I am same age as mr quincy Jones ...I once long time ago at 9years was shoe shine boy in the streets of North Africa...I had violence and dangerous people around me....miraculously I was saved and ended up in the best country in the world, America! Mr Quincy is a very special and gifted man...He survived his dangerous youth environment because he had a special angel that guided him to greatness....He knows music. The whole world is lucky and happy that mr Quincy went back to that room to take another look at that piano.....rest is history, the rest is a rich production of treasure after treasure of music for the world to enjoy...mr. Quincy Jones is a pure genius and his enfluence is everywhere there are creative musicians....You did it all ...thanks mr Quincy jones
It seems that the people that come from the most horrible start in life and tough backgrounds end up becoming a genius at whatever they determine to be in life. Quincy Jones is a musical genius.
Great to encounter another individual who knows about, admires, and holds in as much reverence as I do the "invisible man" named Rod Temperton. The man (may he rest in peace) was a one-man hit-making machine, having written so many of Michael Jackson's greatest hits, as well as hits for almost everybody who was anybody in those days - including George Benson, Michael McDonald, the Brothers Johnson, Donna Summers, and on and on and on! Pure genius! Yet, he always remained obscure and kept under the radar - except to the handful of people who like to delve deeper into what (and who) is behind some of the most iconic cultural creations of the modern world. What's even more incredible is that we're talking about an Englishman who had such a rare mastery of both funk AND melody that he took R&B to heights never before imagined or ever since exceeded. I can never think of Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson together without thinking of Rod Temperton. No question the level of success Jones & Jackson reached in their collaborations could not have happened without Rod Temperton!
He's a legend indeed 👏. I had the great fortune to see him live in concert a few years ago, and I can tell you: He may be old, but I was starstruck as fuck 🤩. It was a jazz festival with Jacob Collier, Dee Dee Bridgewater and George Benson. As soon as Q came on stage, the audience gave him a standing ovation, and I looked up at the stage and thought, "I can't believe it, that's Quincy Jones, man!". The big band played a few tunes from his catalog, and I had a major flashback. When he and the aforementioned acts took their final bows, I walked even closer to the stage and it was like seeing Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, George Lucas and Quentin Tarantino all on one stage. Each of them has at least two Grammys, so it was like the royalty of the music world. What a night.
Quincy Jones...the man with the Midas touch. Anything he put his hands on - whether it was music, TV, movies, magazines, or whatever - turned to gold! He has been one of the greatest contributors to the American cultural identity this country ever produced. There's no one I have ever admired more than the man called "Q"!
One lesson I learnt from Mr. Jones is that when you discuss money, God leaves the room (paraphrased of course). He was right in my opinion. Thank you Sir.
When I think about all the ways in which technology has entered our lives I have to admit that being able to record a living history has to be one of the greatest advancements. This interview is priceless as it captures a storyteller at his best. Some people are just special and maybe that is because they are aware that it is ok not being perfect as long as in your process of caring you continue to strive to do your best. Nice interview, Gian, you're a gentle listener.
It's fascinating listening to Q, in fact I could listen to his stories all day;a living music legend and what marvellous vitality for 81 yrs of age!.Other people would have wilted or perhaps gone down a criminal path given the childhood experiences Q speaks of.Clearly, his fearlessness, tough as nails though personable attitude, has helped contribute to both his longevity and brilliant musical success. :)
Great interview. Full of life lessons. More inspirational than the controversial Vulture interview. Unfortunately, many "youngsters" are unaware of Mr. Jones' long, legendary career, and actual believe that his fame arrived in 1978 via Michael Jackson. I love M.J., but his post-Quincy albums did not have the same quality or success. The audio quality of a Q.Jones product is better than most - even in this era, where the richness of recorded music is stripped away for easier "streaming". Real music was crippled by corporate greed 20 years ago. (Clear Channel and others with their Playlists that overruled local Disc Jockeys.) Thanks, Q for gifting us with your genius. I am fortunate to have grown up during a time when musicianship mattered, and true talent was required.
Such an integral part of Quincy's and Michael's career was a fellow named Rod Temperton. You know, the guy who wrote Thriller and Off the wall. There's no mention of him, working with Donna Summer, a lot of stuff!
I love this man! Period he was my hero from day one. First Leslie was from Cleveland,Ohio. I will never forget meeting her. I have been in show business since I was 13 years old. What he talks about we did also here in Cleveland,Ohio. He speaks much truth. God Bless you man !
Jones was and is a master when it comes to arrangements regarding music, he couldn't learn anything from Michael but he knows regarding music chords and arrangements Michael learned everything from him as he did with Barry Gordy Jackie Wilson James Brown Michael was a genius when it came to putting it all together.
Quincy needs a limitless time to just tell his story. He’s so interesting. He seems like such a cool and nice guy. I’d like love to just sit and listen to him for a day.
The interviewer was missing the points that Mr Jones was making. The interviewer was so disconnected . Mr Jones said, my friend's head fell off and the next question was about Micheal Jackson
Enfantde TheMostHighGOD nah I don't agree, Quincy clearly stated after that incident that he didn't have the money to go see a shrink at the time but by the time he did later on in his life the shrink gave him his money back because he had dealt with the tragedy in his on way. No interviewer would dare to dig further into that when Quincy clearly shut it down...
@@ronyoung9251 It was not a shrink he took "lessons" from. No one takes lessons from a shrink. He later on took [driving] "lessons" and the guys said forget it and game him his money back and said "forget it". :-)
this man is a gift from above he would be welcome among tibeten monks my lesson i learned from this..... there are 12 notes and only two categories of music good music or bad music thank you
The interviewer is horrible. "I need to ask Quincy these 1000 questions". Instead of allowing the interview to be organic he's focus on question after question. Allow Quincy to speak and express his heart while more that was the part of the interview that was good
the interviewer wae very real and to the point dont forget Mr Quincy is in his twilight years but really a true great for me the interview was unique and good!! Mr Quincy liked it you can see it!!
For all those bashing the interviewer....Chill.....he only had 25 min to talk to Q ...ask yourself this ... " What would I ask Quency Jones in a 25 min interview".....this interview was brilliant.. love ya TH-camrs!
zemtronix1 I get that, however he does seem disconnected from the context and conceptual depth of the subject and subject matter...like maybe he would be better at interviewing politicians..ya know?
Weird. Quincy not someone I ever really think about. I definitely know who he is but a few days ago I had a dream about him. Now I see he has a few interviews he released recently🤔
I see a lot critic against the interviewer. Look him up on "Studio Q". He has done interviews with lots of famous people and are usually very good. I agree that this interview was a bit off but don't write him off after just this.
I wonder what Quincy Jones thought of Berry Gordy and if he ever worked with him? and most of all WHY! did Michael Jackson and Prince Never colaborate and do some music? I remember there competing but usually after the competition they usually colaborate. That would have been amazing if they did
people SHOULD stop and listen. He didn't need to learn anything from MJ. Quincy had been in the music biz nearly 40 years, when he met MJ. Great stories, are worth hearing.
You don't have Agree.. But you should try to Read Between The Line... His mind is like a Machine.. When he is on track he will give you Everything Worthy of a Great Guru... How Many Masters of Art & Music Has Released this type of History... We Are All Human w/ Faults. Love Self, Protect Life, Peace.!!! Many are Gone 2 Soon.!!!
He’s the legendary GREEN artist. Jealous of everyone whose better than he is, this includes Micheal Jackson and Elvis Presley. Quincy will always be the bitter jealous old man and Presley & Jackson will always be Kings. Go cry, Jones. 👑
Presley stole his entire act from James Brown! As far as Quincy being jealous of MJ goes... why would he have been? He taught Michael A LOT, which helped Michael to unlock his full potential.
We need someone to do a proper interview of Quincy. We don’t need a Speedy Gonzalez interviewing a legend. He’s just shooting off questions and doesn’t look connected with Quincy. It seems as he’s just trying to get another job done.
Note to interviewers: ask the question and then be quiet and listen. Remember this is an interview not an interrogation.
Thank you
seriously. He wouldn't let the conversation grow. He kept cutting Quincy off
He was a terrible interviewer!!
Fr lol
I: “How did you manage to make that record?”
QJ: “Well I was…”
I: “But what about…”
😂😂😂
Mind is so sharp at his age.
Creating music keeps you sharp :)
“Music is good or it’s bad” - no categories- LOVE IT! Thank you Quincy! Brilliant!

800 SONGS to get the Thriller tracklist! No wonder it goes hard to this day
- I said if I don't have a mother, I'll let music be my mother. And it never let me down. - Wow. Just Wow.
It seems that the people that come from the most horrible start in life and tough backgrounds end up becoming a genius at whatever they determine to be in life. Quincy Jones is a musical genius.
gods people
Why they don't talk about rod temperton when thriller is mention. He was a great songwriter!

Rod was the talent. And unfortunately the fall guy
Rod T was a bad Boy
Wow... I never knew about his mom God bless her soul. God bless Q. A piano saved his life put him on another path.

So true .. So much talent and creativity. I'm fascinated by him and Nile Rodgers..
I could listen to Quincy talk all day!
Pure class. No wonder his daughter is so cool

There is no one else that has more Grammy nominations then quincy jones.from jazz to country & western.june2022.
Quincy dropping gems 👏🏾 and pebbles🙈 🤣

I wish i had a mentor like him in my late teens. I can listen to his gems all day and be inspired by it smh
Quincy as a musician is among the brightest of stars.

he's so smart dropping so many jewels thanks Quincy.
Omg, I wish this was longer. This is a great interview. Phenomenal man he is.
This is an outstanding interview. A thousand thanks to everyone at "q" for producing it.
12/28/2015---USA
The interviewer was garbage tho
Such an integral part of Quincy's and Michael's career was a fellow named Rod Temperton. You know, the guy who wrote Thriller and Off the wall. There's no mention of him, working with Donna Summer, a lot of stuff!
Rock with you
I am amazed at this insightful interview with the amazing Quincy Jones. Thank you!

Q has had an AMAZING journey....I am in awe.
I love this man! Period he was my hero from day one. First Leslie was from Cleveland,Ohio. I will never forget meeting her. I have been in show business since I was 13 years old. What he talks about we did also here in Cleveland,Ohio. He speaks much truth. God Bless you man !
I would love to have him as a mentor he spoke my life and what's going on right now. When you get in the valley you find out who you are. Well said
Pure genius! A true Untouchable
Jones was and is a master when it comes to arrangements regarding music, he couldn't learn anything from Michael but he knows regarding music chords and arrangements Michael learned everything from him as he did with Barry Gordy Jackie Wilson James Brown Michael was a genius when it came to putting it all together.
i almost cried when he said 23:02 "she never called me by my name until i was 57!"...what kind of woman was she??...
Quincy Jones is the most impressive person I have ever met !!!!
Yo interviewer .... LISTEN.. slow down
REAL TALK!!!! That's why he said TWO ears and ONE mouth! smh 🤦🏾♂️
Quincy needs a limitless time to just tell his story. He’s so interesting. He seems like such a cool and nice guy. I’d like love to just sit and listen to him for a day.
Jason Waite yes the interviewer is atrocious!!! I know everybody isn't gifted with musicianship , but he is absolutely obtuse.
Did he say " serious musician?" . I wish a lover of all genres of music would have conducted this interview . All love QJ 🎶🎼🎶🎼🎶🎼💗💞💕💞💗
he said at the beginning that he only has 25 minutes, so obviously he is trying to squeeze in as much as possible
"Thriller" most highest Paid and sold album in the History of music 💯💯💯💯💯👍
Nothing but respect for Quincy
EGO is enormous....I sympathize with the people who lived with these talneted type of people....I hope they will be rewarded justifiably.
over 151,000 on an interview! I believe every word Quincy says and they are worth believing
The interviewer was missing the points that Mr Jones was making. The interviewer was so disconnected . Mr Jones said, my friend's head fell off and the next question was about Micheal Jackson

That happens so often these days. More interested in asking questions than getting answers.

WOW! His path in life was meant to be. What God has planned, no one can alter.
The Legendary Producer...and Mj loved him so much🧡
Music is a about feeling when you hear all the big radio hits in the past all of them are simple notes well combine.
this man is a gift from above
he would be welcome among tibeten monks
my lesson i learned from this.....
there are 12 notes and only two categories of music
good music or bad music
thank you

Memory razor sharp !!!!!!
The interviewer is horrible. "I need to ask Quincy these 1000 questions". Instead of allowing the interview to be organic he's focus on question after question. Allow Quincy to speak and express his heart while more that was the part of the interview that was good
Thank you. He’s awful.
Agreed very annoying
Say what you will about Jian Ghomeshi, but he was the best interviewer the CBC ever had.
the interviewer wae very real and to the point dont forget Mr Quincy is in his twilight years but really a true great for me the interview was unique and good!! Mr Quincy liked it you can see it!!
Love that saying about music and buildings.
I say I loved when Michael and Quincy did we are the world.

I am loving this man so much now. Great advice and food for thought
Weird. Quincy not someone I ever really think about. I definitely know who he is but a few days ago I had a dream about him. Now I see he has a few interviews he released recently🤔

Amazing information interview from a true legend. I learned alot by Just listening. Thanks Q 👍🏽👍🏽
Epic...and truth ful. Educational....surprisingly good
Quincy grew up wanting to be a gangster he just likes music
Any intervirw with quincy is a great interview. But the guy interviewing him is a useless interviewer. He's searching too hard.
Q is da man!! great interview, thank you
Wow his inspiration for music sounds like a seen out of Last Seasons Empire with Luscious...hmm could this be a story implanted on film?
Quincy we are the world is great.
I wanna meet him in.person
Thank you for this wonderful interview. 🙏🏼
Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson did their best work with Quincy Jones.
Albert Einstein used to say a man who is a genius is hard to understand when heard at. Once you have to hear him twice to understand

If you have Netflix, look up the music documentary "Quincy!"
I have wanted to hear all his special solutions that produced his glittering jewels that he manifested.
Great interview Jian....
hahaha his honest, detail adding interruptions, tho. respect.
What a sweet loving man
Quincy redeemed himself. Truth do that.
