Incredible how the Rangers were able to beat the Islanders in 79.

How the hell did that happen? With the absolute sole exception of Game 1 The New York Rangers weren't even close to The Montreal Canadiens. Even if The New York Islanders had beaten The New York Rangers The Montreal Canadiens would've beaten them in The Stanley Cup Finals in 1979. Had they met in The 1980 Stanley Cup Finals The New York Islanders would've won because The Montreal Canadiens didn't have Jacque LeMaire, Ken Dryden & Scotty Bowman anymore. Also, Guy Lafleur was hurt. The Montreal Canadiens had the shittiest Goaltenders for years after Ken Dryden left until Patrick Roy came along. the New York Islanders would've eaten Laroque up alive.

Yeah Billy Joel sings national anthem crowd is psyched and the Rangers got clobbered in this game. Score doesn’t reflect how badly outplayed the Rangers were in this game. Played much better in game 4 but lost in OT.

It seems to be impossible to find Games 3 and 4 of this Cup Final in their entirety.

What happened to Danny Gallivan in this series? He is part of game 2 but was replaced by Dan Kelly in the second period. Would love to see games 3 and 4 in their entirety.

I think his health was starting to be a problem and he wasn't able to travel. He did at one time to games in Montreal only so maybe this is where it started. It's a shame, we lost two of the greatest play by play men of all time too young in Gallivan and Kelly.

@@canuck_gamer3359 That seems logical. Danny and Dick Irvin were the Saturday night soundtrack to my childhood. Growing up near the Canadian border near Cornwall we picked up CBC CJOH and a French Canadian channel that had the French telecast to hockey night in Canada. Even when I had to go to bed midway through the second period I would still leave my bedroom door open to listen to the tv and their broadcast. Back then puckdrop on the east coast was 815 pm. Dick Irvin Jr must be in his 90s now. I hope the habs honor him when it's his time to leave the material world.

@@mysteriomarvel933 Right with you my friend. I grew up (and still live) in a border town (Windsor) and I watched HNIC on Saturday night's until they switched the national game to the Leafs, then I watched the French channel lol. I would even listen to my beloved Habs on the radio in French and I barely understood half of what was being said. I just about cried when Bob Cole retired because apart from Chris Cuthbert (sp?) I don't like any of the current play by play guys and I especially dislike Hughson. And you're right, Irvin must be honored by hockey, every Canadian team for sure.

@@canuck_gamer3359 Nice and cheers to you from parts near Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks USA. I am in the process of building a hockey mancave with a nod to the old Montreal Forum. Comes with a dressing room with locker, hockeyboards and hockey hall of fame area with arcade size hockey rod table.

Dryden was outstanding in the final after a rather shaky game 7 against Boston.
