- FIG Official - 36th FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships - Sofia (BUL), September 10-16, 2018. Bad luck for Arina Averina in the Ribbon qualifications. A few seconds after replacing her ribbon due to a knot, the replacement ribbon broke. Have you ever seen this before?

it's honestly commendable she even carried on. she already knew that was it but she still continued and finished as well as she could.
She really had no choice though. She can't just leave, her coach would give her hell, it makes a bad impression and I'm not sure that's even allowed

As a judge, I can tell you that at least there is no deduction for the use of replacement apparatus, only the interruptions/subsequent faults in the exercise but it is apparently her responsibility to check the replacement apparatus before going on the floor (crazy I know). She did sooo well to recover after so many unfortunate apparatus faults though omg
A broken ribbon for replacement, not her fault, they should give her another chance.

This is so painful to see, you can see the weight of the earth falling on her shoulders. How hard and challenging must be to follow the routine after these problems.
That is really UNFAIR. They shoud've gave her a second chance because there is NO possibility for that replacement ribbon to break by just making spirals, snakes, and pivots. How come they didn,t think of that?

Chipi Niki ribbons don’t break from a throw, gymnasts know how hard they have to throw it so they can get a good height. Specially a gymnast like Arina. It’s ridiculous they put a broken ribbon as replacement.

sadly it is possible 😔 my best friend who is a gymnast almost got all gold in her competition, but during her ribbon performance it actually broke and they didn't have spare ribbons on the side so her dad had to throw an extra from the audience. So she ended up placing third in that apparatus instead of first
I have SO MUCH respect for her. She continued like nothing happened with a smile on her face. That's REALLY difficult to do and really devastating. She's so strong.

OMG That's the first struggle exercise that i see the russian doing at world championship ever. The replacement ribbon shouldn't have broke in less 20 seconds, this is not fair with Arina or any other gymnastic. The organization should have given at least one more chance to her.
It does not depend ot the organizers, it depends on fig - they are the ones inspecting the apparatuses and thry take such desicions!

Mara Ram No. if she untied the knot on her ribbon, it would have taken more precious time than getting the replacement. It’s just unfortunate that the first replacement broke. 😊
Yes. It's 4.2.5.2 on the RG CoP. Also Khattab and Gundlapally did it in this worlds

We dont know What has happened with that ribbon, but she throws soooo high and puts all her powerful in her throws, so I think that she made it tooo hard, and thats when the ribbon broke…

All are talking about the broken ribbon, but can you feel how challenging and artistic was this performance, this shows how much passion Arina has, it's really beautiful seeing this because it's unnecesarily hard, but she does it for love to art, and every movement has soul in it. We have to start seeing this sport as art and not only how many points did she get, because we are missing out in art in movement, that is wonderful.
The problem is: if we start to see this sport as art it will be removed from the Olympics. That is the reason the gymnasts want to call it a sport. The discussion was years before when the FIG started to cut the elements down to only some elements and the gymnast had to do more dance moves. Was good a while until no one tried some signature moves anymore and the audience didn´t showed up anymore. There is a reason the FIG decided to do an unlimited element rule in the new code of points with going away from art and put it more into the sport section again. But I do understand your consideration.
I think it’s amazing she continued with the routine even though she missed some out. That’s difficult. Especially when you have to follow the music and the count.

@@leval1000 It's not hard for me at all. I always screw ball up, no matter how awesome I do on trainings, yet never cry after the competition or break down during my performance. But I have a friend that ran off after one loss of hoop. She went to chase it and just didn't get back on the carpet

THAT REPLACEPLACEMENT RIBBON IS FOR EVERYONE NOT ONLY FOR HER. Having a knot in the first place using her original ribbon is her fault. Can you blame someone for having a knot? Thats really fatal ang costly In RG.

that at a world championship the ribbon reserve breaks at the first movement is unjustifiable ... but that ribbon have put?! One ribbon of the decathlon ?! Arina did not broke it, maybe with the upside down like it happened on other occasions, but from a simple hand throw ... then in my opinion at those levels all the ribbons should have the cloth hook.
Its not the first moment. First of all she pleayed quite a lot with it. Second after the first knot she was out anyway. She needed 20.025 to win over Sasha.
I’m not sure, but I think the reserve apparatus are put there by the gymnasts themselves, not the organization. Anyways I think someone should take responsibility for it

@@mariabasurto6025 aren't all apparatuses checked from fig if they are according to standarts? I am pretty sure they are. I believe it's no one's fault. It happrnes. Moreover, she dis several elementa, before the ribbon broke. Tough luck, but she was out of the final with the first knot...
@@vamps123 she wouldn't be out, or would she? Because two per country qualify for the final. So she could have won a medal in the final, even with a knot in qualifications. If she would had performed perfectly after the knot there would still be a chance to qualify for the ribbon final. Also the the best ribbon score of yesterday's competition was under her seasons best, I think. So a broken replacement apparatus is quite a disaster
Inspite of The Situation, Arina is very professional. She manages to be still and perform the routines with passion and excellence. She is a legend
I really admire her finishing the rest of the routine stably! It proved that she is one of the best athletes in this sport. Her confidence and high quality movements worth anything. Score only reflects how they judge this performance but not represents everything! I still look forward her future and it's so enjoyable to watch. Best of luck Arina!
she is one of the gymnasts I look up to from Pesaro until here. Im still proud of the confidence and the attitude you carried just to finish the performance. Keep going girl you have a lot of supporters.

As someone who have no idea about gymnastics or any similar sport - I really thought that changing those ribbons was a plan. I didn't notice that something was wrong until it was pointed at the end, which - I hope - only shows how excellent she managed that!

I think it's not acceptable for a replacement apparatus to be faulty.
Gymnasts using them are already harried because they are losing precious points by the second, they don't need to cope with further problems not of their own making.
Too bad, cause that was the best looking routine I've ever seen. By far the most fun to watch.

And in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games she had to switch her ribbon in the middle of her routine and finished in fourth place while her sister Dina won the silver medal. The twins officially retired from rhythmic gymnastics on February 23, 2024.

I don't think that she should have had a second chance, only her deductions should have been waaaay lower. They took too many points out of her. The broken ribbon was unfortunate, but she wouldn't have needed it if she hadn't made a knot in the original.
but the code allows to use the reserve apparatus if there is a knot ib the ribbon so she did well by exchanging them, but the organizing committee was responsible for the defective reserve ribbon
I’ve never seen one of the Averina twins fail like this. But aleast she was happy when Dina won the whole competition without her. But still bad luck for Arina.

Afortunately for the new CoP, they considered this situation. So if the replacement apparatus is broken you can repeat the routine 😌
Really awful situation. But Arina has already lost her chance to compete at the finals with that knot. She stopped, try to deal with the knot and then took the reserve apparatus. That's a long break of the composition. And they take the 8 higher scores for the team competition. So her score, no matter what has happend after the knot, will not count. And with that mistake she already gave Soldatova the chance to compete at the all-around-final.
Yeah that knot alone made by her is too costly. Nevermind the replacement.
