      GreenLightFilming Yes sirrr. Rebuilding the whole back half right now. It’s got a 9 bolt that I just welded the axle tubes to the housing. 3.27 gears. The mini spool I ordered is one whole piece with 4 holes for the three cross shafts in the enclosed carrier. Pretty much a spool. Whole new suspension, new pump, fuel lines. Painted undercarriage. Gonna be sweet.

    I have an 85 L69. I pulled the carb/ECU harness out because it was crap and ran a vacuum distributer as well. The reverse light wiring are in that harness if they never hooked it back up. I just reran after I pulled mine out. The plug for that is on the divers side of the trans.

    Just scored an 85 Iroc Z, you got lucky, mine was 15" deep in the ground and had been sitting for 15 yrs with a blown head gasket, BUTT I got it for 500 bux. Yesterday I got the balls to try and crank it, didnt wanted to find out it was seized but did anyway and its moving. Time to drop the tank and then do the heads. Took 3 days to get the motor clean of the mouse crap did I mention that they ate the plug wires in half but didn't touch any of the other wiring.

    • @Greenlightfilming
      @Greenlightfilming  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Overall I'd say you got fairly lucky if it ends up being "as advertised" if it was buried that deep and the mice found it. They can really wreak havoc on a car. Good luck with your project! Sounds like the price was right.

    As far a the battery voltage dropping when the electric fan turns on, check to see if it is a factory fan motor. I have the factory dual electric fans on my Firebird and the primary fan started to go. It would still work but, drawing way to much current. So much in fact it was melting the wire harness to the battery. I put in new GM fan motor and replaced the fan wires. About a year later, on a very hot day, the same thing happened to the secondary cooling fan. Replaced that motor, and both have work flawlessly ever since, with no crazy current draw.

    • @Greenlightfilming
      @Greenlightfilming  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That could very well be it. I have spun the fans by hand since reading you comment and the motors seem to be "free", although that doesn't account for the motor's windings. It could be a bad fan, that's for sure. Thanks for the tip, I'll keep that in mind.

I was watching another TH-cam video recently of a car getting tuned on the dyno that was draining power when the fans kicked on and it ended up being what they just to tap into power of. You used the wrong oil.. Its a flat tappet motor and you need to run Diesel oil like shell rottella T-6 because it has more zink in it for lubricating the lifters and cam. I Use a zddp zink additive also in both of my 3rd gens with flat tappet cams.. Newer 1987 and up motors with center bolt valve covers all have roller cams and lifters and you can run any type of oil in them!

    • @Greenlightfilming
      @Greenlightfilming  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right, I have to give it to you. That's something that I totally overlooked! I'll add some of that zinc additive to it before driving it again. Thanks for pointing that out.

    • @HockeyGoon939
      @HockeyGoon939 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Modern diesel oil isn't much higher in zinc than most regular gas motor oil. All the emissions on modern diesels has changed the formula. Unless you can find some specifically rated CJ-4(1200 parts per million), if it's CI-4 or higher (less than 800 parts per million, some times a lot less) the zinc content is so low it doesn't matter. Most of what's on the market is CK-4, the zinc has been lowered to keep the regenerater from burning up. Similar to the issues gas engines have with catalytic converters.

    • @HockeyGoon939
      @HockeyGoon939 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If that 350 is from the 70s I doubt you need to worry about zinc. It's needed primarily during break in to treat the cam. After 40 years the cam is either good or it's gone.
