I LOVE music like Knocked Loose but Turnstile I just got into the last few days and I can’t get enough of them. They’re like Knocked Loose’s equally as good but way more optimistic twin brother lol. Usually I don’t like their kind of hardcore but something about them just rips. Two amazing bands.
Knocked Loose are great all around. Whole band sounds tight AF. But I think they really demonstrate how important it is to have a vocalist with a different sound. These guys absolutely cut through the noise in the scene, and I think a huge part of that is Garris’ higher pitched voice. Like Fall Out Boy’s meteoric rise in their genre. All the other vocalists sound similar at best, then Stump comes around and his voice and delivery was so distinct that they stood out massively from their peers. I’m sure we all know that feeling when you’re grinding through Spotify or whatever looking for a new band, and 30 minutes will go by and you’ll wonder if you’re actually listening to a new artist or just played another song from the last one. Or you’ll end up listening to the same band twice without realising because they all, but most notably the vocalist sounds the fucking same as the last guy. The low and slow growls are tired AF. And a sure fire way to blend into the crowd.
True, his high pitched screams are far more intense. I also like that he doesn't do any clean singing, I'm to tired of those clean choruses in modern metal/hardcore
No matter how many times I've listened to this band, the vocalist is what ruins it for me. He is terrible and sounds annoying. I have no idea how people think he's good or its good because its "a different sound" as if thats a good thing lol.
