I'm an old man,84, that used to play the banjo, or at least try to. I've decided to give it one more try and I want you to know you are an inspiration to me. I listen to your songs normal and slow speed. You make it look so easy. Thank you.
Hello Richard. Thank you so much for your comment. I think one is never too old to learn. It is nice to read that you enjoy my channel. I hope it really helps you. Kind regards from the Netherlands, Marcel
Very nice Marcel, you really let the true melody come through and your right hand as always was so clean and powerful! Of course the Ome was spectacular😊😊😊
SO insanely good! All of your videos underline for me where my own banjo picking went wrong..... I spent too many years trying to learn fancy Bela-Noam-Trischka type flashy licks, and not nearly enough time working with a metronome and getting a really solid right hand. You've done it the right way - your picking is super-clean, you have an exquisite touch and perfect timing. Exceptionally fine picking!
Hi Bernie, thank you for your nice compliments. You are absolutely right. I often see that students want to learn the difficult things too early. In the long run it is at the expense of timing and solid playing. I've learned that melody, simple playing, forward rolls and timing do the magic. Try it, you will be surprised. I only use the fancy licks sparingly. Cheers, Marcel
This is the 84 yr old man again. I just have to say I have listened to banjo players, I think , all of the well known ones. I like your picking over Scruggs and all others. And please tell your beautiful wife I love her singing. I thought it was really neat how she corrected a pronunciation mistake on Precious Memories. I am learning, with my son, to get back into it. Thank you.
Hello Richard. This is the 66 yr old man from The Netherlands....😉 How nice to hear that you make music with your son. As I said before: one is never too old to learn. I'll pass on to Liza that you like her singing. We are not native English speakers, so an occasional mistake in her text might make it even more fun.... She asks me to thank you for the compliments. Wishing you both a lot of fun making music. Kind regards from the Netherlands. Marcel and Liza.
Hi, BB, I definitely use picks here. My thumb pick is a Geipel no. 7 and my finger picks are Dunlops .025. After years of experimenting with different picks, this combination seems to work well for me. Thanks for watching my video.
Brilliant rendition. I still play at 83 yrs and you inspire me to keep going. Thank you
Thank you John. Thats great to hear. As my dad always said "One is never too old to learn". Cheers and happy pickin' from The Netherlands. Marcel
