    I've seen plenty of videos about SR and improving SR but this is by far the best explanation of how it works. Great Video.

    That feeling when you lose Safety rating because you wanted Irating, but then you lose irating because you played too safe

      I’m in the same issue right now where I’m unhappy with home my safety rating and Irating have fallen the last month. And I want to increase both but I can’t increase one without sacrificing the other

    My second race with D license, someone pushes me from the back into the car in front of me, my car leaves track and get mechanical issue. finished the race with -0.12 in my rating . It just upsets me that i Don't progress because some players just don't care about safety. It is so annoying.
    Great video by the way, keep up buddy

      I had a race last night at Langley granted a few of my marks were from me hitting the wall once or twice and maybe a little love tap towards another vehicle but nothing crazy I got caught in a bad wreck in the pack that bumped me up to 14x and caused me to wait in pit for 80% of the race the second lap I get out someone got pushed and went into me. Got DQ’d even tho most of my marks were not my fault so frustrating

      I know it's a pretty unfair and broken system

    Additional thoughts: 1) I find weekend nights have more unpredictable drivers. Not sure why this is but I'm guessing less drinking and sim driving on Tuesday for instance. 2) Some people skip qualifying and start in the back - recently I've noticed half the field either skipping qualifying or starting from the pits. This makes it hard to be the last car as too many people are using the same tactic. It will improve your chances though of getting past the bad drivers before they get on track (vs starting in the pits) 3) Remember the tires are cold so lap 1 is going to be slower than your practice laps. You can find out where the trouble areas are in a test by coming out with cold tires and running at hot lap speeds. If you spin out on cold tires, expect at least some of the rookies to do the same in your race 4) Build a good size gap or let everyone by before turn 1 lap 1. If you have room behind you can go easy in turn 1 and really for lap 1. 5) Repeat tip: PRACTICE. You can check the iRacing schedule and test at a track for a week or more if needed to really learn the track. If you can't make it 25 minutes on your own without going off track you are not ready to get into a race 6) Understand vehicle driving dynamics - understeer, oversteer, and how to make the car do it/not do it. 7) Have decent controls - entry level wheel and pedals like Thrustmaster T150 - I swear some people are using mouse and keyboard to try and drive. 8) Corners after end of race (until all cars finish) also count so keep driving. Corners during qualifying also count. 9) Choose a longer track - e.g. Laguna Seca lap times are mid 1:40's while Lime Rock is just over a minute. Same # of cars on a longer circuit spreads out the field and reduces the chances for encountering other cars/contact.

      1 ) track typically changes on Tuesday, so I expect people who race on Tuesday night's fall into two camps, either they have been practicing a lot and want to win before others get good or they haven't practiced at all. Wed / Thurs evenings tend to have the highest SOF races which then tend to give the most championship points for a series - so the driving is good! Come friday / sat / sun - the 'casual' racers tend to drop in and race which is why it gets a bit unpredictable. 2 ) if you are a low class / low split - they are just trying to get out of rookie / mx5 by getting SR up and starting at the pit - but I agree it can be even more trouble as you have others doing it and catch up the crashers quickly! I'm going to return to rookies soon and do some videos on it, will be interesting to see. I think the other tips are really good too, thanks for sharing.

    Just started iRacing, the rookie class is all the people hitting each other, hard to avoid when they mean to hit you

    • @oddmanout6914
      @oddmanout6914 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Don't race, just survive and focus on finishing the race. Give them way, no point of fighting you will not learn anything from these people. I got out of Rookie in 2 days because of what I mentioned.

      @alexchen4442 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      And I did........... Then D class is not much better, prob need to wait to C class so I can actually race

    • @oddmanout6914
      @oddmanout6914 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alex Chen Now that you hit D it’s time to improve your Irating and the races will get better trust me. The change from less than 1K to 1.2K changed the races so much.

    • @Kozi03
      @Kozi03 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it doesn't get much better in D I'm racing Skippys atm and I think it's actually worse.

    • @chupposity
      @chupposity 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not ALL the people trying to hit each other. There are some. Look at the incident counts in the results this will confirm. Also once you get to 17 incident points you get disqualified. Most of what I see looks like people who are unable to control their car due to lack of practice or lack of basic steering wheel / pedal controls. Agree with Odd Man Out if you increase iRating you will come up against better drivers. If 178 people register for an event they divide the event down by iRating. I don't know the exact formula but roughly speaking you will be put with other drivers of similar iRating. Crash mongers will generally not have good iRating so there will be less of them. Not an exact science but it does help.

    How does this video not have more views? Explained perfectly what had been driving me nuts, the incident per corner ratio. Felt my driving hadn't change much from D to C, my incident ratio was pretty much the same but I was losing way more SR and gaining so little. I understand now.

    Great info. Soothing music and pretty video. I did Time Trails to go from Rookie to Class C without running any races, all in a MX-5.
    Now I am in Class C with no experience and find it hard to raise my Safety Rating.

    A strategy I have used to improve safety rating, works better in higher license classes. Skip qualifying and start towards the back, drive conservatively, and often I finish mid field without seeing other cars. Watch for blue flags a let the leaders through if necessary.

    I just began with iracing last week got my D licence. what you said about starting from the pits reflects my own experience as I was put in some dangerous positions several times doing just that. On the other hand I'm still too slow to drive consistently fast.😊 But overall safety rating is still a good thing. I will keep your advice as a mantra and try to focus on safety rating now even more.

    3:18 Helpful finromation on "Race Participation Screen"?
    Maybe I missed a chunk ... you let us know where that screen is hidden? (iRacing site is fabulous example of how things have just been stuck together without sense of information flow. It suits those who already know it, and that's taken as "good enough"!)

    I think that for short track oval races they need to make the contact incident 2x rather than 4x because bumping each other is just a common part of short track racing and it's really anoying getting 12x when you were being hit by other driver's

    I'm newish to IRacing, been on the Sim less than 2 months. For a while things went well. Progressed from Rookie to B Class maintaining around 1500 Irating and my SR avraged above 3.3X. After some bad luck and me getting frustrated because of bad luck. In 3 days my IRating has fallen to 903 and my SR has fallen all the way to a 1.53. These bad races were B Class races. Any tips for digging out of the basement splits? And avoiding demotion?

    Great video! Got a question I couldn’t get any answer yet though. Couple of weeks ago, in D rating if I managed a clean race, I would get up to .80 increase! But I wasn’t very focused on it, mainly enjoying the championship so it would go up and down. But now I want to progress to C and all I can gain on my license (with 0 incidents) is about .12! So my question is if there is any variables on the classes I race, the cars I choose, the time of the championship... Or if it really is JUST corners. Thanks!

    • @PaultheSimRacer
      @PaultheSimRacer  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When you got the .80 increase, it'd have likely been going from one round number to the next. You'll notice it never goes 2.9 -> 3.0 -> 3.1 ... instead (for some reason), it goes 2.9 -> 3.0 -> 3.5. So let's say you were at 2.7 and you drove really clean, getting +0.32 - then it would jump to 3.5 = 0.8 ... but really was just 0.32. As per that graph in the video, as you go you licenses the amount of corners per incident for each increment goes up - so as a by product, doing the same amount of clean laps results in less and less increase per race at each level. There will be no actual difference in the amount of SR based on the cars, classes or championship - it is just corners per incident, however you could try to ensure this works out in your favour by what you pick. For example, you want a series where people are not ramming each other / crashing, ideally you also want lots of laps and if you see a track with lots of corners (like the nordschliefe - then that's perfect) I just did the Nurburgring Endurance Series with my friend (it's a 4 hour race, so we did about 2 hours each. I finished it with a class A 4.99 rating).

    If you're just a few .0x away from increasing your license, just do a time trial and get your license up. Risk/Reward on your license not worth it to enter a race.

      @PaultheSimRacer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      100% and then because it boosts you - you'll have a 0.5 buffer on the next level up.

  • @rubenellen7046

    Sometimes i get +0.65.... and other times i get +0.12. Both with a 0x in the same series and track.

    • @PaultheSimRacer
      @PaultheSimRacer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It all depends on if you've gone up a whole round number or not. if you were at 2.85 and gain +0.15 it wouldn't go to 3.00, it'd jump to 3.50 hence +0.65 ... likewise when it goes down, it doesn't go 3.00 to 2.98... it will jump to 2.50 (it's a weird thing it does on the boundaries)

    iRacing need's to do an at fault system, even if it wasnt right all the time it would be a hell of a lot better then the current system that rewards drivers that dont care and punishes those of us that do care. Plus if it was wrong you could just protest it. Its been a request since 2012 when I joined the service, and they have never changed anything with it in all those years. if i didnt think iR would ban my ass i would love to start an iRacing Wall Of Shame series where you go though dirty drivers week to week, then in a few check back and see if they've improved.

    I hate how they put the Series on tracks that are tricky and its a crash fest then punish us if anyone taps you. It’s actually easier to try to win then get 0x. So many times I will cross the line with 0x only to get smacked on the cool down and that whole race was pointless if it didn’t hurt my Sr

    The iRacing safety rating is junk and not very well thought out. I get 4x every time someone rear ends me, usually once sitting on the grid and once by a lapper who thinks he needs to to race someone on the lead lap. Even better you hold your line to let the lapper go and ease off and he comes up or down on you and takes you out. Better yet you collect points for missing the wrecked cars and brushing the wall, no damage just a brush of the wall. IRacing safety rating is crap.
