- Testing a telescopic tree pruner and saw. This is the Wesmart / Eco Garden JP95-2234 ratchet action 2-pulley tree pruner and Saw.
After using it for a few hours, it's working better than I expected it to... so far I'm happy with the way it is working, the saw blade is very sharp and cuts easily. I was told that this blade is a Japanese saw blade, the same as on a silky saw. The pruner also works well for most limbs up to 25mm diameter (1 inch).
I purchased this tool from All Cut Power Products in Port Elizabeth.

I didn't mention it during the video but when cutting above your head, be CAREFUL of falling branches and wood chips / sawdust falling into our eyes (when cutting with the saw). It's best to wear a pair of safety glasses and maybe some gloves.
Also a hard hat. Plus you should cut at the nearest joint to not leave a stub which is also bad for the tree
@@AbnerTaylor-s6e Hard hat is also a good idea when working above your head... haha. Thanks for the cutting info.
I was given one of those a couple of years back, different brand but exactly the same design, and probably same quality. I haven't got around to using it, but it is time to do some pruning, and you showing exactly how to use it and the possible problems and how to deal with them....well, you're a pioneer. Thanks for an informative video.
Hi Andrew, thanks very much. Let us know how your pruning goes.
THANKSGORCA USEFUL EVALUATION, as you fully demonstrated the patience and true effort to cut those branches, thus giving us a good picture of the difficulty of using this tool. Best wishes from Mexico!
Thanks very much. Please feel free to share the video with anybody you think may find it useful. Thanks for the comment.
Une façon ingénieuse d'affûter une scie à main aussi tranchante qu'un rasoir !

Have just finished resharpening the saw-blade of my nephews prune-stick. 60 teeth, 120 bevels to sharpen. Hoping i wasn't wasting my time on a gimmic thingy...
His is a "Parkside" pruner with a 'Swiss' made prune blade and a 'Germany' made saw-blade. The German company seems like a re-packaging/re-shipping company for Lidl (a budget groceries chain). Quality is not the main concern. Correctness of information is also not a priority as the aluminium pole bears a sticker that says "10m" with a picture suggesting this 3 meter extended pole has a reach of 10 meter (10 feet, yes, but not 10 meter).
It works like you showed it in this video and has the same problems/shortcomings. However, instead of a twist-mechanism to secure the pole-extension, this one has two spring-loaded grips, that allow the rod to be extended when you squeeze the grips. This leaves a bit of play between the two sections of the pole and requires you to take care when first starting a cut (aluminium pole is not as bendy as your fibre-glass pole).
This blade does have a stop at the end to prevent you from pulling the blade too far and out of the cut.
In your video at around the minute mark, you show the blade. It has no quality or manufacturers info/logo on it. A Japanese quality product without a makers-mark usually is a chinese knock-off that pretends to be Japanese....
Also, at 0:59 you show that the teeth of the blade are not bend outwards (to make the cut wider and prevent the blade from sticking in the cut). The blade I sharpened does have the teeth bend out a little. Should work better on flexible branches where the friction between blade and wood would cause more sway in the branch.
These things are marketed as an impulse-buy more than being a useful lasting product....
