    Hey Joe wish you a great time in Taiwan. Next time you should travel with a companion and it would be more fun to enjoy the Taiwan food together 😉You have taken a lot of time to introduce all the Taiwanese food in details ! Yes all the food you eat like pepper buns, guo bao, scallion pancake, beef noodle soup, shen jian bao and soup dumplings are all very common food that Taiwan people eat pretty often. If you still in Taiwan, I would recommend you to try different styles of hot pot in Taiwan since it is almost winter time now and its actually a hot pot season in Taiwan now. There are many different styles of soup base of hot pot with your own choice of adding different meat and vegetable ingredients to the soup base. Commons one there is the Mala style ( spicy) hot pot , Pickled Cabbage Pork meat slice hot Pot ( soup is sour flavour like hot and sour soup), Shabu Shabu or Sukiyai ( Japanese style hot pot), Chinese herbs soup base hot pot, White Pepper Sour cabbage soup based hot pot, Mutton ( lamb meat) hot pot with Chinese herb soup base, and Ginger Duck hot pot ( Traditional Taiwan style). In terms of sauce you gotta try the Shacha Sauce ( it is the very common hot pot sauce in Taiwan) and mix with soy sauce and you can add garlic or Chinese onions into the sauce. Enjoy !

    Enjoyed this video, didn't realize there is such a banging Gua Bao down in Wanhua near the snake alley, that will be getting scranned this weekend. I've subscribed, glad you liked Taiwan, and good to eventually see other Brits realize Taiwan exists and is a mega destination, gets overlooked (rightly for some people I guess) by it's more famous neigbours, Japan, South Korea, China and Hong Kong, plus nearly all of South East Asia.
    You really did a good job of giving an overview of the cuisine here.

    Hi Joe!
    I enjoyed your video very much, it is fun to see tourist experiencing food that are very familiar to us taiwanese people.
    I would like to point out that the number 10 is not wheelcake or 車輪餅 as you think. Wheelcake is a smaller round snack originated from Japan.
    However, the snack you're eating at huayin street is called 麥仔煎(Mai Zai Jian), 麵粉煎(Mian Fen Jian) or 免煎嗲(Mian Jian Die), etc. Based on which part of Taiwan they're from, taiwanese people have tons of name for this snack, lol.
    According to my research, I guess, the closest translation I can find will be "Turnover Pancake", which is also a kind of snack that can be found in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia.
    Hope that helps😊

    If you try that pepper bun for the first time, well, quite spicy. All the foods were Taiwanese street foods. Different than the Western-style snacks. Glad you like them, but U should try more formal eateries for another kind of yummy food. 🤭😋

    Scallions, spring onions, green onions, shallots: the American version is good; the British too; I’d avoid calling those “shallots” as they sometimes do in Australia.

    • @hungrytoexplore
      @hungrytoexplore 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah for me they are definitely not shallots. Spring onions is what I know them as

    I can easily expand your list to at least 100 must try Taiwanese food. Boba, breakfast rice ball (Taiwan breakfast another category all to itself), cold noodle, stinky tofu, pork blood rice cake, hot pot, Taiwanese sasusage, oil rice,…etc
