I have 3 Hercules stands. The handle on the height adjustment mechanism is plastic/ rubber and after many years they degraded and failed. I drilled them through and bolted them and still use them, but they are no longer portable.
I have the same problem...contacted customer support....was out of warranty...and was told buy new stand...they will not sell the height adjustment clutch mechanism !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@jeffreyvargo7963 I use the regular style stands mostly and I find the Gator version is very sturdy. I have a dozen of them. Used to be $15 all day long but now they are $20.
I have the same problem general low-quality performance, the tripod legs were very difficult to open after a while, the plastic parts started becoming very gummy and sticky, finally the height adjustment mechanism basically exploded by year 4. I do not recommend the Hercules.
I have several different stands and put the guitar I'm using the most at the time on the Hercules Auto-Grip Full Size Guitar Stand. The others stands work fine for holding guitars that are out of the way and I don't own any with nitro finishes.
I bought two Hercules guitar stands some years ago with the lifetime warranty. The single guitar Hercules is still functional. The 2nd stand was a twin guitar stand the grip handle dissolved. It’s wasn’t in the sun, wasn’t left in the car, garage or stuff like that. I had it in a storage room with other gear. I needed the double, I pulled it out by the gripper and it stuck to my hand. It dissolved and was unusable. I had bought the two on-line and never thought more of it. I contacted Hercules and the reply was no receipty no replacee. Who gets and keeps receipts for guitar stands purchased on line ? I even bought a Hercules mic stand. It WAS the best ever, sturdy, great looking, wouldn’t tip over in a hurricane. I was playing roughly 4 gigs a week, well one night the up and down grip adjustment stopped gripping. Totally worthless, I was lucky there was a mic stand that was house owned. This company took my $$$ but no support in return. They’re aren’t any spare parts available so I could at least try and repair it Im done with this company, it’s too bad I do like the appearance and all but I’m shopping elsewhere
P.S. I just bought a new Rickenbacker 4003 bass and I’m shopping for a good bass stand now. I would’ve had a Hercules stand already ordered or here already. I was a good and returning customer, even my band mates bought the same guitar and mic stands because of my purchases. I guess it must be standard procedure these days to not believe the customers for product failure. You don’t want to believe me about a $50- $60 stand and throw my business away, BYE
The only problem I have experienced with a Herc stand was years ago when the locking yoke for the guitar neck failed. One of the flippers stopped moving into position when triggered by the weight of the headstock. Consequently, I never bought one again. I am a weekend giging musician and I figured it had been damaged somehow while packing up my gear. I have used two Ultimate stands ever since, and have never had a problem with them. However, with these you do have to pull a rubber strip across to lock the neck into the yoke but it does not touch the fretboard. The tripod legs are encased in a felt like material which has lasted fine but I have no idea as to it effecting finish. So far no effects on my Strats after 10 years.
Thats been my main gripe with stands and Telecasters. Most Fender tuners only have the bolt on the shaft going thru the headstock holding the tuner on, so when you put your Tele in the stand - it actually bends your high E tuner upwards because the bottom of the headstock is too thin so it rests on the tuner. It's not like Jackson guitars that have at least 1 screw into the back of the headstock or the 2 that Gibson Kluson style tuners use.
I need a single stand for next to the couch but I already have a multi-stand. The super cheap ones, with no support near the head-stock, aren't going to cut it for me because I have a German Shepherd and he'll knock my precious guitar over in 5 seconds. If you've got pets, stability is a really big deal.
My Musicman Stingray bass and my 3 telecasters won’t hang properly vertically in my Hercules floor stand. It’s not a universally appropriate design. As they are all poly finishes though, and the use of the ‘cheap” stand you showed rests the neck at around the 12th fret suits it suits them perfectly and there are no issues with finish degradation so that’s what I use. I’m £400 to the good, and if stability is an issue, a little care in not walking into them goes a long way. The Hercules base tripod is not larger than that of the cheap ones, so also, no advantage gained. Horses for courses.
great video TK . I fell asleep and watched in the morning with coffee. wasnt the same but still great. ordering stands today thank you for being so thorough. We love ya man
I have the Hercules triple. You would have to knock it over intentionally. Good video Lewis! I also read that the rubber grips on the Snark tuner can also damage a nitro cellulose finish.
Does the Hercules mini electric guitar stand clear the back cavity of a fender strat? I have the spring cover off and some of the mini stands I looked at sit the guitar against the trem springs.
Good stuff…appreciate the info…Nesubscriber here from Texas…🎸🤘 I’m curious though about your studio, which I must say is very impressive looking. Did you redo a room in your home our is it an offsite location. It looks pretty small my friend..but again this old rocker(69) loves it. Great show be safe and as always…keep Rock-n-Roll alive…🤘
Is there any way where we could work out a way for me to buy some stands off of you thru mail-order...I'll never be in Jersey unfortunately.ir I'd stop by and buy a bunch of them I need stands for all my guitars .my stands all got stolen .

My guitars are kept off the floor on wall hangers by String Swing, but I have a couple of Hercules stands in their boxes if I need them.

that is what I use besides a rack and works great. Cheaper stands are way too flimsy and weak.

I learned my lesson with cheap stand I wish I watched this first ..cheers tk 👍👍
You can get microfibre towels in multiple colours. Medium towels are good for wiping down and cleaning.

Yeah, those removable head pads still don’t work for a tele. An afterthought at best.
I appreciate all the work that went into this. Very good!

Thanks for the video. I was looking at that exact case for my first nice guitar. Sorry the shared knowledge came at the expense of one of yours.

Nope it doesn't clear the back cavity of a strat,i have that stand
I found my Tone King T-shirt this morning!! I hadn't seen it in so long, I wondered if I had bought one at all. 🙂
I usually lean my 2grand PRS up against the wall or a dinning room chair.....safe as houses. Who needs a guitar stand 😉
TEFLON Tape is the tape used on pipes, however that material is likely urethane... :)
I have never seen a guitar stand I was completely satisfied with. The next guitar I buy I will just keep leaning in a corner of a room.
As a fan of Randy Rhodes Vs/Flying Vs and pointy guitars, I agree that Hercules is top notch and in my case a necessity.

Heads would roll if one of my guitars was ruined by a case. I wanted to vomit when I saw that ring on the bottom of that fender.

unbelievable! it was 11:55 and i said i will surely be awake for this, next thing it's 2:30 am and missed it again!
No show next week? i will probably be wide awake!
Thanks buddy
Hey tone king, I emailed you about taking some of those cheap stands off of your hands.
Hercules stand , very good, I have this !
I haven't bought a guitar stand in years.. theyr all junk.. I build my own out of scrap wood and steel laying around in my garage
almost forgot, Thanks for getting the V
Prs makes a good one
Foam rubber
Armor flex
Honestly there are far superior finishes today vs nitro lacquer… I know the purist will get triggered ..but why ignore technology??
So enjoy your superior finishes! 👍 unfortunately, the best guitars aren’t finished in them! 🤷🏻♂️
👍
Yep 4min 50sec in and yep bye bye
