I love how Jason Bateman can deliver the goofiest dialogue in such a dry and understated way. He’s basically playing a joke character with the utmost sincerity.
Pretty sure he went to the "Christopher Lloyd School of Comedic Delivery". Don't believe me? Just go back and watch any of the Back to the Future movies. Chris Lloyd played Doc Brown totally straight and it was one of the most effective comedic performances of the late 20th Century. Same for Suburban Commando and any of a number of other movies of his. Christopher Lloyd is basically the maestro of 'play it straight and make it funny'.
Michael Bluth when he hits rock bottom lol. Bateman took a small scene and made it hilarious..tone of his voice, creepy smile. Affleck even had to turn away from camera.
They did a great job in making him look like a sleazy lawyer too. The mussed up hair, half a suit in his underwear and even cold sores on his lip. He screams pathetic trust fund baby and its perfect.
If I didn't know better, on top of trying NOT to laugh his ass off, Ben Affleck seems to be impressed with Jason Bateman's performance in a "DAMN, this dude is KILLIN' IT!" kind of way. Wonder how many takes this took.
Just heard them talking about this in the Affleck interview on Smartless and yeah Ben was like: the second you ripped out that monologue I was like… 🙌🏼🙌🏼
My FAVOURITE Jason Bateman role! Weeeee! So happy to watch it for the one millionth time. Keep posting Smokin' Aces clips whoever you are, sweet, sweet human.
Joe Carnahan wrote and directed this film. His brother, Matthew Michael Carnahan, wrote The Kingdom, which was directed by Peter Berg, who is in this scene, and stars Jason Batman, who is also in this scene. Jeremy Piven makes a cameo in that film as well, and played in this one too.
Josh Lavian I just watched some “spencer confidential” movie on Netflix that Berg directed... Don’t forget “Lone survivor “ Apparently Berg is having quite the career...🤣🤣🤣💪👍🥃
Definitely one of the best scenes, but theres more. Chris Pine and the tremor bros making their entrance when they kill affleck was also great. This movie is actually pretty underrated
Bateman hilarious..love the raspy voice hes using..crack up everytime see him miss affleck hi five..he makes affleck laugh for real when doing the lock bump, u see ben smile and turn around lol.
"punch'em in the seed, hit'em in the brown!" Hilarious worse that guy really exists I have business associate flying around Florida somewhere just like Rip Reed, "the horror, the horror!"
@@mattlayne8164 I'll watch it again but I didn't like it. Or maybe it's just that this moment is a solid 10 and the rest of the film is only a 6 or a shaky 7 so it seemed like a huge disparity.
Wow, id have to completely disagree.. In my personal opinion, the movie is a 10 out of 10.. Everything i love about cinema. Alicia Keys partner blasting a 50. cal at Ryan Reynolds while Ben Affleck’s homie tries plotting revenge on the crazy psychopath’s who murdered them, also trying to kill the dude everyone else is trying to kill and or protect. The unpredictability, the big reveal, the comedy, action, the dialogue.. it all hit for me.. The all star cast Ray Liotta, Jeremy Piven, Common, Chris Pine, Tommy Flanagan as Soot absolutely killed the role..
Did you notice that Jason Bateman got some serious acting gigs after this? This is as much auditioning in front of two directors as it is acting. He nailed it.
Jason Bateman, OMG lol. This helped jump-start his career, on top of other many small roles. But it's classic. "Hit him in the seed", "Bunch him in the brown". Lol
Surprised with Bateman's performance in this. He has the mad acting chops to play other characters. He always plays the "average man" in his recent films.
Is it me, or between the :23-:27 marks, Peter Berg seems to be caught off guard by what seems to be, Jason Bateman seemingly improvising his lines? There's a REAL quick shot of him looking right at the camera, with a "WTF is happening here?!" look on his face.
I love how Jason Bateman can deliver the goofiest dialogue in such a dry and understated way. He’s basically playing a joke character with the utmost sincerity.
What makes it perfect is knowing there are actual people in the world that exist and are to a certain degree like this 😂

He is absolutely hysterical. Theres so much in this scene.

Pure spun gold🥇👍
I read that as Batman at first
Ben Affleck is trying not to laugh the whole time. Love it
I never saw it the first time around until I listened to the commentary

Affleck turning away from the camera is low key hilarious
LOL The Herpes was a nice touch!
Bateman oozes talent anywhere he's at. It's nuts.
This is seriously one of the best movies ever. Full of hysterical one liners and killer acting!
He’s giving us up to the Feds Hugo!
Ben Affleck needing to turn away from the camera to hide the fact he's pissing himself laughing 1:30
Thats hilarious. Seen this movie a dozen or more times and never noticed that. And Jason Bateman is great in this.
The whole time Bateman talks he has that grin on his face. I love this scene LOL.

1:30 Affleck breaks. Jason Bateman is funny as hell.
Lmao he did! How i didn't see that years ago the first time !
Even when he breaks he's a professional. He casually turns away from the camera to not be a distraction of what I assume is an ad lib by Bateman
" That's not yours " Hahahahahahahaha

Rip Reed and Saul Goodman must have gone to the same law school
The University Of American Samoa LOL.
great comparison lmao!

I heard Les Grossman did a year there, as well.
