I loved and learned from this video. I use imitation gold leaf in my work as a painter but, when it is time for "serious" Art, I must be real gold leaf. The most important thing I have learned about gold leaf - if you want to learn about gilding as Art, not as a hobby, listen to what an Italian will teach you. Massimiliano Gurrieri, you are a genuine Maestro.
Do you seal or clear coat it with anything? I made a brass sculpture and used 23 K leaf, I could still scratch the leaf of with my fingurenail so I clear coated it like the rest of the sculpture. I tried to burnish it with the paper but it rubbed away.
It is quite difficult to protect gold on brass. I did it a couple of times using the kind of varnish used to protect the bottom of the boats. We call it "copale marina". It's plenty of brands out there. You need to do deep work to find out the best product, I mean the one which won't ruin your work. Good luck my friend

Wow you made it look easy. Superb technique Sir! Recently I have project that force me to learn the gilding technique, at first i thought how hard it could be? Boy was I wrong. Seeing you gilded like that, made me want to learn more about this technique. What is the purpose pillow like that you lay the leaf ? Is it must have tools for gilding? Is it special made or anyone can buy in a shop ? Thanx btw, keep up the superb work!
Here in Italy teh pillow is a special pillow made for gilding. Frankly I think you will be able to make yours by yourself. Just keep it enough Hard. The pillow doesn't have to be soft.
Use a wood chopping board. The 'pillow' is just a wooden board covered with thin suede, so that the suede grips the leaf, and the wood board is hard enough to allow a clean cut. If you pad it, it will not be hard. If you use only the board, it will not grip the leaf which could fly away or slide under knife. Common sense.
Recharge.... in English... i would say "reload with static electricity" Thats what it seems to be to me, maybe this helps, maybe not, either way, this was an amazing video

This is the best instruction for applying gold leaf
Thank you sm, i appreciate it so much! :)
Molto Grazie, Signor! The frame is beautiful, and so is the man! Love your voice.
Thank you very much. You are very kind.
Very interesting to see how the knife is magnetic. The second part shows the procedure in a better way thanks a lot.
The knife isn't magnetic. Even if it was the gold wouldn't be attracted to it as only iron,or alloys containing iron are attracted to a magnetic force
Hello sir what did you use for glue for the gold leaves
Hi. Great work! I am wondering why my gold leafed surfaces have deep thin lines? How can I make it smooth?
Wonderful work! Thank you for sharing! Also, you were right to use recharge , as it is totally used in English, and it means the exact same thing
Thank you very much for helping. I struggle all the time with English. Hopefully things are going better in the near future.

How to decharge the knife?
The gold foil sticks to it during cutting!
Perhaps using plastic knife or wooden knife ...
What is the orange coating on the frame? How is the gold leaf sticking?
probably oil based paint the orange or reddish brown color will make the gold look richer
What does that flat brush called?
I don't know the name in English. I call it just as you did

@@nowframes do you ever clear coat the gilding? What if it was a sculpture? I posted another question.
Oof...😣
Imagine inhaling one of those small pieces floating in the air.😢
This must take hours and hours.
Yes it is always a long way to finish the frame!!...
indeed.
A bit of bad photography but an excellent lesson
