About 25 years ago, there were lots of light action baitcasting rods in the stores. People have always liked rod bend when fighting a fish, its been that way for generations. Many of us have been fishing for bass with ultralight lures and rods since the 1970’s, so ultra light bass fishing is certainly not new, there has always been lots of light tackle fanatics out there. The only thing thats really new that we didn’t have before, are these BFS bait casting reels with light weight spools that allow us to cast ultralight lures without using a spinning outfit. This has made ultralight fishing easier for those who aren’t already using spinning tackle or fly rods.
Correct! I started with the ultra lights using spinning rods then it got me into the BFS reel fishing. I think in one way or another each style of fishing is getting picked up by another group of fisherman. We all just learn from each other and implement it to our own styles. One of the beauties of fishing in my opinion
BFS! Yes I have been looking for a set up that won't break the bank! What are you using? Did you just use a regular baitcaster or a special one rated for small baits? I normally just use my spinning set up.
The rod im using is a Megabass Levante 6’4 Light action rated from 1/16 to 1/4 it throws some smaller ones too with no issue and the reel is a Shimano Calcutta Conquest BFS model, they do have multiple BFS models from shimano that are cheaper and great and other companies with really good pricing too. I’ve heard really good things about the KastKing Kestrel BFS combo won’t break the bank and people seem to love them! Hope this helps!
