I can believe the theft angle. My friend owns a bar and is constantly having to let people go due to theft. It seems like every time she does a POS system audit/liquor inventory, she is finding someone else with sticky fingers.
The plot thickens 🤔 While there may have been some theft, computer systems to control non computerized products will not be 100% accurate. Management and owner’s also have access to the system so “mistakes” could be made there also. Probably not a good thing to mention firing employees for theft. Without evidence or charges to back it up, could be considered defamation even though she didn’t mention names. Manager should have simply stated that the one owner wasn’t available, and they do not discuss employee matters publicly. Neither spouse should be talking to reporters.
Here’s my hypothesis of what’s actually going on: The husband brgan an affair with the now new “manager”, he decides he no longer wants to be married, knows he’ll get taken to the cleaners in the divorce, also claimed employee theft so that unemployment claims will be denied just to P¡$$ off the fired employees who likely sided with the wife. The two remaining employees are the ones standing behind the husband. The ones that quit on their own decided to just look for work elsewhere as it’s plentiful, seeing as it’s tourist season just down the mountain in Santa Cruz. Why do I think this is the case? I worked my whole life in mostly mom & pop bars/restaurants until I had my accident. In my 30 years in the industry, I saw good businesses go down the toilet because of infidelity. Bonus irrelevant comment: I’m glad I live in town and not in the mountains!
If you worked your whole life in mom and pop bars, then you should be well aware of the rampant employee theft of alcohol and cash. Now, you could be a lying woman bent on blaming all men for all problems that has never worked in a bar at all. That seems likely from your comment.
@reedwright301 It’s not like that at all. First of all, I’m a guy. Secondly, I live in nearby Santa Cruz and since I don’t drink I’d go to this place and act as the Designated Driver with friends. I know a lot of the staff. They’re not lowlifes or thieves. Husband co-owner has had a roaming eye for quite some time. It seems like he either only recently began cheating or it’s been going on for a while and he’s just now been caught.
@@stanford-nf4jk I don’t doubt one word of what you say. The bar business itself is no more sleazy than any other business. In fact, it’s quite a bit more honest, however, it attracts sleazy people. All it takes to open a bar most places is capital, credit, and a clear criminal record. Experience, expertise, and knowledge are not required. I’ve seen and been good bar owners/managers and bad bar managers/owners. The profit margins are much thinner than people think.
