By Dog I do so love Adam's unrestrained joy at being in proximity to these pieces. To think that that may be the only surviving screen-worn dress for the first film is astonishing and heart-breaking, they truly had no idea at the time just what they had made. Anything that reminds us of Carrie, that anchors her importance to the world is precious indeed.
Crazy to think that Star Wars started with a bedsheet that had a cheap spray painted (hurr durr chrome = spacey futuristic) vinyl belt with bland belt buckles glued to it, and ended with heavy brocate, silk, hand made brass filigree and crystals woven into Padme's dresses and whatnot. Really recommend Alinger's book btw. Must read, not just to learn about the costumes, but also to pay your own mental tribute to the credited and lauded costume designers, some of which even died before the movies were released and never got to know what a huge achievement and service to movie history they made.
The dress may have been used in only 'one scene' but it was used quite a bit for hero photo shoots and the like (Rolling Stone used one of these snaps on their Star Wars cover).
In the final presentation scene of "A new Hope" Princess Leia presents Han Solo and Luke Skywalker with the Medals of Bravery, she is wearing the silver Planetoid Valleys necklace and Darina’s cuff bracelet by Finnish designer Björn Weckström. They pretty much came directly form that jeweller's shop in New York. Some VERY particular and special adornments.
Kinda crazy that none of the other Leia dresses from A New Hope survived. There must have been multiples of the white dress with the hood that she wore through 99 percent of the movie. They all ended up in the trash I guess. Or maybe someone tucked one away somewhere and it's yet to be discovered.
Princess Leia will always be one of my all-time favorite characters ever. Everything about her is so iconic, and Carrie Fisher brought so much life to the role. From her hairbuns to her understated white dresses to her slave getup to her rebel fatigues, she always looked amazing and kicked ass while doing so. It's so cool that at least this one dress from the award ceremony survived.
It is THE necklace. The very same necklace was also on display at the Tellus Science Museum in 2020. A replica of the Planetoid Valleys Necklace can be bought from the original makers online store and costs around 2770 EUR/3000 USD/2390 GBP.
@@DanielThureskog I'm not sure it counts as a replica when it was actually an existing commercial necklace design that simply got used in the film because it looked good and spacey, was basically my point. :-)

I'm always interested in the props and the ships rather than the costumes, but I have enormous respect for the work costuming does. That little tiny scene did so much to make the franchise work. Up until that point we were only told she was a princess, but this scene showed it, while also having a feel of a government-in-exile trying to uphold the functions of state in a dire situation.
I have a vintage wedding gown from the 70s made of Qiana nylon, which is the same fabric as the other dress in the Leia wears in film. Interestingly enough, it would take minimal modifications to alter that dress into this one.
Back in 1999 I went to "Legend Of Myth" SW exhibition at the Smithsonian. They had her Bespin outfit on display, and that was exactly my first thought too. You know she was small (comparing her to the other cast members), but it's not until you see one of the costumes where you truly get the sense of scale.

Deckard's shoes are Adidas Official Referee's. They were made from patent leather so they can be shined. The production team used acetone to remove all the gold logos, and changed the flat black laces to round brown laces.
Dollars to donuts, the sneakers on that Deckard costume are simply spray painted Adidas "Stan Smiths". The give-aways are the three hole-punched stripes on the sides, the number of lace eyelets and the toe/sole construction.
It's possible they are a knock-off pair of Adidas Stan Smiths... The shoes have gone through various iterations over the years adding logos here and there. Some very early ones seem to just have a screen printed logo so they could have easily been painted over. More recently they seem to have added embossed logos into the side and bottom of the rubber sole. The thing that strikes me about these shoes in the video is the sole construction itself.
