Pile #3. I never really comment on these videos but something you said goes a long with one of my philosophies and it’s about the giving without expecting something in return.
A lot of us try to follow the golden rule which is treat others the way you want to be treated. And that’s a perfectly reasonable philosophy to follow. The only problem with this putting yourself in other peoples shoes assumes self interest as the starting point. But the Mengzian extension involves viewing the love and reverence you may have for your family and spreading it more widely to other, like those that are not.
Basically it’s “Care about me not because you can imagine what you would selfishly want if you were me.
Care about me because you see how I am not really so different from others you already love.” Giving not because you should or have to do because that’s what you’d want, but because it’s the right thing to do.
