    Wow. As a novice I really appreciate when the strike is circled so I can tell what happened.

    While I certainly appreciate other aspects of hema, there is something particularly pleasing about longsword. As a viewer, it just feels like there's a wider array of things we're going to see from longsword compared to most other weapons

      I'd be curious to hear more about why you feel like there will be that wider array of things to see in Longsword. I can speculate but it would be really interesting to hear why viewers think that way.

      @@AcademyofHistoricalFencing Consciously I can think of a few things. Though most of these things aren't individually exclusive to longsword, the combination of things is perhaps more unique. Also most of these points will tie into one another.
      - I think it's fair to say that a straight, double edged, balanced cut and thrust blade *encourages* a greater diversity of movements than other blade types
      - Use of the thumb on the flat opens up an array of angles
      - There seems to be a particularly varied set of guards for longsword
      - I think the two handed grip makes the bind very interesting
      - People seem to be more willing to half-sword, and perhaps also grapple in longsword

    Wow. Weapon master gauntlets without the longsword attachment protecting the upper and lower sides of hands. Brave.

      We love the gloves, but have found the Longsword Badass add on to be useless, it breaks really easily (most that we had broke within a few fights) and is uncomfortable and awkward, without really offering a lot of extra protection. If we ever feel like we want more protection, we wear mittens.

      @@AcademyofHistoricalFencing yes I agree. The 1st thing I did was reinforce the...well truly terrible stitching with duct tape both sides and wrapped around the "finger buckler" part as well. It's the side of the fingers and underside of hand and fingers which are an issue. For my size medium hands, the attachment....so far... Sustains hits really well

    What longswords are being used here?

    • @CampeadorHUN
      @CampeadorHUN ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe Matiej is using a Pavel Móc federschwert (the "mini" version if I see it right), and Michael is using an Aureus feder.

    • @simonsullivan3125
      @simonsullivan3125 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure it’s an Aureus - but I’m happy to be proven wrong (I own both of those you mention and Michael’s seems extra schiltless)

    • @CampeadorHUN
      @CampeadorHUN ปีที่แล้ว

      @@simonsullivan3125 Aureus does make schiltless swords, or swords with very small schilts. Obviously, I don't know for sure what swords they are using, but the bright finish and very deep and wide fuller almost up to the tip is a good giveaway it's an Aureus.
