just here on TH-cam at the moment.
Neil would be Jealous....these guys are heart and soul.
Greattttttt and powerful Powderfing version. On my channel you can find my cover version of a great Neil song: "AFTER BERLIN".
That’s a great song! One performance ever, correct?

Inspired by NY ... But must admit , thet own it... sorry Neil
So are you allowed to smoke at gigs again?
“...since the river took Emmy Lou.” May be a reference to his ex girlfriend.
Absolutely brilliant, shitty leads and all!😂
Thanks?
