  • ST-Link V2 Error: "Can not connect to target"
I have been trying to share some of my helpful experiences with you which I faced in the electronic and programming field and provide some viable solutions since I feel it would help and save your time. A couple of days ago, I was struggling with ST-Link V2 to program an ARM microcontroller (STM32F103C8T6). This is the error message that I got when I tried to connect to the microcontroller:
    "Can not connect to target"
I checked everything multiple times, and they seemed it was connected correctly, However it was not able to connect to the target microcontroller. At the end of the day, I opened the programmer casing curiously and all of a sudden, there was the name of the pins programmer on the PCB as well, I compared the PCB pin names with the cover pin names, the interesting thing was that they could not match !!!!!
There was something wrong with the pin names, which were labeled on the casing, and real pin names that were connected to the PCB, Finally I connected the programmer to ARM microcontroller based on PCB pin names and not the cover pin names, and it ultimately, worked correctly !!!!

OMG... I had reviewed the soldering without realizing that I have the same error, the soldering points do not match the schematic of the casing... Bravo!!! more than two hours lost for this problem...
    Thanks a lot.

F*U@rK! I have been trying to get this working for two days, I even ordered a new one tihnking this was faulty! I even wondered if the case was on backwards and slid the case off to check but the pinout is correct on one side and the other had a piece of tape on it. After I saw this video I decided to pull the tape off and sure enough the PCB was labelled differently to the case, aaarrrrggg. Plugged in according to the PCB and it now works! Thanks heaps!!! 👍👍👍👍

I have one of this. The PCB and the case is the same text, but the programmer utility sad NO ST-LINK detected. I can update the firmware, but when i connect to only the USB adapter, the program sad NO ST-LINK detected. In Settings menu after i unplug and replug, i can change any settings.

I have two ST-Link V2's and both have the correct naming on the housing as on the PCB. Still, i get the target cannot connect to target error. Blue casing. Any other suggestions ?

destroy that with hammer and switch to arduino or smth else
i know i'll do that, i've bought over a year ago discovery board that couldn't connect, turns out embedded st-link is v1 and is no longer supported, bought external st-linkv2 not working when i found this video i thought it was it but nope.
fuck that shit life is to short
