Same. I bought all the early NUT releases from the jungle through to the Tech Step. Amazing times. 90's is an era never to be repeated for jungle / DnB!
I found this record in my local vinyl shop in Edinburgh when I was 17, it was my favourite record in my collection. Every bedroom mix tape I made started with this … every one !
Ghost in the Shell: Major Motoko Kusanagi : You talk about redefining my identity. I want a guarantee that I can still be myself. Puppet Master : There isn't one. Why would you wish to? All things change in a dynamic environment. Your effort to remain what you are is what limits you. Puppet Master : I refer to myself as an intelligent life form because I am sentient and I am able to recognize my own existence, but in my present state I am still incomplete. I lack the most basic processes inherent in all living organisms: reproducing and dying. Major Motoko Kusanagi : But you can copy yourself. Puppet Master : A copy is just an identical image. There is the possibility that a single virus could destroy an entire set of systems and copies do not give rise to variety and originality. Life perpetuates itself through diversity and this includes the ability to sacrifice itself when necessary. Cells repeat the process of degeneration and regeneration until one day they die, obliterating an entire set of memory and information. Only genes remain. Why continually repeat this cycle? Simply to survive by avoiding the weaknesses of an unchanging system.
Watching 2017 Ghost In the Shell. This takes me back 20 years, literally, to smoking in my buddy's basement to this, John B - Visions, V Classics Vol 1, etc..
Interested in that comment, what is a reese? I know all the U Turn tunes so know what it sounds like, and agree with your comment. Love the Reese but heard the term before - what does it mean? Lots of well actioned Reeses on the NUT label. So sad they aren't still producing.
"just want another chance bass". Its a sample of aforementioned song by Kevin Saunderson, wich appears on 6:30. Most people call it reese because reese is a common term to describe low mid, wobbly bass, as "pionieered" by famous producer Alex Reece. Trace/Nico use it in most of their records on NUT, alongside other samples of drums, synth, etc. Drum sample that appears in most of heir songs is sampled from Rotary Connection "Life Could" as well as drum sample from "Model 500" from aforementioned - Alex Reece and both of those samples could be heard in this song.
used to drop this at the viper room in the mid nineties. the only ones who used to dance were the huge gangstas on the door. no shit. i nearlly got my head kicked in for wearing mixed colours as well. ie blue and red at the same time. ahhh! merry days indeed.
you serious? i dont remember anyone playing this tune! technology vip got played heavy, not this though, very strange to get to number 1. its one of my favs now though :D
Me too! Remember those days huh, packed room thick with smoke an beats, the mix starts wandering an not knowing weather to speed it up or slow it down feeling the pressure lol yeah man proper mixing, that's how we got the ear huh- we didn't have a sync button back then lol Good memories
@@koncreteto2758 well i was playing in Amsterdam in the late 90's as it goes. But yeah I now live in Mauritius an there isn't a massive need for tubby 40yo d&b djs if I'm honest. What about you mate? You sound like you were in the clubs before
In my top 5 dnb tunes so many tracks don't even come close to this masterpiece
No U Turn put out some next-level stuff back in the day. Glad to have been there when it happened.
