If you look at S&W’s catalog you’ll see many different versions, all based on the 5-shot j-frame platform. So that means they’re selling a bunch of them, which also means lots of people are buying and probably carrying them. Me, I carry a 642 most of the time. Never mind the +P, though. I prefer the standard velocity 110-grain Critical Defense round by Hornady.
@@GSquaredTactical I absolutely love it like I said I'm a bigger guy and I can actually carry in the front side and back comfortably with no bulge because of it its sturdy friction free and my fat ass can put it on and take it off with ease definitely worth the money and they have a life time warranty

In one case, the other officer had rushed to back me up after handling an arrestee and had left his sidearm secured at the lockup. In the second case, I was conducting a felony stop across from a house at which an off-duty officer from my department happened to be visiting (he was taking his girlfriend's trash out.) My no lock 442 has been a great back up gun, coat pocket gun, and snake shot gun for about 10 years now. I prefer that one actually but because of weight and carrying it on my ankle the 642 I have carried more. I have a pocket holster for it although I rarely carry it that way. Mine is accurate. For the roles I used it in it is hard to beat. The air weights in my opinion are to be carried a lot and shot a little, especially with plus p ammo.

I have a model 643 and love that stub hammer. Also a trigger job done on it. Man I’ll tell you it’s fantastic. I also got a 100 bucks back from smith and Wesson on a rebate. Then I took out for a credit card from Sportsman and got another 100 dollars off. Making my gun 329 Dollars.
I know people that have the S&W 642 38 spl.in stainless steel after 4 months shooting and carrying and cleaning it on the frame started to peel off The Finnish better off with the 442 in black finish much more better 😮
If you prefer an exposed hammer, then just get the model 637, it's the exact same gun but has the exposed hammer. The Ruger LCR had a shrouded hammer when it first came out in 2008 but customers wanted the option of an exposed hammer so they came out with the LCRX. Both are great snub nose revolvers.

My wife has a 642 it's her edc has about 100 rounds through it she loves says it shoots really good I never shot it yet told me it does have some recoil and is manageable and she is about 5 foot tall a small woman told her I would like to shoot it sometime soon

Wow - if a 5ft tall woman can handle it then it can't be too bad! I have a Ruger LCRx and it's also very snappy - especially with +Ps... I think this is true of all compact, extremely lightweight revolvers though.
The Airweight is great but you definitely need to train with it. The double action tigger can make the gun move a lot in your hand and training is needed so that your shots don’t go low left of the target. With 5 shots, making each shot count is paramount. I suggest training 5 shots in 5 seconds. Any less time than that and your chances of missing the target increase too much. Any more time than 5 seconds and you put yourself at a disadvantage in terms of shots down range. Just my 2 cents.
It`s a self defense gun and by the time you put your hand on the gun your threat is gonna be on you, attacks come fast and are violent, theres a video on YT showing at 10 ft a human can cover that distance in less than 2 seconds. you gonna get 2 off if you lucky.

" some chance of a snag"? When it is a tool you chose to possibly save your life you eliminate anything on that tool that is not needed. It is not a target shooting pistol, the sights are useless, you want your CC gun to fire as soon as you get that finger, any finger, into your attacker who`s probably already on you punching.
