Just an update on these guys, and for anyone worried about wing clipping please understand that it was necesary at the time while they lived indoors with me and were 100% reliant on me because they would fly into the windows and mirrors in the house and I feared they would break their necks so had to either confine them to the cage which was near impossible to do or clip their flight feathers for their own saftey for a short period of time. If you know anything about birds you also know these flight feathers do grow back and as they were young they grew back quite fast! the video was made in 2015 and shortly after I made it both birds were given complete freedom to come and go from their cage outside. They came and went for a period of time at their leisure. At first hanging around close by and then venturing further away over time until they would leave and only come backin the evening to roost and get a feed. then after about 3 months of that they eventually stopped returning at all and I assume they rejoined their parents flock which live and roost in trees nearby. That was in 2015 and over the years since the videos were taken I still had occasional visits by them and they would happily land on my head or shoulder and take food or have a cuddle and play and act as if they owned the place lol. I then later had to move house to another area in 2018 and sadly have not seen them since moving but assume they are still out there living their lives and enjoying their freedom.

Thanks so much for sharing. We live in Thornlie WA & a few weeks back our English Staffy found a baby Lorikeet outside (which had obviously fallen from it’s nest) which she stood by, barked & carried on like a pork chop until my husband went out to see what the fuss was about. She was very proud of herself😊….so much for their fearsome reputation😂 She’s very gentle & protective of it. My husband & son have been raising it (I didn’t want to get attached, but alas that hasn’t lasted! Can’t help falling for it🙄😉) Your video & comment are very informative. Much appreciated, Cheers👍🏻
I just recently found a 30 day old baby! And it’s already stole my heart! Never would’ve thought!! Love my kitten also! Base camped them for five days and they seem to be excited about the other! Hope all goes well 🙏
Amazing, so beautifully captured each moments. No video will explain the feeding and handling info. like this. I was looking for this kind video for rescued baby lorileets. Thank you for this video.
I recently moved into a new rental house. One day on the back verandah a Lorikeet started hassling me. Following me around, landing on me, coming inside. I decided to start feeding him. His name is Cheeky. His mate then started turning up, friendly enough but not as confident. She is missing a foot. Her name is Peg. Cheeky will come and find me where-ever I am when they want food and they have me well trained. I'm looking forward to them bringing their babies to visit in the coming months. The food is white bread mixed with sugar and water. I tried making it healthy with fruit and vegetables but Cheeky gets cranky, you know that cranky noise they make, and he doesn't eat it. I have been able to hide stewed apple in the mix that they will eat. Now the back verandah is quite a circus with Noisy Miners, Butcher Birds, Magpies, Kookaburra and Lorikeets. /face palm... what have I started ?
hi !! just wanted to ask a question, i just rescued a 6-7 week old baby lorikeet and i was wondering how often and how many mls of formula i should be feeding him
Nice. Don't they poo around the house when the are mid way growing in the house? Please let me know because I am interested to raise one if one baby comes knocking at my door.
i have the same situation, my brother found two in a park on the ground, the nest was much to high to put them back, im into day one of raising them.i would say they are about 20 days old judging from your video, they are cute and one is really friendly walking all over me. they are messy eaters though!
it depends on the birds size but basically you watch the crop expand and stop when it is full. then you wait until that crop has gone down before feeding again. you get a feel for it with practice. especially when you have a few at a time. I keep a record of each feeding and weigh each bird before and after each feeding, this helps to know if they are on track or not.
Thanks for the lovely video . I got 2 lorikeets : Red lorikeet and Black lorikeet After owning different birds for 30 years i can tell you Lorikeets are the best . Hopefully next time you upload a video use a relaxing music like J.S.Bach air on g rather than vivaldi stormy winter 😁👍🏼🌸🌸🌸
I have addressed this several times in the past but the reason is so that they didn't break their necks smashing into the windows while they were still dependant on me for food and first started to fly as they would hit the windows and also to stop them flying out the door and over the fence where predators would get them and they would find their was back and were still dependant. Baby Birds trimmed feathers DO grow back. (and they did) it was a temporary necessity.
@@Friendlybirds ok... and i want to be clear on something 1. I understand it may be frustrating for you to keep addressing the same point 2. I've own birds since i was like 8 or something, i'm 47 3. I HAVE READ what you previously stated and still hold to my point 4. it was not a necessity , I've owned enough birds to know that it wasn't . in saying that, i do understand why you did what you did, However it is wrong and does stump their development and confidence at times when they need it 5. I had the same issues, Young lori's flying into windows, into the TV, Whatever ... I never cut their wings, they never broke their neck and they are fine. What you do is , you show them the window, you tap on it , you let them touch it with their beak in some cases, you can put blue tape or red tape on the window and show them what you are doing and when they fly they won't fly into it , they will vere away from it also i taught my lori how to fly , i gave him encouragement and confidence. i hot him to stand on the entertainment unit then i would be close and i got him to fly into my palm (more like Hop) then i pulled back about 10cm and got him to do it again until a hop because a jump then until a jump because a flap of the wings then 2 flaps then 3 and so on until i was on the other side of the room. Now.. in reality , AT FIRST he wasn't flying to my hand, it was more like ... He was flying in my general direction and i was catching him as you would a tennis ball but as a result he gained confidence now you see... cutting the wings kills that I understand what you did and why you did it it's still not right mate but , it doesn't matter now does it because they are past tht period and hopefully their wings have grown back now
they are they are not difficult, you need wet food and the dry powder, lots of fruit and veg, like apple, pair, broccoli, chilli, corn etc and they need a lot of entertaining toys but most importantly they do not do well by themselves if they are left alone in the cage by themselves they can get depressed
@Joshua Edwards but they can't fly. God gave them wings to fly and be free! Just imagine if one of your lovely limbs was amputated, you will certainly live but not be able to do things naturally like other able bodied humans.

The bread and sugar is not good for them at all. Leave a dry mix like Passwells with plenty of water.

Very nice video
Great video, Now I know that its worth it all in the end !!

yes they are very messy eaters :)
what did she feed them
they were fed on a baby lorrikeet formula which you can purchase at pet stores.
i love this 🥰
thank you :)
Please update how much exactly u supposed to feed everyday with syringe

Awesome video, loved it all. Do you still have them? They make great pets and I have several myself. :)
How often do u have to feed them and when can they start eating on there own?
I was feeding them every 2 hours... they started eating by themselves after about 2 months
Lovely video, thanks. If you want a slightly different take on Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, I highly recommend Max Richter’s reimagining of the music.
thanks, I will check that out :)
Did you have to do anything in particular to keep them warm while you weren’t feeding them?
yes, I had a thermal heating pad under the breeding box that kept it at a nice constant temperature :)
Thanks for the lovely video .

Why did you clip their wings ?
I have 2 rainbow Lori's
NEVER CLIPPED THEIR WINGS
Nothing wrong with it

Yes but they do require a lot of time and attention
wait arent these pest species in WA
maybe to some people , but as I tell my kids, Always show kindness to ALL animals and be compassionate if they need your help.

I have a green naped lorikeet and 2 sun conures and 1 pineapple conure
Why you cut that 3 to catch the baby 😔😔
A neighbour removed the tree for construction, sad, but at least they saved the babies and brought them to me.
can you still pet them?
they were extremely friendly and loving. but eventually both left home as I never intended to keep them, just help them survive and let them be free..
You can’t change my mind, lorikeets a sloppy, feathery, scraping DEMONS-
I’m a lorikeet owner lol
yes they are lol,
but they are also cute, curious and funny clowns too

they are amazing birds, very boisterous
