I was blessed to find two 99s, the "old" one in .250-3000 Savage and the "new" one in .308 Winchester while The Lovely Bride and I were still living in the Peoples Republic of Maryland. Just as we were preparing to move back home to our beloved home state of South Carolina I came across a very nice 99 in .300 Savage for a stupid low price, but I knew in my heart that we might just need that money for our move and setting up our Forever Home....And my heart was not wrong as it turned out. Both my rifles came into my possession scoped and I'm almost 100% certain my "old" 99 was re-barreled professionally at some point since there is no sign that any iron sights ever existed on said barrel. Both rifles are very accurate and deadly on deer. I really enjoyed this video and became even more envious of your shooting stand. Take care, God bless and keep up the great work you do!
@@furmanmackey5479 as far as I know there were no 99’s made without sights. So perhaps it was re barreled. But sounds like you have a couple of good ones.
Beauiful rifles! there a neat story i read recently of a guy that received a 99 back that his father had own had a gunsmith the take it apart to clean inspect and found a diy survial kit rolled up new paper from the 40's with matches inside the stock!
I know I said it before, but they are great looking rifles, i believe they hang so well when you pull it up to shoot, then any other . I have a take down in 250-3000, and I have a carbine 250-3000 99 as well . My first rifle i saved up for, and I bought myself at 16, was a 99c in 243 win. My Dad's first rifle he bought was a Savage Model 99 250-3000 for $50 new , in the 1930's
I grew up the Savage and like see yours. They look and handle great. I have one that has Lyman peep and it has a 3 front blades you push sideways and the next one pops up. ivory, gold or black. i was told it was for different light conditions.
Very nice pair of Savage 99's. Always wanted to get one or two, but never did, oh well. Ya, those peep sights work well with older eyes, I have the same problem with my eyes now, can't stop the aging thing, hahaha. Take Care and Stay Safe.
You’re going to keep on until I go get me one of those 99s. I know they shoot good and were way ahead of their time but I’ve never really cared for the way they looked and with me aesthetics are a big part of why I own a certain gun. I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Love your videos Dennis, stay healthy.
@@gunguy2026 I didn’t care for their looks either. That is until the scales fell from my eyes. Now I think they are the most beautiful lever rifles ever made. And my favorite rifle of all time, the Ruger No closely follows the lines of the 99. Bill Ruger was a Savage fan.
their both beautiful. did you get all you gunsmithing and carpentry skill just from doing it or did you have actual formal training cause you seem to be a master. here in ms its all but impossible to find someone to do even mediocre work. your work is masterpiece worthy.

Thanks Dennis. Watching your shooting session put me in a good frame of mind. I love the total lack of plastic on those beautiful old guns.
You just can't beat those old rifles. That's back when they were really well made. You have a couple of fine looking shootin' irons there.

Great video. My favorite TH-cam channel! I love the finish on those rifles.
