Expansions come in all shapes and sizes. Some, however, turn out to be mods that are just so good that you can't pass them by. Forgotten Hive Queens is one of those ''expansions''. Is it official? No. Is it awesome? YES!. This is one amazing mod made by Complex and should be a number one install if you have Utopia. It's beautiful and REALLY rekindled my love for Hiveminds.

I remember mentioning a bug to him when it first released and like an hour later he friended me on steam and i helped him fix this very minor bug and a few others of the course of like 6 hours lmao the guy is seriously dedicated and holds his mods to pretty high standards.

He's literally my only friend on steam, and he friended me after I was complaining about Over-Minds being under powered, which he immediately changed. A genuinely decent human being if ever there was one.
one thing i want from hive minds is a psionics path because it never made sense to me that they were locked out of that. i mean out of all civic types they should have the most psionics cause how else are all those minds linked besides some kind of special psychic power? im not saying i want the same tech tree exactly and just renamed techs but i feel there should be some kind of options for them

I remember seeing this guy advertising his mod on the forums. It was trash back then, but became good over time and the quality and polish really went in there over time.
So the fact you didn't play with it a year ago is probably for the better.
yes i had severe issues with it and most new updates would completely break it. I used to play parasites and it got removed/remade at some point. I'm glad its gotten a lot better.
He has a series of mod, all of them evolving steadily. You should check out his work once in a while Complex certainly has a great creative mind.
@@davizitopa7252 The only mod of his I've played with was Complex Origins, which imo adds mods that should largely be in the base game already (Psionic start, Cyborg start, etc). I should give his Collectors one a try, but eh? I never felt Hive Minds. At most I will probably see if I can make a good Force Start TW Hivemind that puts up a good fight.

You should cover *Zenith of Fallen Empires* , it adds an Ascention Perk that lets you become an Ascended Empire; basically a Fallen Empire before they stagnated. You get the Fallen Empire shipset, a whole slew of new weapons and ship parts, and a giant mess of buildings that are ordinarily exclusively available to Fallen Empires. It's a fantastic end-game mod that lets you fight the War in Heaven toe-to-toe with the Awakened Empires if you play your cards right!
The *Unofficial Machine DLC* mod is also freaking AMAZING! Its like Forgotten Queens but for machine empires! Among the many things is adds is the ability to hack another empire's robots and *cause a synthetic uprising* !

Hive civic: when you defeat an army/fleet, chance to assimilate them into your army, a bit like kerrigan in SC
They should totally add that in too.
Maybe that's what the up coming reanimated armies civic in the dlc is

i think that part of the next species pack dlc cause it was revaled the third civic was called REANIMATED ARMIES so im assuming those they kill spawn more armies for you
i was planning on adding that civic with the undead species pack, but i think it might be included in vanilla :p (im complex btw)

It´s hella fun especially cause you get entirely new ressources and the likes. It´s really nice. I especially love the extra resource that basically designates the processing power of the machine hive.
the only problem with this mod is that it has some interesting interactions with other mods. For example, if you use both it and I believe planetary diversity (it could be svafa's species traits), synapse drones no longer produce admin cap.
Editing this because I'm a stubborn asshole. After trying it out again recently this is not an issue.
Plantary diversity messes up all kinds of mods tho.
@@celwenileran2135 true, but I routinely run around 50-60 mods and after sorting it out (admittedly, that was a task) This is the only one on the list that breaks with diversity left. Most are tech, fleet and megastructure mods though, so that might be it.
Huh, its probably been fixed then, its been a few months. Either that or its a mod order load issue or a different mod.

@@Michael-bn1oi This was an issue for over a year last I checked (I could wrong on that time, I admit. I know I tried it multiple times. and each time the issue was still there.) I've been assuming it went unfixed because for an extended period of time it was a known issue and it went unfixed. Because of this, I assumed that it was a more deeply rooted issue in the code and that it wasn't going to get fixed.
ASpec without this is already the Endgame Crisis. With it, he makes the Endgame sh*t it’s pants.
It's not really hard, AI Crisis would have hard time to just compet with a bronze age primitive planet in the current state of the AI today. Their AI is dead for 2 years now

This has to be the best Species Pack DLC ever made...
And it's not even a real species pack DLC!
For people intrested their is another very similar mod for machine empires named "Unofficial Machine & Synthetic Empire DLC"
Now question is, when will you be covering Archeology and Precursor story packs? These mods... are together packed with as much content as Ancient relics.
My only grip with it as far as I'm concerned is the terrible english translation. The mods sounds cool and all, but I gotta pass until they can hire a translator or something.
Every mod had their issues. But they nevertheless are very well done and DLC sized!
Someone needs to get with them to fix the english grammar. But yeah the stories are pretty cool
Alright, I only need to go a third of the way into the video to know this is *exactly* what I needed. I tried to play a Zerg playthrough in base Stellaris with the regular DLCs, but that Organic Structure mod is just *PERFECT!*

Paradox still needs to make something allowing organic structures-technologies, to roleplay as Tyranids and Zergs but properly, and an origin with a hive world start.
I feel like the organic ships should cost food and the resources it costs to build the weapon

there is a similar mod to this for machines though i´ve forgoten it´s name, I use this one, complex origins and that unofficial machine dlc togheter does wonders for my experiance with the game, also found them all by chance so lucky me

This mod is fun in single player, but it's massively OP in multiplayer. You can double other people's pop within 50 years, triple in 100 and lag the game to shit before the end game starts. I've had 3k pops before 2300 easily.
What I would absolutely love would a grey goo civilization.
With its own version of organic structures, parasitic embryos and even being capable of TerraVore.
Basically a robot gestalt conscious that acts like organics or lithoids.
What I’m thinking is that _all_ forms of building cost pops.
BUT pops are super easy to build.
Even if the mod is unbalanced and I never intend to use it myself, I like getting stuff like this because it makes the randomly generated AI empires that much more interesting.
Watched swarm on love, death, and robots recently and it made me want to roleplay as them in the game. I think this mod makes that possible

When I watch your livestream I was like ... this is nice ... Already playing and are only some 200 years in and NO ONE can catch me ... already bring down one FE to submission for ancient catch of tech and currently are researshing it ...
The stellaris devs talked about necrophage hive minds so it has the assimilation feature of mutualistic behaviors
ASpec should also look at the other mods from Complex

I did quite enjoy lithoids - devouring swarm kind of play. u have 3 resource types - energy, minerals and alloys to rock'n'roll around the galaxy before endgamer even show up.
Planet managment is a pain tho, but it's such a minor thing...
If paradox would integrate this mod into a dlc, they should also hire the mod dev. Friggin amazing mod ngl
I don't get why devs don't do this more, or at least buy the mod from him, clean it up a little, and release it as dlc. He's done most of the work for them, they would just need to polish it up a bit.

Hey Aspec, if you're covering more mods I'd highly reccommend Ethics and Civics (Alternative/Classic version), it revamps everything about those and make the game really fresh.
Ho yeah playing as the zergs/the tyranids/the flood(from Halo) etc. is a dream.

Protoss - Fallen Empire, even their buildings are similar in a way, story wise, in starcraft while on the spear of adun, you hear the technology is anciet yet highly advanced, "From a time when our culture bloomed across the galaxy, kind of like the fallen empires.
Zerg - Hive Minds, maybe even Preythorin Scourge, they turn worlds unihabbitable, like zerg, then they make organic everything.
Terrans - Humans, basically. With mamalian buildings

14:50 you can do leader only species in base game aswell, if you are xenophobe you can give other species residence only and soldiers only and keep leadership rights for your main species only, you will get leaders of this species even if you have 0 members of it left if no one else can be leader in your empire

Forgotten Queens is AMAZING but it causes issues such as preventing secondary species from spawning (syncretic species, robots, slave races) and it's unique colossus weapon won't work if you're using special planets (either modded or not)
Aspec you've done a number of videos for beginners and for ship designs but i was hoping you could make a video on strategy and tactics that would allow your navy to thrash any enemy with a bit of explanation on if its possible for a smaller fleet to thrash a larger one ?
This content with minor tweaking should be an official expansion. Hive minds really were an afterthought in Utopia.

You say this is one of the best mods, but the mod called Ancient Cache of Technologies (ACOT) is probably the reason why I have 1,400+ hours on Stellaris.

At least modders give love to the poor Hiveminds crippled by Pdx since release! They are the unloved disabled childrens of this game, and this mods give them a real existence!

The regen from biointegrated tech adds regen equal to 0.2% of the total amount of the ship’s hull/armor, rather than improving the regen that already exists

Is there a mod that allows you to create a very complex species or empire? I would like an empire that is a meritocratic autocracy where the most skilled leader is elected leader. A more in-depth way to design species beyond just traits is amazing, perhaps they have organised minds making them naturally rational and organised thinking.
