Carl Wilson was MUCH more handsome than many of today's stars, from film and music, and he was such a gentle soul, never a tantrum when things didn't go his way, unlike some could mention!!God rest your soul, beautiful man.
Carl - my favourite Beach Boy - beautiful, gentle soul with an angelic voice. May he rest in the peace of heaven ... where perfect music will be made! Carl's voice was complimented nicely by Marilyn's ... another great talent!
He died 24 years ago today. Of all the songs of the Beach Boys, this one is my favorite. I love Carl's voice on this song and the song itself. Marilyn sounds great on the song too! You too should have done more duets.
Two great singers doing a great song. Carl left us far too early at age 51 dying from lung cancer. He may have been in early stages of the illness when this broadcast was made. He was the best singer in the beach boys
Wolf, funny (happy) seeing you here! It seems that we both like the best singer ever.He was taken much too soon. Marilyn KILLED this version. This, and the one Carl did at a country club diner, are now my 2 favorite versions of this song. Sir Paul was right. steve
I really wish Marilyn had the power to put all of these wonderful duets and solo songs she sang on Solid Gold on a CD. I would purchase it in a heartbeat.
It's funny how Carl's voice is SWEETER than Marilyn's. Such a talent. Now he's entertaining the Angels in Heaven. I wish we had better sound quality on this video. You can hear it's a bit warbled. Still, I absolutely love Carl's change on the end of the song with the long .."God only knows......" Wow, gives me goosebumps! Thanks for posting!!
Two beautiful people singing a lovely duet of a beautiful song. I thought the poor sound was because of my computer and tried hard to make it louder. I hope they will always keep this duet on TH-cam. We lost a few interesting Carl interviews because TH-cam took them off.
Marilyn McCoo was one of my favorite female vocalists. As a kid with a radio, I tried to sound like her singing along with all the 5th Dimension songs, which were great and many written by Laura Nyro. This is a great video to see Carl and Marilyn singing together.
I saw Carl at a "Solid Gold" taping in 1985...he sang "Hold Me" with a new band. I was the biggest fan in the audience, and he acknowledged my cheers at the end! Love the real Beach Boys.....
The most perfect duet ever done on " Solid Gold"; Carl as always, had such total class, and that voice--no one else ever did this like he did. Wolfsky9
I've always liked the Beach boys, and I've always liked Marilyn McCoo. I never knew that Carl Wilson made an appearance on Solid Gold! This was fantastic!
A music moment to be cherished. Total Class, all the way, the Great Carl Wilson, & The Gorgeous Marilyn McCoo. We'll not see or hear the likes of them again. Wolfsky9
Brian's song and Carl's voice will be listened to 50 years from ow - Timeless beautiful music! {Click BB45s for rare Beach Boys video archive playlist}
A smoker from the time he was 13? It's amazing that some of the singers with such pure singing tones were heavy smokers. Too bad. I love hearing this song in all it's forms.
I started singing along, and then the tears came. What a beautiful, beautiful, duet. Carl, Marilyn, you two were magic together, God Bless you forever. We miss you Carl, more and more as the years go by.. Wolfsky9
Still to this day, my all-time favorite duet--Carl & Marilyn were total pros, & naturals for each other's voices. It simply cannot get better than this, ever. GBY, Carl & Marilyn! From 1983, Solid Gold, I saw this as it 1st aired. Ashley, for you also. Miss Carl more, as time goes by, especially with The Beach Boys reuniting for their 50th Anniversary . Wolfsky9
I saw this when it came out, and was just in awe; they were a great duo, complimenting each other wonderfully. Carl, you are so greatly missed. Wolfsky9
Man, Carl Wilson could sing this song like nobody's business. Honestly, I found myself wishing McCoo would just keep quiet and let him sing, and she was great in the 5th Dimension. Her ad lib stylizing just throws a rock at a beautiful, delicate song.
Carl had said that he thought at was one of the most beautiful songs he had ever heard and was glad that he got to sing it. Paul McCartney has said the same on this song's beauty.
Brian was Trying to outdo his own Pet Sounds and mabey Sargent Pepper... Thats a lot of pressure..... but it all ended well, he did "THe Smile Concert in England, and recieved his accolades... Just My Opinion... But On Some of his music, Its almost like listening to something Miraculous....And there is a lot of Hate for Mike Love, but Mike was perfect for the beach boys, not a sensitive bone in his Body, Perfect Front man for the Group....Id love to see all of them together again..Just Once...
To Davan Mani, Sir, this is the Late-Great Carl Wilson singing " GOK" ; Brian wrote it, but Carl sang it on Pet Sounds, & for the rest of his life, it was his signature song. When I saw this on "SG", I was just blown away; consider that it's Marilyn --the one with the 4 octave vocal range !--who sings under Carl. It's a tribute to both that this duet stands as one of Marilyn's all-time favorites from the "SG" years. Carl was the heart of The Beach Boys. Wolfsky9, 68 y/o

Not quite correct. Lucky Angels have Carl Dean's voice!
steve
He played with the group sitting on a stool when he was too tired to stand up. . kept it going to the end. Such an amazing voice. .
He died 24 years ago today. Of all the songs of the Beach Boys, this one is my favorite. I love Carl's voice on this song and the song itself. Marilyn sounds great on the song too! You too should have done more duets.
Brian writing, Carl singing = pure entertainment
I met Carl working out at Bally's in Akron in the late 1980's. He couldn't have been nicer.
Two great singers doing a great song. Carl left us far too early at age 51 dying from lung cancer. He may have been in early stages of the illness when this broadcast was made. He was the best singer in the beach boys
I like the way he moves his head back and forth. So sweet.
Great version by two excellent singers. Wish Carl Wilson was still here.
Carl Wilson had the voice of an Angel. God rest his soul. Thanks for posting the video!
I wasn’t born during there heyday so I’m new to The Beach Boys but wow Carl seems like the nicest guy on the planet what a sad loss rip

Happy Birthday Carl! He has such a great down to earth voice! Great duet!
This was the best duet on Solid Gold, hands-down!

Love Carl Wilson singing♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Their voices sound beautifully together :)
Amazing that his voice is sweeter than hers. Nice as a duet. Miss Carl so much.
The sweetest voice. RIP Carl

Wow Two great voices, wow what a beautiful moment....
Man , Billy Davis Jr. hit a Grand Slam when he married her.
This is a gem
This duet should've been released on a Beach Boys album, and I swear this song was originally released in the 60's.
It was. 1966 on Pet Sounds.
All Class!!!
Great performance by the both of them!
Carl really awesome voice live or on record. Just great x
Love this song 😊🙏💚
What a beautiful song!
Rock In Peace Carl
Total-Class--ladies & Gents, we'll not see or hear the likes of this--ever again. Wolfsky9

Happy Birthday, Carl... R.I.P.
The best duet ever. Singing together, Carl & Marilyn were magic. Wolfsky9
It just makes me cry to hear and to see this. That ending is just timeless. Wolfsky9
I started singing along, and then the tears came. What a beautiful, beautiful, duet. Carl, Marilyn, you two were magic together, God Bless you forever. We miss you Carl, more and more as the years go by.. Wolfsky9
Incredible!
That was beautiful. I was mildly amused at how the backing was "Beach Boys Minus One."
Marilyn looks angelic. Makes me want to be a better man.
I remember seeing this on TV! I never dreamed I'd see it and all these groovy Videos again. Thank you GOD for UTB.
Still to this day, my all-time favorite duet--Carl & Marilyn were total pros, & naturals for each other's voices. It simply cannot get better than this, ever. GBY, Carl & Marilyn! I love this too. Plus I love The 5th Dimension.

What a gem. So happy you posted this.
Before VH1 and MTV, local network TV had this answer to Top of the Pops! Thanks for this!
Beautiful duet!
Carl, we miss you more as the years go on & on. all-time class & classic, duet. Wolfsky9
What a treat! Thank you for postingthis!
Magic!!!!!!!
Carl had said that he thought at was one of the most beautiful songs he had ever heard and was glad that he got to sing it.
Paul McCartney has said the same on this song's beauty.

Watching this brings me to tears--the finest duet ever. Wolfsky9
Those 80s drum effects are taking me straight out of this
Well a year later & the "Boys" are on their 50th anniversary tour, Enjoy @ a city near you. Too bad Carl & Dennis won't be there though :(
GOD ONLY KNOWS why Carl had to pass away so early
Wow.
thanks! duly noted and video details now edited...!
There isn't television & talent like this anymore. Compared to this, anything on MTV is a dumpster of manure.

Anyone here think Marilyn McCoo lookslike another famous Marilyn the still fabulous Marilyn wilson? both are still awesome
Just hearing Brian and Marilyn sing this makes me wonder if The Fifth Dimension weren't influenced by Pet Sounds with soul twist.
To Davan Mani, Sir, this is the Late-Great Carl Wilson singing " GOK" ; Brian wrote it, but Carl sang it on Pet Sounds, & for the rest of his life, it was his signature song.
