When it comes to displacement CC, i think there are actually some good examples of it. One of which being Reinhardt's charge. It's a high risk ability that also displaces yourself with a high reward as well. And it's not easy to catch someone with the ability either. Now orisa on the other hand-
YES, perfect example of a great displacement ability. the only thing about rein charge that may be bad is it's hitbox being janky at times, but that can be a result of lag which isnt the abilities fault in the slightest
not easy? i've got so many clips of rein just magneto grabbing people 2 meters on his side and wall slamming them of course when i play rein i become a bumper car and send everyone flying
i would agree if we're talking about OW1 to mid OW2 rein but now he has a metric frick ton of armor so he's rarely punished for bad pins since he DOES NOT DIE
honestly i like that overwatch has quite a few heroes with the ability to cancel CC for their teammates (almost all of Lifeweaver's cooldowns are built around moving teammates and sometimes even enemies around to save them or cancel a CC)
As someone who plays both brig and lucio I gotta say brig whipshot is fair considering she has massive range limitations otherwise and its hard to hit. Lucio boop on the other hand is actually so stupid in its current state and idk why the overwatch devs keep moving so much of lucios value out of his health, self healing and primary fire and into the boop. They have significantly increased its damage, at one point even reducing his primary fires damage to move more damage into the boop... despite the fact that its the easiest part of his kit to land. And to account for the tank passive it boops so damn far despite its short cooldown. I would much rather run winston into brig and be able to approach from a strange angle to dodge the whipshot then dive a lucio that can boop in my general direction. ALthough I dont know why im complaning about lucio boop in a game where roadhog hook and bastions sticky nade and pharas conc exist.
I do think Lucio boop is one of the more fun displacement CC because he's so LOUD when wall riding, so either he's hiding and wasting value (and ringing the "wheres Lucio" spider sense) or he's barreling at you and you have to run away from any edge to make sure he doesn't catch you off guard but maybe that's because I'm lower elo and I don't play vs trickier lucios
a good lucio can be such a massive pain in the ass for certain characters due to his boop and how little time it takes for it to recharge brig's whipshot on the other hand takes a fair amount of time and has a much smaller hitbox so i agree completely
also question are you a game developer or do you have any experience in the role of balancing games or game design and if not should I take everything with a grain of salt?
“Authority Fallacy” Just because someone ‘higher up’ can have an opinion doesn’t mean it’s automatically correct compared to someone ‘lower on the ladder” Arguments and opinions are separate from the person saying them
For wraith's ult, ethereal shift is a somewhat expensive but effective measure to avoid the stun entirely, which works on any character. Additionally, the projectile it shoots is pretty slow, a little above default movement speed. The further away the wraith is when she uses it, the more time you have to get to a position where a stun would hurt less. From the Wraith's perspective, this is a tradeoff between risk (being close to a target that needs stunned) and reward (higher value out of the stun)
I really like when you can still do things while being affected by CC like the jokey's grab from LFD let's you move and resist it's influence, give me more things that make me think on my feet. like take away my gun but let me have my abilities, that alone provides alot of intresting gameplay interactions depending on the character, if i have a dash attack do i try and secure the kill or run away? If the enemy can disable my gun i should save one or two abilities just in case.
i get the frustration with CC (and believe me I get annoyed whenever i get Hog Hooked for example) but i dont really have an issue with it as it's part of the game. When people say CC is annoying games shouldn't have CC it's a bit silly Dying in shooters/mobas is annoying but I don't see anyone saying "they should make a multiplayer game where the characters can't die" Dying/getting stunned/getting debuffed/getting outskilled is part of playing an online competitive game and if you find yourself getting frustrated with that and not having fun then maybe shooters or MOBAs aren't for you
It's a matter of agency and also dying is annoying too. Basically, if you get punished for Trying To Play The Game then it's annoying. But if there's reasonable counter play then it's fine because You Made A Mistake. same goes for dying. There's a huge difference between you being out of sight and actively dodging and hog hooks you anyway (see: hog hook 1.0) and the delayed projectile that's Ana sleep dart, which has a long cooldown. One of them is avoidable and out playable, and one of them is avoidable if you're lucky Death is a similar thing. Death is fine so long as it feels like you could prevent it most of the time whether through simply avoiding it, or it being high risk on the opponents end But if you're fighting a dude that can instantly kill you on sight, while you can't even fight back, there is no agency and therefore this mechanic is not good even though it's in the game, and the developers are keeping it. Still doesn't Feel Good
It also depends on the context In valorant one shots are normalized and in overwatch only 2 characters have explicit one shot so one is fair and the other might not feel fair

Great video! But I’m going to have to disagree on what the worst CC is. I don’t mind displacement, yea it can be very annoying to get booped off the map but there are characters with abilities that can stop that. But getting frozen or suspended on the other hand 😤. It’s just something about me not being able to do anything, awaiting my death while Mei is impaling with an ice sickle. Or even dealing with strand/stasis in destiny. Super annoying no thanks
I feel like displacement is countered by the fact that a lot of characters can use it AND I think more importantly it DOESN'T take you out of the fight. Being slept, frozen, stunned, or one shotted does but that tends to be more rare. It's a more engaging form of CC so it's more fun and satisfying.
That's a great point, the main frustration that I had written in the original script was that it could take you from a great position and force you into a bad one, but had lost the plot a little near the end with the whole screaming bit. But I totally understand where you're coming from.
@@ZombieBoyOW I will say that I am much more afraid of being pulled than pushed. Pulls can take you around a corner into a 1v5 so it's scarier. Unless it's LW cuz then its mostly it's to save you ofc. xD
idk I feel like the sleep dart example isn't that good her projective isn't that hard to hit considering the character projectile hitboxes (look at hanzo he has literally the same hitbox and yet everyone seems to hate playing against him) and like sure they can easily trade it by using their abilities (besides matrix that's not even 5% of her matrix bar) but that leaves them open to dives and hell if they don't use it that leaves them just as open to dives as before you basically have to walk on seashells as long as she has that cooldown and if ur not a dive tank good luck getting close to her without a coordinated push
yes the projectile is very lenient, however I do think that because many of the defensive abilities (sig's suck, Mei ice, moira fade) are much lower cooldowns, meaning that not only does it cost less to use the ability in the sense that ana's cooldown is longer and it removes her only source of self protection, but it also disables her ability to counter a dive herself. good point though, some abilities like suzu or Orisa's javelin spin, are more risky to use, leaving them or their team open to attack. Perchance
sleep is hard to hit if ur not aiming it at the tank because of how slow the projectile is. reason why it might not be that hard is cause a lot of ana players save it until they're close range, but at any other range it's really difficult
@@iSuckAtGamesGG my comment addresses this issue tho… they cannot “just move the other direction” when you’re within a range where you’re going to need to sleep. If you’re trying to sleep people at 20m+ while they’re looking at you and mobile… that’s just dumb.
One of the worst examples of cc i can think of its monarch's energy siphon from titanfall 2. @ZombieBoyOW I believe in the contrary, her ult is honestly extremely mid. It can only hit 1 target unless you invest into maxing it, it has short range, slow projectile (in fact it is so slow that I have, multiple times, just out sped it by going into a zipline), does not enough damage, wraith herself has a kit that is centered around damage and only damage (plus a long CD escape) with no other utility except for ult as a counter balance for an easy to land ult, and you can run far away enough and around a wall so it lasts just long enough to end before she could reach you or the wraith gets barely any benefit from it.
