Richard Vobes ..It weren't too bad to be honest. Slop out was unpleasant. At least back then the wardens controlled the prison unlike now. There were very tiny amounts of drugs We didn't have fm on the radio. The view from the top floor, I remember seeing people in the park on a sunny day, that was tough . I remember going for education lessons in English or something just so as to get out of my cell. A few people hung themselves which was pretty grim. As far as I can remember the food was ok. People in there wondered what I was doing there as I'm from London and they could tell from my accent .

I am not sure there is a big enough demand for students in Shrewsbury, so I imagine it will remain a tourist attraction or a luxury hotel!

Luxury hotel. Don't think so. Theres nothing luxury about a prison. I wouldn't want to live there as a student either - you'd feel like a prisoner.

All prisons are mainly replicas until you go to open prisons.new prisons were mainly two story complexes.

Had a job interview at Lewes prison and they had their executions outside in a courtyard. Interviewer said it feels like a big place until you lose the keys!

Open it for the Shrewsbury homeless of which there are plenty..

there would not have been a window there that would have been the entrance to the execution chamber and would have been hidden by a wardrobe that would have been on castors and moved aside. The rope would not have been wound like that. It would have had a ring on the end that was looped by the rope and once tightened so the noose fit around the neck by the executioner would be held in place with a rubber washer.

I was given a free 18 months tour of The Dana a few years before it shut lol The C wing was for the really horrible peeps (VP's) and i believe they made the whole prison for VP's close to it closing down. Great vid :)
