You should ABSOLUTELY NOT remove that pan. That pan is a skid plate. If the trailer breaks free. That keeps the trailer from flipping over

That grease is going to make debris stick to the shaft,

I did this to my jack several year ago and that was the worst thing to do. The grease attracted dirt and caused my jack to seize,I had to replace it with a new one,the rv dealer told me what happene d and told to never grease it but spray it with silicon spray or dry lube that way it doesn't attract dirt and jamb

If it spins too easily - the vibration while driving can cause it to unwind while you're moving, and drag on the road.
Don't ask me how I know this.
You need to put either Gorilla tape or a rubber band cut from a bicycle inner tube around the folded handle and jack tube to keep it from slowly spinning down while you're driving.
Other than that, gentlemanjim75 is right, but if you DO lube it - you ought to disassemble it as spanky522 said further down in the thread, at least once a year and clean/re-lube the tube/threaded rod again.

Hey Kevin. On the base plate I drill a hole in the center to let any rain water to drain out. That kept the bottom of the post from rusting so quickly.

You did it all backwards. You should remove the crank handle on top and drop the screw out the bottom of the jack. It needs to be cleaned of all the road dirt and rust that builds up in it. Then re-grease the screw and bearing inside before you put back together. It will work like new again. Just sending oil down the shaft will only be a temporary fix at best.

This is exactly what I did. Greasing the screw after cleaning it real good. I also hooked up the screw to a large drill and screwed it in and out a few times and saturated the screw with grease.

I didn't see you grease the screw.

Might be a good idea to weld a small box there on the front to hold that pan and other hitch related things. Have a blessed day Kevin. Mike D from Washington state.

Thought the same thing, as I watched. Perhaps he's done that, as I'm watching this build in chronological order.
      God Bless.

Put you a small wheel instead of that pan. Get you a small block of wood with a slot on it. The block can be used for a chock or set the tongue of trailer on!
