    Finally!!!!!!! A smaller watch with an awesome battery! I was so disappointed with the battery life of the MK2s and simply refused to spend my money on a product that seemed to miss the point. I came from the MK1 and the MK2s seemed to tell me that Garmin expects women to sacrifice functionality for looks. The G1 solar sounds like someone heard me complain. Just kidding. They didn’t. Anyway, this is my next dive computer and smart watch!!

    I am a surfer, freediver and spearfisherman, I practice these activities for several months a year without interruption.
    I've already had 2 Garmin watches in the past, a Vivoactive and an Instict Solar Surf, but when the G1 came out I truly believed it was the ultimate smartwatch for my activities.
    I was sadly very disappointed! It seems to me that it has some incredible flaws and I don't understand how they haven't been improved or eliminated by their testers/athletes!
    The surf mode is very inaccurate, on a 15/20 waves session it detects a couple of them at most, with completely wrong speeds like 70/80 kmh on some of them.
    So if I decide not to activate the surf mode in my sessions, the smartwatch behaves even worse by activating the apnea mode at every single duckdive or when i fall off the board, putting the gps into operation and consuming battery, so I find myself having to stop and save the apnea session many many times to go back to the watch.
    In the summer I train a lot with open water swimming... terrible! The gps is very inaccurate, in fact, a couple of breaststroke strokes or a pause of seconds are enough to lose the signal and therefore invalidate the training data: total distance, time every 100 meters, etc. (for swimming, training takes place in the Italian province of Imperia, not in Burundi...)
    I was told by Garmin customer service that I should swim with a buoy and attach my watch to it to get the desired accuracy...
    The tide mode, another very useful thing for surfers, records data for only 3 future days and is promptly canceled if the smartphone is not nearby, should I go surfing with the phone?
    I repeat my complete disappointment with this 650 euro watch (Solar version), any athlete trying it would have realized these defects and reported them to improve it, probably they don't do enough tests on their products before putting them on the market.
    I would definitely not recommend it!

      yes the watch will mark the entry and exit point once you enter the dive mode, but make sure the dive watch catch the gps signal before you start descent.

    Really disappointed with the Garmin Descent range. They are great for the different dive modes especially for mixed gas, tec mode but as a tec’ diver I’m qualified to 100m, the same as the Descent range. This is a massive fail, I need to trust my kit at those depths and not have the fear of a possible ingress of water. The Descent range should be rated to 200m or greater like every other dive computer on the market. I’m a massive Garmin fan but use a Shearwater Teric for my dive computer, I would sell this in a heartbeat to buy a Descent if the water rating was better.

    Hey guys, Looking for a dive watch, however also spending my time mountain biking. What are the features with the descent for mtb? Quite a lot of wrist movement and shaking when biking, obviously not a bike watch but is it robust enough to bike with/ has features for it? Cheers

      Thank you for your question. Absolutely, the beauty of the Descent G1 is that it can be used for a multitude of activities outside of diving, including cycling and mountain biking. Below is a link to our specs page for the Descent G1. If you scroll down to the Cycling Features section notice that along with all of the other features, you will also get grit and flow measurements. I hope this helps.

    100m is NOT ok for dive watches. 10 bar of static pressure doesn’t account for increased pressure and the ability to force water into the case when you move your wrist or just swim. 100m is ok for surface swimming but a dive watch should be 200m plus. Most high end dive watches are rated to 300m.

    • @SomaliCoastguard
      @SomaliCoastguard 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be fair they state that the max operating depth is 100m, not that it has simply been pressure tested to 100m. Now Garmin may wish to take the opportunity to clarify but I would hope their use of the word 'operating' signifies that it can cope with the usual rigours of diving at that depth; though I don't expect many people buying this to be exceeding 40m :)

    If a dive watch doesn't have a user serviceable battery, I'm not buying it. Nothing sucks more than being in the field with dead tech needing a recharge.

    • @studio_rtr
      @studio_rtr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The battery life is 25h in dive mode and 124 days in smartwatch mode. Just take a power bank as backup and you should be more than good. I actually like the recharge ability, it also reduces the risk of leakage after diy battery replacement imo.

      1. screen is too small, very bad definition. Completely useless if not dangerous when you dive.
      2. Menu and buttons are super complex, not user friendly at all.
      3. The application that goes with it is fine, but it is more to capture more personal information than helping.
