No candy-asses in guiding, got that? Still the best experience I ever had. Nine months of living in east central BC hunting Bear, Moose, Elk, Fishing etc.

Sounds a lot like hand line fishing for Coral Trout on the Great Barrier Reef - Unforgiving, challenging, not for the faint of heart but totally worth it.

I worked for a guide that was the only one guiding in the area. I actually mowed his airstrip for a side job on the weekends I wasn't cleaning fish. He started out with one cabin and hauled lumber in by plane a DC3 we had for fisherman and drove it in to his cabin. Now its twenty five years later and he has other places that he flies to from his main cabin.

This has nothing to do with the subject of hunting. But I've always wanted to go on a huge horseback riding journey in the summer in Canada. In Portland Oregon we have a week ride with horses and camping to the Oregon coast! Great fun!😬😁🤗!

You have to admire guides its a risky business. The major risk is that it will spoil your love of hunting,Someone once said the best way to ruin something you love is get paid for it.
I had friend who was the best mountain hunter that ever lived and he was great at sharing his knowledge, so when he was at point in his life where he was looking for a career change the logical progression was to become a mountain hunting guide . It can be quite profitable if you know your stuff. So his first and last client was an international hunter of some reputation. The end result was he had him in position to shoot trophy bulls on multiple occasions , he pulled the trigger on four different animals the end result was a big fat zero, booblic , nada. The upside was the deal was he got paid if the client got to pull the trigger. My friend after getting over the urge to shoot the client offered to take on a conciliation red stag hunt which I arranged so I tagged along. The international client had some fancy equipment including a gun that he assured us was like a lazer out to 500 metres . We did the decent thing an got him within 150 metres, as it turned out it was way too close for such a magnificent rifle . My friend whipped his not quiet so magnificent rifle off his shoulder and fire one shot at about the same time as the client fired his last shot.
Any how after I took the pictures of then standing next to a nice 12 pointer and a couple of the client by himself with the deer so he could tell his own story about the hunt.
As a post script . On the way back down the hill we stopped for a rest as me and my friend were taking turns carrying the carcass while the client carried the head. The client started discussing calibres and rifles and optics and all things hunting. He passed me his rifle to have a look at and I was indeed impressed. Their was a couple of hares running around at just shy of 300 metres so I asked him for a bullet and proceeded to smoke one of the hares , The rifle indeed shot like a Laser but I have never experienced recoil like it before or since. The was in some super magnum calibre but had the rifle custom made to be extra light for mountain hunting . So the mystery was solved.

At this point in my life I’m too old and crippled up to even start thinking about doing any thing involved with hunting. I am retired from a 43 year trucking career. But I was curious, what is the potential salary for a wrangler at a remote camp?
