The reading passage and the lecture are about the turtle excluder devices (TED). A device made to help reduce the amount of turtle’s death by trawls when shrimp fishing. Whereas the author describes some advantages this device has, the speaker does the total opposite.
Firstly, according to the reading this device was created to only save the turtles. The device is made of a mechanical barrier with fishing nets that prevents animals larger than 10 cm from getting caught deep inside. However, the speaker mentions that some turtles are smaller than the average and still get caught leading to the survival of some but not all of them.
Secondly, according to the reading to make sure the TED is being used, a ‘’Shrimp-Turtle Law’’ was passed. This is mandatory and there are specific organizations that monitors the shrimp vessels. However, the speaker mentioned that most of the shrimpers take the TED out once in the ocean to prevent the lost of shrimps (as some of them are tinier) and there is no way to monitor all of them.
Lastly, in the final paragraph it is mentioned that only certified users of TEDs are allowed to import shrimps all over the US and European countries. Hence, these companies have opted to implement this device. However, the speaker states that the majority of these companies have fake documents as it is easier to mock the international business due to each country’s regulation and this makes it harder to recognize the real ones from the fake ones.
To sum up, the author of the lecture and the speaker have different points of views about TED.

The reading passage and the lecture are about turtle excluder device or TED . While the author of the article believe that it has many advantages , the speaker casts doubt on each statement that in the article . He claims that it has many drawbacks and flaws and it is not work as it is supposed to be .
Firstly , the author states that it helps the sea turtels to stay alive since it prevent any kind of animals that bigger than ten centimeter from enter the net and stick inside it . The lecturer , however , disagrees with this view point . He argues that there are many possibilities for small turtles that less than ten centimeters to be caught . Furthermore , some kind of species may catch by this net and get inside also some kind of shrimps who are lucky they can run away from this device .
Secondly , the reading passage states that all the boats and fishermen must install this device . The lecturer , on the other hand , refutes this claim by saying that it is impossible for the government to montier this process because it is kind of international trade .
Finally , the author asserts that the government will make such a tight control for the process of shrimp importing since they will import and buy from the fishermen who installed this device . To contrast , The leecturer contradicts this claim by mentioning that most of the documents that with the fishermen are fake and it is easy to make such a fake document .
To sum up , the author and the lecturer hold conflicting views about TED .
My writing , 277 words , any feedback would be considerable ☺.

I definetely believe that art serves much more purspose than to just entertain. As Susana expresses her thoughts on how art can be powerful tool for a social building, I agree with her completely.
Right of the bat I can say a million things on how art has influenced people’s quality of life than just entertaining, and one of the reason which I can think of is theatrical drama and story telling. Back in old ages we humans as a social beings did not possess any modern technology to communicate with each other, this lead to the art of story telling. For instance when I was a kid my grand mother would recite me few stories on how she used to live her childhood and her experience with life, words are sufficient, but when she stands up and enacts what actually happened using different types of emotions and the way she stresses over few words and commands the dialouges, this was far more realistic and I could experience the moments she has lived through her acting which served a better connection and I could relate to her with my whole heart making the moment we were sharing wholesome.
In conclusion, this is what I have to say about art since it serves a deeper connection with people it interacts, hence, art is much more than entertainment. (this is my second task i took almost 8.5 minutes to write and had time to review, i wrote about 226 words)

Well , for me I think art is everything because i use it as a tool to treat my self . For instance , If i want to express my emotions i take a pencil and a paper and start drawing , really it has been helping me alot . Moreover , some researches suggested that for people who have depression or any kind of emotional disorders they can use music and painting to treat their selves and this prove the powerful effect of art on human behevior and emotions .

My writing: Please, let me know if its acceptable/good.
The reading and the lecture are both about the trawls used in the shrimping industry. Whereas the autor of the reading states that to help reduce accidental deaths among sea turtles, the lecturer suggests that this is not accurate at all. The lecturer casts doubt on the main points made in the reading by providing three main reasons.
First of all, according to the reading, the invention of TED (Turtle Excluder Device) has made a great contribution to help sea turtles, as it prevents any animal larger than 10 centimeters from getting caught Deep inside. However, the lecturer disputes this point. He argues that even though the devices are made to exclude any animal larger than 10 centimeters, there are some other meat size animals, such as smaller turtles that cannot be helped by this device. Furthermore, she mentions that even some lucky shrimp can be caught by TED and get outside the trawls.
Secondly, the reading states that there is a law called the “Shrimp Turtle Law” that enables organizations to control the proper use and maintain of TED. Nevertheless, the lecturer states that many boat owners do not use this device while they are fishing, as they leverage the lack of control in zones that are not likely to be monitored.

Finally, the reading passage claims that America now tightly controls the import cf shrimp. In addition, it states that all shrimp products must come from certified users of TEDs. On the other hand, the lecturer believes that many boat owners fake their documents to fool the authorities. Moreover, he contends that many boat owners dont missout the chance to use these fake documents due to each document changes in every country.
Although the reading and the lecture are both about the same topic, the tree main points in the reading are effectively challenged by the lecturer.

From my perspective, in the intricate tapestry of human experience, art serves a profound purpose beyond mere entertainment. I wholeheartedly concur with Susana's insightful perspective, emphasizing art as a powerful emotional and inspirational tool. For instance, during times of anxiety or depression, country music of Johnny Cash has acted as a valuable emotional outlet, lessening my psychological load and rejuvenating my spirits; similarly, immersing myself in the beauty of nature through oil paintings offers solace and restoration, allowing me to find peace by savoring the serene depictions. Both forms of art assist in calming my nerves and guiding me through intertwined predicaments. Alex's standpoint, while highlighting the accessibility of art to society, failed to realize the fact that appreciation is also a part of deeper purpose for citizens. The same artworks would evoke varied responses from different people based on their personal unique experiences and contexts. These diverse emotional and experiential connections transcend the realm of ordinary entertainment, enriching our lives with depth and meaning.

Answer example- Task 1 - Integrated Writing
The article introduces the topic of the use of Turtle Excluder Devices in the Shrimping Industry.
The writer says there are many benefits to use this device in order to maintain alive and free the turtles that introduces into the shrimp boat nets.
The lecturer disagrees. She says that although it´s a great idea, it´s far from perfect.
First, the author says that TED reduce the number of death turtles by shrimp boats nets allowing animals larger than 10 cm to scape.
The professor believes that there are flaws in the author´s position. She contends that there are smaller or middle-sized turtles that can ultimatelly be captured by the nets.
According to the writer, there are a “Shrimp-Turtle Law” that allows to the application of TEDs in all the shrimp boats and guarentee their use by fishers.
The speaker, on other hand, Points out that in order to prevent the loss of profits because of shrimps that can also scape from the nets through the TEDs, fishers are able to uninstall the TED device when they are over the sea and this may not be controlled by any TED organization.
Also, the reading passage notes how the imports of shrimp products need to be TED certified to be allowed to sell in USA and Europe, and this can keep the fisherman using this device so they can be apt to sell their products.
The professor rebuts this argument. He says that the shrimp business can use fake documents thus international regulation can´t prevent this documentation to pass and allow the comertialization of shrimp although TEDs haven´t been used in the shrimp boats.
As you can see, the author and the lecturer hold very different views on Turtle Excluder Devices relevance in the Shrimping Industry.
Answer example- Task 2 - Academic Discussion
In my opinion art as a kind of expressión should be prioritized over as an entertainment tool. My personal belief is that art has been a way to express important emotions for many sensitive and high spirits over human civilization history. For example, differents cultures have tell their histories using art as an expressión.
I understand Alex concern over the entertainment importance in our actual society that have many stressful factors caused by economical and political situations, but i believe he misses another critical point. Art is a tool to express emotions, thoughts and experiences that words can´t in such a deepest way.
Art is a way to express humanity which is why i believe is crucial to see it as a powerfull communication tool of trascendental milestones through Civilization history by elevated spirits.

I believe that chosing one side over the other would be akin to feigning arrogance. Art does not serve a singular purpose but instead contains a multifaced function. Therefore, there is truth in both the statement regarding its sole purpose is for entertainment and the statement that is has deeper purposes. On one hand, as Alex remarked, Art for many, serves as an outlet to escape from their stressfilled lives. On the other hand, as Susana concured art is often used as medium for societal commentary and can be used to not only appeal to a wide audience but have stronger theological impacts.
    any feedback would be appreciated.

After watching all your videos on the toefl i now see that this was a terrible response. Let me rewrite it.
I believe that taking a definitive stance on the purpose of art would be presumptuous. Art, like many other subjects, serves multiple functions. Interpretation of art largely depends on the individual audience. On one hand, art often captivates with its beauty and serves as an aesthetic escape from the mundane, as Alex noted. However, as Susana pointed out, it also serves as a powerful medium for social commentary, with profound theological implications. Thus, both viewpoints hold merit: art entertains and enlightens simultaneously.

    IS THIS OK?
The article and the lecturer are both about the improvement of the Turtle Exclurer Device (TED) in shrimping industry. This device is installed in shrimping trawls with the purpose of preventing turtle deaths. Whilst the author of the article explains how TED works, the lecturer casts some doubts about its efficiency. She is of the opinion that improving TED is a great idea but it has some faults.
First of all, the article mentions that this tool consists on adding a mechanical barrier which helps to prevent turtles and other animals death. Furthermore, it is mention that animals which are ten centimeters longer do not get caught. Despite of this, the lecturer claims that although the metal barrier is useful, there are other turtle spices which are smaller and they get caught. Moreover, she says that not only smaller turtles but many other small species get damaged despite the use of this tool.
Secondly, the author of the reading passage mentions the shrimp turtle law, which settles the obligation for all trawling shrimping boats to have a TED. Moreover, he says that many organizations keep regarding this. However, the lecturer says that at the time of shrimping many companies remove the device and there is no way to notice about it. She suggests that this law does not have a correct enforcement.
Finally, the article highlights the roll of the United States of America in controlling the quality of shrimp importation. The author mentions the improvement of TED certification, which menans that if shrimp company doesn´t have this certification, it isn’t allowed to sell its product in the US. However the lecturer casts doubt on this saying that in many cases the certification is faked. Apart from this, she claims that depending on the country the certification requirements changes.
    -------------------------
The role of art in society is a very controversial topic. Whilst some people believe that art is just a waste of time some other emphasize on the social benefits it brings. I understand Alex point about art as a way to relax, but in my opinion art is much more that entertainment. I strongly believe that art can be used as a tool for saving people who are in a situation of extreme vulnerability. In fact, many studies have shown cases of drug addicts who succeed on dealing with this situation with art. So, to sum up I am completely convinced that art has got an important purpose in society.

From my perspective, the art has a deep meaning to humanity, it could show the whole perspective of people’s emotions, than just entertainment. Susana holds the similar opinion, specially mentioning that music could help us to analyze our emotions and inspire to take some risks . I would also add that art could show the real emotions of author. It could inspire and calm down me.
Alex raised a relevant point that states that art it is a way of breaking from stress.he mentioned that people without education also enjoy the art.

    My answers:
    Q1:
The author in the reading passage starts by describing the disadvantages of the usage of trawls in the shrimping industry. He specifically talks about the deaths of sea turtles that get caught in the trawls. He also introduced the "Turtle Exculder Device (TED)", a device that helps reduce the accidental deaths of big number of sea turtles. The speaker completely disagrees with the author regarding the advantages presented by the use of TED. The details for the same are described in the following paragraphs.
Firstly, the author said that the TED mechanism adds a mechanical barrier in the middle of the nets to prevent animals larger than 10 centimeters for not getting caught in the nets. So, the author says that this would help turtles from not getting caught in the nets. The speaker refutes this point by stating that still large number of smaller and mid-sized turtles were getting caught in these nets.
Secondly, the author mentions the "Shrimp-Turtle law" which states that all the shrimping boats must have the TEDs attached and there will be some specific organizations monitoring if the TEDs are installed or not. The speaker mentions that this law isn't properly followed by the boat owners as they see that some good shrimps also get caught with TEDs. He further says that when the boats operate in the middle of the ocean where the owners remove the TEDs for catching the shrimp without notice from the monitoring organizations.
Finally, the author talks about importing shrimp products only from certified TEDs. The speaker points out that most fishermen end up getting fake certificates for TEDs to sell their shrimps. He further goes on to say that since most of the boats operate on international waters it would be very difficult to identify whether the certificates are fake or not.
To sum up, both the author and speaker have very distinct opinions on the advantages of TED. They will have a hard time coming to a common ground.
    Q2 first attempt:
I strongly believe that art has very deeper purpose of expressing emotions and experiences rather than just being an entertainment. Lots of people can't express their emotions directly to the outside world due to lots of reasons. Art provides a great way for them to share their feelings towards the larger world. Painting is one such great art form. Many people paint imagining their past experiences and they also use vivid colors to strongly present the core concept of the drawing. So, just looking at the paintings a deep story is told that spans across various aspects of society. So, for these reasons, I think art has much more to do with emotions than pure entertainment.

  • @san_0000
    @san_0000 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

The authors main argument is that shrimping industry majorly uses trawls to catch shrimp, with the help of huge nets people are able to catch anything and everything that comes in the way of these nets. So, these nets cause a crtical problem which is to to harm other animals which usually get caught in these nets, furthermore they experience suffocation which may lead to death. Hence TED’s were invented to solve this major issue, however the speaker opposes the idea of using TED’s.
The author states that TED’s are designed to help sea turtles and other animals, if get caught in the net the mechanism will automatically releases the sea turtle if their size is greater than ten centimeters. Even though this is a better solution the speaker seems to be skeptical about the usage of TED. Mainly due to the fact that the animals larger than ten centimeters seem to escape from the nets there are turtles which are smaller in size which gets caught, she also states that suppose there is a shrimp larger than ten centimeters that shrimp will definetly escape so this system seems to be inefficient as per speakers point of view.
The author emphasizes that there are laws been reformed which the countries need to would follow in order to sell shrimp legally. Moreover, the speaker criticizes that even though there are strict rules formed, fishermen do not seem to care about these laws and some how manage to get a fake certificate, since there are several countries involved very few may know which certificate is actually legit.
Hence, in conclusion even though TED’s are good mechanicsm which can be used to control the amount of harm produced to other beings, the speaker thinks that they are far from being perfect. (so this is what i exactly wrote in 21 minutes around 298 words please review my writing)

In my opinion, art is not only for entertainment but has a deeper purpose in expressing human emotions. My personal belief is that entertainment can be used to convey various ideologies or messages that have true meaning in it. For example, during World War 2, artists made drawings that represented the conflict between countries and exposed the true nature of relationships, this therefore made the audience understand the ongoing situation as there was a purpose in the piece. I understand Alex's concern over art's connection to entertainment, but I believe he misses a critical point in his statement that as a form of entertainment, some people paint when stressed out, as this is also a way of delivering emotions and contradicts his point. When you delve deep enough into a piece of art, there must be a form of goal in the artist which is why I strongly believe it is not only for entertainment.

hello Josh, thank you for great effort:) could you please evaluate this essay.. writing task 1: The reading and the lecture are both about Turtle Excluder Device (TED). While the reading represents three possible reasons to explain how (TED) reduces the number of turtle deaths, the professor believes that none of them completely accurate and they need improvements.
First, according the reading, the TED mechanism can be helpful for turtles by preventing the bigger animal form getting caught deep inside. However, the speaker states that this mechanism is not accurate in selecting the animals that passing through it, he mentions two kind of marine animals with some small and middle sized shrimps in the listening can still go deep inside.
Second, the passage notes that there are specific organizations are responsible for making sure that fishermen use the Turtle Excluder Device. However, the speaker explains that some fishermen did not use the Turtle Excluder Device due to financial aspects and some of them removed it once the ship sail to different places which makes it very challenging for the organizations to monitor.
Finally, the article claims that the source of shrimp products must be from only certified users of TED. In contrast, the lecturer argues that it was very easy to fack a certification while sailing internationally since every region has its rules and regulations making it hard to follow and control.

The article and the lecturer both deal with Turtle Excluder Devices that are specifically designed to reduce the number of sea turtle deaths per year. Whilst the author thinks that the TEDs have a positive impact, the lecturer opposes the author’s claims. In his opinion, these reasons do not hold water.
Firstly, the author claims that the TEDs consist of a metal barrier in between the fishing nets that prevents any animal larger than 10 centimetres to pass and get caught deep inside. Furthermore, it is stated in the article that once the animal hits the metal barrier, it tilts downwards and gives it space to exit while the smaller shrimps pass through and get caught. In contrast, the lecturer argues that in many cases even the small and mid-sized turtles get caught along with the shrimp. Additionally, he mentions that there are many lucky shrimps that escape getting trapped along with the larger animals which in turn causes both shrimp and profit loss to the fishermen.
Secondly, the author mentions that a Shrimp-Turtle Law was passed to make sure that the fishermen used the TEDs. The law made it compulsory for all trawling shrimping boats to have a TED installed. On top of that, he adds that there are also various organizations keeping track and making sure that all vessels followed the law. However, the lecturer calls this argument into question by saying that many of the fisherman removed the TEDs from their vessels when it was time to catch the shrimps. Further, he remarks that it was not possible for organizations to monitor ships so far from the shore.
Finally, the writer asserts that America does not trade with any company, fishermen or country that does not abide by the Shrimp-Turtle Law. As opposed to the author, the lecturer holds that nowdays the documents that state an organizations compliance with the law are fake. He highlights that the documentation changes with country and thus the certification cannot be proved as legit or fake.
As you can see, the author and the lecturer hold very different opinions.
It would be great if someone could review this for me and tell me where to improve!

The author in the reading passage is impressed by the innovation of new technology which helps in preventing the sea turtle to get caught in the trawls used for catching the shrimps. However the speaker in the audio casts a doubt on the reading passage and states that
firstly this TED technology does not allow sea animals which are smaller than 10 centimeters to pass through it so it means that the turtles for instance leatherback turtles which are less than 10 centimiters in length have to remain in trawls which accidently lead to their death.
secondly , the speaker stated that sometimes shrimps cuold also pass through it due to their size
finally ,the speaker stated that USA and someother european countries imposed a ban on those fishermen to sell their products in thier countries who are not following the laws of TED and are not verified seller and allowing only those fisherman who acquires authentic TED rules certificare as there are many sellers who fabricate TED verification certificate and there are handful of countries who possess the technology to detect real or false documents.

The writer introduce the shrimping business and the greatest devices turtle excluder device TED. The author states that TED helps to decrease the death of turtles. In contrast, the lectures presents some arguments that show weakness of TED.
First, the writer claims that mechanical barrier specifically prevents the caught of any animal larger than ten centimeters. However, the lectruter states opposite. She explains that small and medium sized turtles still caught in TED.
Second, the writer claims that Shrimp-Turtle Law allowing all boats to install TED. Nevertheless the lecturer explains that TED is hard to monitor. That is why most of boats not using it.
Third, the reading passages states that USA strongly monitor the import of shrimps and requires special certification. Even so the lecturer states that documents could be fake ,moreover, it is practically impossible to recognize the fake and the real certificates.

First of all, the author of the passage starts by saying how turtles and other animals are caught in the process of catching shrimps. The shrimps are usually caught uses trawls that are dragged behind the boats to catch shrimp. While catching these shrimps some other water animals like turtles are often caught and later die due to suffocation.
According to the passage 2, The government has introduced some mechanism called as the TED. The TED mechanism consists of a metal barrier in the middle of the fishing net that prevents any animal larger than 10 centimeters from getting caught deep inside. However, the speaker in the lecture casts a doubt and he goes on by mentioning that Turtle Excluder Device only allow turtles larger than 10cm to escape and the turtles less than 10cm that is the medium sized or small sized turtles are often caught deep in the trawl.
Now the 3rd passage states that the shrimp turtle law was passed in order to make sure that the fisherman use the Turtle Excluder Device. The TED law states that “Every fisherman must have a Turtle Excluder Device installed” and there are some special organizations that monitor the same. However, the lecture casts a doubt by saying that most of the fisherman after reaching the ocean, they remove the Turtle Excluder Device in order to catch the shrimps because some shrimps accidentally touch the metal barrier of Turtle Excluder Device and easily escape since there is no one to monitor if the fisherman is actually using the Turtle Excluder Device as it is nearly impossible to look from the shore. And the workers from the organization of Turtle Excluder Device cannot go with every fisherman to look if they are using the device or not.
Finally, author in the last passage states that America controls the import of shrimps and the shrimps must come from the TED certified fishermen. And the fishermen who do not comply with this rule are not allowed to sell shrimps in US. However, the lecture points out that since the fishermen are from different countries most of the fishermen submit fake documents to prove that they are certified TED user to sell shrimps in US. Since the US government cannot actually verify if the fisherman has a forged or real document.
my response, 387 words in total. If anyone of u have a recommendation for me, please do not hesitate to reply.
