My mother passed, last year & the 2 of us, used to listen to this song, on the radio and cry, over the loss of my late father, who died back in 1988, when I was only 10 years old. This will be my 2nd Christmas, without them both and I’ll be thinking of them both, during this next Holiday season. I’ll be remembering & honouring them both, through my tears. Tony, as a widower of 25 years this month, November, 2024, I know your pain. The only comfort I have felt since cancer took my soulmate away so many years ago is the fact that she still lives inside my heart with her memory. Remember, as long as you cherish what she was to you she's never really gone. One thing I will offer you as advice is to IGNORE those that tell you to stop grieving and move on. These people are NOT seeing life as we do. Until they have lost a huge piece of their heart they'll never understand. There is NO time limit for grieving. You just learn to cope better with each passing day. As I said, it has been 25 years for me and I still wake up some mornings with my pillow wet from crying. You have my deepest condolences and understanding of where you are right now.

I was only 10 years old, when we both lost him. In all truth, I don’t think that the both of us, ever fully recovered from the loss. Our lives both changed afterwards and nothing was ever the same for us again. So naturally, we were never the same again either. For years, I tried to find the words that would describe it, as accurately as I could, to others, but alas I never did. I didn’t have to, as it turned-out, someone else said it far better than I ever could, he said “You never get over, the loss of a close loved one, so much as you just learn to live, from day to day, with the loss”. That is the best and most accurate description that, I’ve ever yet come across, that describes it best. You’re quite right, no one else, can ever truly understand, what it’s like, without actually, experiencing it for themselves. And right again, because they can never really be dead, as long as they live in both, our hearts, minds and souls. For when we speak of them to others, they instantly, for that brief moment, live again. I think that it’s probably the culmination of all of this, that really keeps me alive and going. One of my favorite Christmas songs however I don't feel that Lisa got the recognition she deserved this woman has a voice strictly from Heaven & no one can touch
Yes she is lovely and yes she has a pretty voice but her vibrato is like a machine gun and is uncontrolled. She lacks control of her vibrato and it makes it hard to want to listen. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if you have a musical background you would understand that she needed a vocal coach to help her. She lacks vocal dynamics. ie... Her intensity was the same through the song and it didn't go from subtle lows to crescendos at any point really. She just belted it out all the way through which makes the piece lack softness and intensity when needed to make a more cohesive piece. I wouldn't want to listen to this. We only listened for comparisons because of the lawsuit. My husband was in Choir for about 13 yrs from elementary school through College. He was in church choir as well. He plays guitar, drums and Ukulele. All his other musical training was with professional teachers. I was in Orchestra for 6 years (Violin 1st chair) and was in the church choir as well. My whole family played in orchestras and my mother had Opera training with a professional teacher. The only thing similar about these songs is the title and they are both in 4/4 time. His piece is 4/4 done in triplets and Mariah's 4/4 time done with 16th notes or 16/4 time. Her song has an intro and his does not. A song doesn't need one it's just another reason the songs are different.There just aren't enough similarities. The title of both songs are considered public domain. We believe he is going to lose. I don't think Mariah or her record label from that time period would even pay him money to make him go away. He already tried suing her in Louisiana and pulled that law suit in 2022. I think he is bitter, disgruntled, and possibly broke so he is grasping for straws. Why wait so long to attempt this? Her song was written in 15 minutes in 1994. That probably makes him ticked off as well. She has made 60 million off that song as of 2017 so maybe he waited thinking he would get a cut of her $$$ off the song. Good luck buddy.

Rockabilly is generally in a 12 bar blues, chunky, concert hall, echoey style. Think Elvis Presley's - Jail House Rock or The Stray Cats - Stray Cat Strut. At first I thought it was Rockabilly but my husband explained it is Doo-Wop. Think of the ballads that Ariana Grande sings and they are very similar arrangements.
My big brother died in a work accident 11 days after his son’s 2nd birthday & 11 days before Christmas in ‘97. He was 21. This song made my mom cry so much because it reminded her of him. She passed away last year and now it reminds me of both of them. Such a beautiful song and it will always be one of my favorites.❤️

Mariah's "version" isn't a version. It's a totally different song. Written by a different person. I's very common in the music world for different songs to use the same titles. As just one example, Olivia Newton-John sang a song called "Don't Stop Believing" which was definitely not the same song as the Journey song of the same name.
My wife would always try to have this song played for me whenever I was deployed in the Marine Corps and every year after I retired she would have me play it and I will be playing it all day this year since it will be my first Christmas since she passed away this past Jan

For me Christmas season doesn't start until I hear this song. It goes back to a radio station in Dallas that did a toy drive on Black Friday with the requests for this song it could have been played the whole morning show. Seen them live several times for it, always been great no matter who the Valiantette singing was but Lisa's is still #1.

I remember the first time I saw this was on CMT back in the 90's. What really struck me was that guys hair. Later on, how beautiful the lady singing it is, and her wonderful voice. I've always preferred this version.

Lisa Layne is the singer and she is briefly in the video as a salesperson. She didn't want to be in the video singing as people would think vince and her were together. That was her explanation for them getting an actor to lip sync.

Mariah's "version" isn't a version. It's a totally different song. Written by a different person. I's very common in the music world for different songs to use the same titles. As just one example, Olivia Newton-John sang a song called "Don't Stop Believing" which was definitely not the same song as the Journey song of the same name.
My wife would always try to have this song played for me whenever I was deployed in the Marine Corps and every year after I retired she would have me play it and I will be playing it all day this year since it will be my first Christmas since she passed away this past Jan

For me Christmas season doesn't start until I hear this song. It goes back to a radio station in Dallas that did a toy drive on Black Friday with the requests for this song it could have been played the whole morning show. Had to find the album when I moved because it took awhile for it to catch on here. Seen them live several times for it, always been great no matter who the Valiantette singing was but Lisa's is still #1.
