For those wondering this is a Native American block flute, also known as a Spirit Flute or First Nations Flute. It is a 6 hole double chambered instrument that is diatonically tuned. The second flute is the same kind of flute but is known as a drone flute - one pipe has holes and allows for melody while the other is tuned to a drone note (some flutes allow for that note to be adjusted). Its nice to see this going mainstream, as many of us in the community surrounding this instrument have believed in its potential for a long time.

This music, style, aesthetic, etc, has existed long before he brought it to the mainstream. It's interesting it's happening, and I believe it is significant, but he is not "1000 years ahead". This stuff has existed for a long time in many branches of creative music. Even the collaborator who was most active on this new album, Carlos Niño, has albums that sound uncannily similar to this.
@evanlindorff-ellery8013 go back and listen to the song Babylon. . Then tell me he's not 1000 years ahead. Humans live in cycles, true instrumental must has always been around. True he isn't the first artist to create such an album. But he's the first hip hop artist to bring this genre to the mainstream. By not adding words that would be bound by an Era he's made his album timeless. Regardless if this is his intent, that will be the result.
5th time playing this now out on my big monitors gets better each time. Congratulations to everyone involved. To the audience for maintaining quiet spellbound state. To the guy mixing man that is clean. And mostly to Andre and his band for percussion and sound state excellence. It takes balls to play original stuff so quietly. Now, I want that “smaller” electric ⚡️ flute. Gonna GOOGLE it, after I write this. Those musicians and Dre, cracked the code to my heart ❤️ with those drums and unique percussion. Thank you Stephen … and, like someone already said… the audio sound team… mixed everything “perfectly!” BRING IN THE FLOWERS 💐… good job 👏 Bruh. “Human Music indeed!”
Absolutely stunning work. I've learned a lot regarding the traditional ayahuasca rituals but never been on one. It's just an argument for those bitter that they can't or didn't do it themselves.
This is really beautiful. Love all of the low-range sounds and the way the music seems to gently rumble. Like you’re floating in a pool of water with your head just under the surface and hearing music coming from above the surface.
What I love is the improvisational aspect of the work. I’ve seen him perform live since NBS’s release. The songs are not presented the same twice. It’s as if we’re witnessing the evolution of this outfit moreso Dre in real time.

I quit my job this morning. This fits my vibe today. I am also a trained flutist. I have a collection of wind instruments I like to break out and play. My favorites are made of clay (ocarinas).
This was a fantastic treat!
Good luck in your next endeavor. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during these trying times.
Play that flute and bless the world, universe will provide!
Good for you!
Yas!!! Show the world your talent and passions friend.
Sometimes quitting can lead to better things to come.
I love that Colbert didn’t speak after the performance, maybe it wasn’t intentional but it does seem like sign of respect for the minimalistic, wordless, meditative quality of the music performed. Loved seeing this on a late show as well, there should be one with ambient music on all episodes! 👽
This is healing. Self-healing, meditation medicine for the body, soul, and mind. I guess Corbert felt so peaceful to speak afterwards.
I hadn’t noticed that. Your description of the music was beautiful
Yeah because the silence was the last part of the music. The audience felt it.
He truly is respectful of what matters.
Great point!
This is a very profound musical experience. I am surprised it is so well received in the mainstream, I for one, welcome this.
I love Andre!!! This is absolutely phenomenal. What beautiful music. He is so talented
This is what this entire existence NEEDS!! Purity LOVE no words… Actions that cause Peace. Blessings to all
way way way less of this ... way way way more old Andre
What a gift to see and hear this extraordinary performance. Thank you Stephen Colbert and CBS.
He's always been 1000 years ahead. It's up to us to catch up. Legends evolve too. The only difference between them and us is we witness a legend evolve. I have nothing but respect for this man. Always inspiring us to climb higher.
He's traveling to ancient times with this and simultaneously connecting it to future times.
Literally sounds meh if compared to OG ambient albums with eastern flute e.g.
Asian idk, flutes
@evanlindorff-ellery8013 go back and listen to the song Babylon. . Then tell me he's not 1000 years ahead.
Humans live in cycles, true instrumental must has always been around. True he isn't the first artist to create such an album. But he's the first hip hop artist to bring this genre to the mainstream. By not adding words that would be bound by an Era he's made his album timeless. Regardless if this is his intent, that will be the result.
He’s on another stratosphere with this! With the way the world is going hearing is healing music is absolutely Beautiful ❤
The note to his mom written on the stage
5th time playing this now out on my big monitors gets better each time. Congratulations to everyone involved. To the audience for maintaining quiet spellbound state. To the guy mixing man that is clean. And mostly to Andre and his band for percussion and sound state excellence. It takes balls to play original stuff so quietly. Turn up that volume there is so much underneath this beautiful flute.
I love pure music like this. I wouldn't even try to categorize or define it. No bars, as the man said. He really earned that standing ovation.
I was skeptical when I heard Andre first talk about this work. I AM NO LONGER A SKEPTIC!!!! I am purchasing this amazing piece of art, lighting every candle in my house, and allowing this beautiful music transform my spirit!!!! Thank you Andre💫🔥💛
I listened to it lying in bed with good speakers several times in a row. I can’t get over what a beautiful moment this is in television history.
Its the tones n vibrations of Healing and Hope .Vibrations of which we Are all Lacking..Gr8ful for your artistry..🙌🏾🙏🏾🗣️
I think this is the sound I've been waiting to hear all my life
The entire album is so great & still on repeat. This is one of my favorite tracks on the album & it's magical to witness it live!
It sounds like the score to an experimental '70s sci-fi movie and I absolutely love it. I've always liked Andre 3000s music, but words can't express how much I appreciate and respect his choice to take such a huge creative risk instead of just pumping out another Hey Ya and making an easy billion.
He has never really repeated himself, and all his hip-hop friends told him "Hey Ya!" would tank when they first heard the demo.
Love me some good ambient music and damn it if this isn't some good ambient music. Definitely music to sit and make art by. Well done, André. Bravo. 👏🏻
Same here. I love his electro flute. Also to see free jazz-like music by a major popular artist who is incorporating Native American flutes and MesoAmerican flutes and take it OUT is amazing.
Wow, that was dope. Andre 3k is one of the best MC’s alive, and to see him embracing new instruments is true art. Love ❤this.
This music is a powerful mind blowing revelation of a spiritual connection with the ancient world..love it
What an absolute legend. One of the greatest hip hop artists of all time coming on and figuring out a way to get Stephen to say "shit" on cbs, them not censor it and then just play chill vibes on the flute for 10 minutes.
Love seeing this kind of art on such a mainstream platform
Remarkable that he played so well while being sick with a cold. What an artist!
You have got to be kidding me the man has admitted that he doesn't even know what the heck it is that he's playing have you not followed this are you going to come out here with that comment come on
@@Real-Tecnica Hope you feel better soon! 🙂🙂
And with woodwind stuff. So great.
Ive said this before...
Andre 3k feels like my Spirit Animal. Great goodness I love and admire this man's soul! 🫶
This song literally stays on repeat. And now I have a live version. Thank you Andre!
Just getting to see him perform again does my heart good. The last OutKast album dropped when I was 17 and I’m 35 now.
Sacred, daring, human, timeless. Thank you so much.
Lmfao
You meant SCARED,Stage fright?, ducking your true talent, and waste of time
Great job Dre.
Mesmerizing and beautiful. Time stopped. I rarely if ever remember seeing and hearing anything like this on mainstream TV. Fantastic! Ty.❤️🎶
This album is so beautiful. It calms and balances my chakras. It also has been instrumental in focusing my mind when I have to concentrate or do tedious tasks. As my son said, "He may not have given us the album we wanted, but he definitely gave us the album, we needed."🙏🏽
Wow 😮… I’m at work and 4 mins in… had to hurry to a restroom stall 😢. I turned up the volume on my earbuds, closed my eyes and cried 😭. “What just happened…?” Beautiful music… and 10 mins on tv 📺? Now, I want that “smaller” electric ⚡️ flute. Gonna GOOGLE it, after I write this. Those musicians and Dre, cracked the code to my heart ❤️ with those drums and unique percussion. Thank you Stephen … and, like someone already said… the audio sound team… mixed everything “perfectly!” BRING IN THE FLOWERS 💐… good job 👏 Bruh. “Human Music indeed!”
Definitely a spiritual journey into music. Well done, André. 👏❤️
This is not for your bumping enjoyment, It's music of the mind, heart, and soul. Like it or not, Andre 3000 can't be denied.
Bro hangs with Natives once all of a sudden he is a super enlightened being 😂
@@thatdude3977you have no idea what he’s been through but you can feel his spirit through these songs
Say it again for the folks in the back..ignorantly waiting for a party!
A beautiful human being. With so much Talent. I felt the goodness of his spirit. Andre 3000 ©️
It's psychedelic, it's outside of box, its quirky, it's trippy.......i like it!!!
We can hold our heads high,
As we appreciate this creative musicality contribution.
Nothing to be ashamed of indeed.
Absolutely stunning work. I've learned a lot regarding the traditional ayahuasca rituals but never been on one. I've sat back in meditation listening to hours of music, some dating back hundreds of years, to the kinds of music that this group of dedicated musicians just played. It was a refreshing blend of brilliance and South American Amazonia. Bravo Andre 300!
This is one of those musical art pieces that we'll be hearing in the backdrop of many movies and events. It speaks to the soul.
I live under a rock and had no idea Andre 3000 was doing this kind of stuff now. Unreal! I’m so glad he was able to perform and introduce us to something so unique and powerful. ❤
Don't feel too bad about it. This project wasn't promoted like it would have been if this were a hip hop record, which is probably what everyone wanted lol. This performance was hypnotic.
I love what he has introduced my ears to. ❤
Thank you, ANDRE 3000💗💖
Super glad to see how positive the comment section is on this, awesome stuff 👍
This was the most transcending performance I have heard! Peace and Blessings to Andre 3000! The CD is dope! Thank you Mr. Cobert for bringing this to us!
Andre is great, but that percussionist is killing it.
Carlos Niño! Check out his collab with Photay, "An Offering". He's amazing live
Yeah he's doing some heavy lifting.
No the percussionist is great 3K is okay.
Carlos Niño the legend
@@foeshizzelwhy do you have to compare and diminish instead of just enjoying?
This album been out awhile, but glad he got to show it on late night!
This man is a musical legend. Outkast, solo work, and dont forget he made an absolute banger of a kids show too
What's the name of the kids show
Class of 3000
THIS WAS AN EPIC ADVENTURE OF THE MIND, BODY AND SOUL. MUSICAL NUTRITION.
He’s truly an artist. No matter what brush he picks up, beauty pours from it. I’d love to see many more of his performances of pieces from the album.
The greatest introvert in music André 3000 ❤🎉
Maybe… now that Prince and Bowie are gone.
Personally, I’d say Thom Yorke.
@@danieltx7066I believe, Nick Drake surpasses all three, as he died a virgin.
...four, rather.
Hey ya would say otherwise
this is *ART* - much *respect* - would have loved to have been there in person, know from experience as great as camera/audio is, not the same vibe/energy as actually _being_ there. all the same immense gratitude for sharing this with us - *thank you*
Kudos to TSCS for giving more than 10 minutes airtime to this type of, well, outcast music.
Maybe we were the real OutKasts all along
With a "K" of course.
The mighty Dongen Family 2024
This might be outcast music but it is terrible compared to Outkast music
Oh I see what you did there… ;) lol
I had goosebumps the whole time
Respect to you André you are changing the western music world the industry needs more artist like you ❤
anyone that says "rappers are not musicians" should take a look at this man's journey.
Also, that's pretty much like saying certain members in a marching band aren't musicians because their instrument doesn't have a variety of keys, or valves, or that neoplasticism painters, and the like, aren't "really" artists. It's just an argument for those bitter that they can't or didn't do it themselves.
His journey is pretty impressive but this "song" is terrible AF :D
LMAO his journey is that he stopped being a rapper to become a musician
@tomascech6772 one day you'll be grown and you'll realise how vast music is (and should be)
@@tomascech6772Culture yourself, there's a whole wide world outside the one in your own mind!!! 😎✌🏾💯
What a privilege to grow with such artists, especially through these strange times. ✌️& 💛
This is really beautiful. Love all of the low-range sounds and the way the music seems to gently rumble. Like you’re floating in a pool of water with your head just under the surface and hearing music coming from above the surface.
SO HAPPY TO SEE AND HEAR MY BROTHER CREATING AGAIN SHINING HIS LIGHT PHENOMENAL SPIRITUAL WORK 🙏✨🎧✨👊🤣
What I love is the improvisational aspect of the work. I’ve seen him perform live since NBS’s release. The songs are not presented the same twice. It’s as if we’re witnessing the evolution of this outfit moreso Dre in real time.
As much as I love Outkast, New Blue Sun is a straight up musically nourishing journey. TY, Andre! [edit to correct autocorrect]
I was just thinking how differently I felt after listening to it compared to before listening to it.
Andre already gave us so many bars now he's giving us all this sampling material 🔥🔥🔥
outKast with a 'k'
@@BG-fc3em Facts! Thank you and I've corrected that detail!
Oh... This is... Unexpected in the best way possible. Going to listen to the entire album now. 👏👏👏👏👏
It’s so nice
So cool. I love the direction Andre has taken his music 🎶 much different than the "Aquemini" days. You're not going to hear anything like this these days in mainstream. Awesome of Steven to give carte blanche to Andre to perform the whole piece!
Relaxing and much needed at this time. Native sounds.
Creating new sounds with meaning, much like the way they do for action scenes in movies, is a remarkable talent. 3000 already knows how to rap with lyrics, which is impressive. It's brilliant when you can feel the vibrations through your creations using the instruments you choose!
Outkast ,wutang and goodie mob.those guys talent was limitless.singing ,rapping, producing, writing and playing instruments.THEY ALWAYS HAD TALENT And insight
Yessurrrrr
Andre 3000 had me in tears by the end. 💖🙏🏻🥹 Thank you for sharing that magic with us. I always wanted to learn the ocarina.... He's inspired me to learn!!! 💖 Thanks again for creating your art and sharing a glimpse of that with us. I'm grateful to witness such raw authenticity. Thank you. 💖🙌🏻✨ That guy handling the percussion must be part octopus ✨🎶🧹🐙🥁🎶✨
Stephen, you knocked it out of the park with this performance. The vibe was intense and all the musicians were so damn GOOD.
Was he the one who performed?
Stephen wasn't even in the game... let alone in the batting lineup.
@Loki_Yogi I guess I should have been more specific in my praise by saying "in presenting this performance". I assumed that most people who watch "The Late Show" realize Stephen is not a musician. SMH.
@andeegee No, but he and his staff were the ones who allowed the performance to take place, and it was stunning.
@@dvyneentertainmentonline1835 🤣🙏
I knew what you meant. It's all in jest.
The evolution of a true artist. Thank you 3 Stacks!
I love the fact that Andre’ made this music primarily for himself. You can make the choice to listen or not. It doesn’t change anything other than shine a light on how much of a burden it is for an artist to do music to please others and neglect the true art they want to do for themselves. This is very therapeutic for Andre’ and as an artist myself, I can relate and appreciate what he’s done.
This man could score the shit out of an epic Studio Ghibli film.
Ha! Good one!
We didnt know we needed that to happen. But we agree :D
I would love to hear his cover of the Totoro theme song first.
Or the sequel to the pricemaster.
Oh shit yeah that'd be cool
DOPE! I love watching some of the great aging rappers LIVE and continue doing their thing - especially when it evolves in such an incredible way. Andre 3000 is an inspiring artist. Glad we get to see him continue to thrive.
The light effect the oscillating laser is making when it hits the glass of water is amazing. This whole experience was otherworldly
You could feel him ascend and come back down to earth thru this performance. I love it!!
Honestly didn’t know what to expect but glad I listened to this
