This is exactly why I always ask who "us" is in Romans 8:38-39. When you realize that Paul considers everyone a child of God (Us) and is persuaded that nothing can separate us from the agapes tou Theou, there isn't much to fight about anymore.

@@ronjones1414 The Bible,( as are these verses), is written to believers. The Bible also teaches that no matter who it is, we are to love all people. So whether they are children of God or not, we're to love everyone and treat them right. The Bible is pretty clear on this. I mean this is basic Christianity. We don't have to do mental gymnastics with God's word to know He wants us to love everyone with His agape love. God's children are those who have been adopted into the family of God.

It’s kinda crazy how trought centuries the church betrayed Jesus’s basic teachings and denied his actions :
    - they became exlcusif when he was inclusif.
    - They built an institutional system when he didn’t.
    - They looked for power and alied politcal power with religion when he didn’t ruled.
    - They wrote tons of books when didn’t write anything.
    - They made him western when wasn’t. He was a dude from Middle East.
They kept women away from their religious system establishing a misogynistic system when Jesus was close to them. 🤔

The Jesus we can construct Yeshua of Nazara was a mystic and was teaching mysticism. That was their stairway to heaven, but his inner circle was Jewish. While these followers of the way were inclusive of the lower ranks of Jewish society of their day, Jesus of the NT calls a gentile woman a dog, which she challenges him.
The pericope of the sinful woman, as reconstructed by Dennis McDonald has a woman being brought to be stoned, but they relent nor does she repent. The act was not forgiving her, but a critique of the right to judge. This is a major point because I believe that he was anti-Saducee, anti-high priest, and anti-Herodian. In otherwise words he was against the pious authorities.
When we get to the Jacobian movement as inherited by his brother there was a clear line of thought that statements of faith were inadequate that the obedience to the law (Jewish) must be observed and tested as to demonstrate the stamina of their commitment. As stated in the gospel do as they say, not as they do.
So in this regard, all were not equal.
That was before the fall of the temple. After the fall of the Temple exclusive ideas don’t work well when the Jewish population is spiraling. These stringent rules seem to be absent in the secret sayings of Jesus (Tomas). Elaine Pagels has a couple of videos on the topic of ‘divinity’ with respect to the gospels of John and Tomas. She affirms that the author was affirming a doorway to the divine, but that Christian’s are not following the authors intent. These text were elective text for individuals who saw their movement being challenged by the apocalyptic failures of the mid/late second century and they are basically providing another pathway to the kingdom of heaven through mysticism.
With regard to what Dan states. Pretty much correct but with caveats.
Declaring oneself a god may have some immediate power benefit, but if your dynasty cannot keep a hold on things there was often Backlash. Naram Sin, who declared himself a god but who grandson lost to a bunch of barbarians was not nearly as popular in the subsequent literature as Sargon the great. In these cases Sargon was trying to expand the influence of Akkad and Sumer, whereas Naram Sin was trying to contract the authority of various temple polities under his own.
As Israel was throughly polytheistic during the Early Iron Age many of the gods where from Mesopotamia or had indirect connections to Mesopotamian. The system of gods generally had priests, the high priest was essentially the mouth of god, the warrior king the arms. To understand this we have the story of Adapa and the South wind. According to the legend/myth Adapa was a powerful mystic. The high gods saw that he was two powerful and so they wanted him in their council, but Adapa’s god tricked into think they were trying to poison him and was denied. Enki’s lesson to Adapa….you are here to serve. Aspects of the story of Apkallu are found in the book of Jonah.
So the issue here about sons of god is actually a call to power. If city X, say Shuruppak, is attacked, then the sons of An are called to help their brother by defeating the sons of another high god, in this case probably Amurru.
But during the reigns of the last kings of Israel, Judah divided itself from the other tribes and peoples, so there were no other “children of god” to call on. This point was actually made in the Bible essentially saying, those other gods are dead, they did not come forth to help Israel or us (Judea).
As Judea after Yosiah stood alone the Bene Elohim become the zealots who willing to stand up and fight. As history and archaeology showed, during Judeas last days most every city outside of Jerusalem did not stand up and survived. After the return Jerusalem was largely a child state of the Persian and Greek empires until the Maccabean revolt.
So we get to Jesus and his rebel Jews. The Maccabean revolt offered great promise, but after the reign of Salome Alexander the unified Jewish state devolved into infighting until Herod took over and while he was rather supportive of the Jerusalem elite, things did not go well for the people who, often forcibly converted to Judaism were force to live under Herod’s oppression. When Herod dies there were several attempted revolts and again these Jews willing to stand against oppression and corruption were seen as Bene Elohim or mini-Messiah’s. It’s more or less the inspirational rhetoric of rebellion.

      >they became exlcusif when he was inclusif.
Jesus was an apocalyptic preacher who believed that the wicked would be destroyed and the righteous would have eternity in heaven. His vision was inherently exclusive.
      >They built an institutional system when he didn’t.
True. No point in building institutions if the world is going to end soon.
      >They looked for power and alied politcal power with religion when he didn’t ruled.
Jesus was executed for insurrection. He wasn't apolitical. He was unsuccessful at politics.
      >They wrote tons of books when didn’t write anything.
True. No point in writing stuff down if the world is going to end soon.
      >They made him western when wasn’t. He was a dude from Middle East.
True. Their painters got his skin color wrong.
      >They kept women away from their religious system establishing a misogynistic system when Jesus was close to them.
The way the Catholics explain it Jesus only ordained men and those men only ordained other men. I don't know if Jesus meant to create a misogynistic system or not. But that is what he did.

It’s your choice to believe it or not but the most relevant part of Jesus remarks about the Last Judgement when all are separated into one of two categories- sheep or goats - is that the basis for the separation is not what creed you believe, nor what prayer you uttered, but rather it is ‘what did you do?’
Matt 25 v 44-45 is explicit, those condemned will say to the judge, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

Hey Dan, would you be willing to comment on Jeffrey R. Holland's talk at general conference this last Sunday? It felt like he was trying to put qualifiers on who God loves, as well as who and how Latter-Day Saints should love. I don't know if it was intentional, but the whole conference seemed full of messages that said, "Hey you're caring about these sinners too much." As a queer person, it felt like they were telling my LDS family and friends to not be supportive for the sake of obedience to the commandments. I get it if you're still under contract from your former employment not to say anything about church leadership, or you just don't feel comfortable commenting on general conference. I don't think it's unclear. Israel is sometimes called the "children of God" but this is because a nation in the Bible is the territory of a "son of God", in Israel's case that person is Jacob the son of Isaac, the only "son" (nation) not disinherited by God, and his descendants are all Israelites. And if I'm not mistaken, Paul believes that Jesus is simultaneously Jacob's descendant and also God Himself, magically entering his evangelizers and thus conferring some part of his sonship to them, in a new covenant that aims to finalize this disinheritance. So it's just that same idea being invoked once again.

I raised 75k and Kate Elizabeth Becherer is to be thanked. I got my self my dream car 🚗 just last weekend, My journey with her started after my best friend came back from New York and saw me suffering in dept then told me about her and how to change my life through her.Kate Elizabeth Becherer is the kind of person one needs in his or her life! I got a home, a good wife, and a beautiful daughter. Note: this is not a promotion but me trying to make a point that no matter what happens, always have faith and keep living!

That's why Islamic concept makes more sense which states that God neither begets nor is begotten.
The Islamic faith also stressess the importance of our role on earth as "Khalifa". Hence, neither of us are either created in His image or His children

Are all quantum waves “children of The Wave?” The answer to this depends upon whether you accept the Copenhagen interpretation of Quantum Mechanics or the Many-Worlds interpretation of Quantum Mechanics.

Wow, a little triggered huh! Last I checked Act is in the NT. So how is referring to it as a source for what the NT says about children of God a problem? It quotes Paul as saying X about children of God! How is any of this making a comment about Paul from Dan's point of view and not Luke's? How is Dan making any claim about Act's reliability by showing a NT source that has a perspective on children of God? LMAO!
      You seemingly can't pay attention!

To be clear to ALL OF YOU, I do know that the henotheistic cult of Yahweh DID exist. But it did, OVER TIME, grow heavy in its opposition to the worship of other gods.
We all know about King Josiah too. And after the fall of Judah and the start of the Babylonian captivity, a some priests and scribes developed the concept of Yahweh as the sole God of the world.
The Babylonian Talmud references other, "foreign gods" as non-existent entities to whom humans mistakenly ascribe reality and power.
The Second of Maimonides' 13 Principles of faith:
God, the Cause of all, is one. This does not mean one as in one of a pair, nor one like a species (which encompasses many individuals), nor one as in an object that is made up of many elements, nor as a single simple object that is infinitely divisible. Rather, God is a unity, unlike any other possible unity.[
We all know that Jews, Muslims and MORMONS do not like our idea of monotheism.... Aint't that right Dan????????/

“Sons of God originally referred to those who had a special relationship with God - except in the beginning, that did refer to literal children of God with his consort”
No such idea exists in the Bible.

Who is this Dan telling anyone what they should or shouldn't do?
Jesus clearly stated lest a man be born again, that is, born of the Spirit, you can't enter the kingdom.
Only those in Christ will become God's children and be saved.

The kingdom of heaven/God is whith is not something external or in another dimension
Acctually when Jesus was crucified the whole humanity was baptized by his blood and the whole humanity become children of God.
The point is that in greek being a "son" is more and superior that being a "child" because a child is like a baby that can really lisent or follow or obey their parents properly, while a son is more mature and more capable of following and obeying his parents.
Saint Apostle Pavel/Paul said that we must become sons not children
