One characteristic this song shows well is Maynards timing. He often blends his vocals into the mix, but the interesting thing is how he keeps time with the rest of the instruments. Vocalists typically take a bit of liberty with where they land on notes. Maynard uses a percussive quality in this song, and keeps those hits on the beat. This happens through most of Tool, but this song is a great example of it.
Absolutely. Doesn't hurt that he can bang any note at will while doing it.

Really enjoying your TOOL reactions! My two favorite Maynard James Keenan vocal performances are Pushit (live) from the Salival album and Orestes live at Red Rocks (A Perfect Circle). Both are out of this world good and I know you will like them. Also, Led Zeppelin has a song called No Quater and TOOL does a cover of it (also on the Salival album), would be awesome to compare those two. There's so much more, enjoy the journey

You remind me of a guy I used to know back in the 1990s. He would get so excited about new things. I envied that in him. Like everything new was the most amazing thing to him. It's a superpower.
I read it once in a book that the trick is to find new things in the regular and routine work. Even if its something you do everyday, the mundane, find something about it that is different today then it was yesterday. Then, when you truly discover something new, the joy that it bring you will be ten-fold. thanks for watching brother !
One of the best on FI album and arguably in the top tier of song for their entire catalogue. Pure sonic mastery. What Pneuma is to Danny's drumming, 7empest is to Jones guitar work. You should def check that one out.

It’s up there for sure, drops in the Grudge and Jambi are pretty sick as well just off the top of my head
Also check out The Witness by Adam Jones, he is the lead guitarist of Tool and did a project for Gibson Guitars. FYI the guitar that Adam plays is a Gibson Les Paul he has had for decades. The advert is for a special addition of his guitar.
I love the way he plays. And I’ve said many times before in my TOOL reaction that his tone is just incredible. I’ll check it out for sure. Thanks for suggesting.

Watch the live drum cam. You’ll see that the rattling sound is just Danny hitting electronic drum pads. His wrist action just makes shit sound like a rattle or a machine gun, lol. Dude is unreal.

All of that percussion you're hearing is the drummer. In the beginning he's using electronic pads to make some of the sounds. He goes back to them again later. He's also called the octopus because he would have to have 8 arms to produce the music he does. There's a drum can version that's pretty cool. You'll see what he does

Just saw a video of him talking about drumming and polyrhythms that someone was very nice to share. He did mention that he loves African beats and takes a lot of inspiration from them. This song reminded me of some Indian instruments for sure

I actually prefer the studio version over the Danny Carey/Vic Firth video. I absolutely LOVE the live video but the studio version is really mixed perfectly for the experience of the song as a whole. BECOME YOUR CREATIVE SPIRIT.

Watched the whole thing. Thank you so much for sharing that. He explains it so well, also what a treat to see a maestro in his element, talking about his influences and such. He said he listened to the Beatles, ima huge Beatles fan, and King Crimson, who I haven’t heard anything from as far as I know so maybe I’ll have to check them out. If they’re good enough to Danny them who am I to question anything.
@@anksreacts the sad fact about that vid is he hasn't done an interview about drums since 98, and someone recorded all those live concerts but never released the footage so only those snippets, TOOL has no official live concert video apart from 1 - Sober
