    • @Gochsener
      @Gochsener 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      its a family minivan. RWD would be dumb, costs lots of money, weights a hole lot and uses up much space (transmission tunnel & engine not mounted transversially)
      I also think of BMW as a manufacturer of sporty cars, so building these 2 series tourers seema wrong to me, but they do it and they do it o.k.

    BMW should've made the new X1 F48 first, then release the Active and Gran Tourer. Because after seeing such an improvement on styling, quality, and overall appeal in the X1, people would've accept it being FWD, and then, they would've trash talked the 2 series Active and Gran Tourer a bit less.

    for us to enjoy our stick shift, 50-50 balanced, RWD sedans/coupes/wagons BMW has to produce this. It shares its platform with existing mini's and is cheaper to produce. If we dont want bmw to face the fate of saab or the british automakers, they must adapt and evolve to the market; just like they're doing.

  • @pedroguimaraes2042
    @pedroguimaraes2042 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Sarah, i'm a great fan of yours. I think u shouldn't americanize your name, was quite funny to hear u saying your name properlly; and hey, you are german so your name sounds german, there is absolutly no shame in it...You are the most entertaining reviewer on youtube and also quite pleasing to the eyes :-p. Now speaking about the car; I really hate the looks of this car, really rubbish looking even surpassing the bad looks of the BMW's electric powered microcar the I3. The people who buy this car, buy only for the badge because this car is in no way better than the competition (premium and not premium). The cheapest in this segment is the Kia Carens, and guess what, is way better looking inside and out, has better materials, has more space, has more standard equipment and has 7 year waranty.

    Relax BMW purists, the brand wants a bigger share of the market and why not expand to fwd? You can still buy any M series if you want fast and rwd. There are also performance plenty performance packages for all the rest rwd cars.
    And btw its a family car why the hell rwd is important;

    how do you manage to get only 150 hp from a turbo 2L 4 cylinder , also fwd! no what has bmw been doing , looking at non RWD porn?!?!?

    • @dylanmccallum3371
      @dylanmccallum3371 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cosimo Conran 150 hp and 243ft/lbs is pretty nice for a 2l turbo diesel. It also gets 53mpg combined. BMW is making a car for the masses with this one. Not everyone is looking for a 400hp rwd sedan.

    • @AadrianB09
      @AadrianB09 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cosimo Conran Regarding the HP: It's the 218 model. The 220d has the same 2L cylinder capacity but more hp (170 if I'm not mistaking). Still, since this is far from a sports car less power means less trips at the gas station.

      FWD= understeer, RWD= oversteer. Looking forward to see what kind of magic BMW is playing.

    • @friederich66
      @friederich66 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +NISMO N ATTACK 東瀛戰神 understeering is easier to handle and therefore safer. if you take the curve too fast: release the gas pedal and the rear wil swing around just enough to get you out safe.
      b..t.w.: over- and understeering situations show that you are a reckless idiot because you should never get into a situation when this happens. if it happens though, you misunderstood what (responsible) driving means

    • @pascalmpower7944
      @pascalmpower7944 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Billi Backer Yes, under steering is much easier, when you lose your front traction, all you have to do is to release energy on your front tire, which is release throttle (if FWD) and release your brake, or apply little brake if the under steer is between mild and moderate. Does that mean safer? I won't say it is safer, it just handle in a different way. Is it safer? No, but easier coz under steer can end up crashing by lack of steering response. May also ends up locking if you still applying too much braking. Is over steer more dangerous? No. It's as dangerous as under steer but handles in a different way and require more skills. Over steer require sense of steering and throttle. Means your hand and leg have to perform dynamically in order to balance out the traction ratio between all 4 wheels. So which is more controllable? Over steer. Why? If a car when into an under steer, you can do nothing but wait for the traction. If certain amount of traction doesn't applied, you crash. If RWD cars like BMW get into an under steer, all you have to do is use the throttle to break some traction for balance the traction ratio. So when over steer have much more manoeuvrability and BMW is the most balanced car when you're in an over steer, it just proves BMW is a saver car to drive if you know how counter steer. In other word, RWD is controllable even when you loses control.

    • @pascalmpower7944
      @pascalmpower7944 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Billi Backer and if you think people who under steer and over steer means they are idiot, it proves you're narrow minded and doesn't care about engineering and technology.

    • @friederich66
      @friederich66 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NISMO N ATTACK 東瀛戰神 i think people who drive so fast that they under- or oversteer in normal traffic are idiots who shouldn´t be allowed to drive on public streets. over- and understeering are car reactions near the limit.
      this has nothing to do with engineering. and technology.
      i have a car to drive safely and comfortable from point A to point B. i don´t need a car to express my personality or driving skills. i don´t need a car to show how much money i have.
      a car is a useful machine, nothing more.
      if you think your car must have RWD it is an opinion it is not mine.
      if you think you must drive on the limit it is bestsomeone took away your driving license because you are not fit to move a car in a responsible way

    I don't care that it's FWD. BMW is a car that costs so damn much because of the name. What I do care about is that this car is a cheap FWD economy shoebox, and that's not what a BMW is. Being a BMW just makes it overpriced. You'd be better off buying a Focus or a Golf.

    • @friederich66
      @friederich66 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +demarc i have a golf(plus), a good car, but they don´t produce it any more. the new sportsvan was no alternative so i took a look around. the japanese or korean cars dont have what i want. no, not a ford or an opel. no french car. so what was left: a BMW active tourer. OK, it is a bit more expensive, but i don´t care. a good taste has always been a bit more expensive ;-)

      +aWatch remove that body and it doesn´t evenlook like a car. what a rubbish: of course the grill shows it is a BMW. remove the badge of a mercedes or volkswagen and you do not recognize the brand, BMW is identified as a BMW even if you take away the BMW badge

  • @friederich66
    @friederich66 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    so there are a lot of so-called fans who insist on RWD? they call it sportive? driving in npublic traffic has nothing to do with sports. RWD is fine to slide in winter when the trunk is empty and there is no weight on the wheels. when will you have an advantage ion RWD in daily traffic? powerslides around a curve? rubbish. in most everyday situations the FWD is of great advantage. curve taken too fast? release the gas pedal and the car will make it for you. slippery road? the car will follow the front wheels. space? no transmission tunnel, more space in the rear. times change and with it what one dem,ands from a car.
    Tradition is not holding the ashes but passing on the flame.
    so BMW opens a new chapter.
    if you want a real good RWD buy a volkswagen beetle (the original) and install a subaru watercooled boxer engine in the back (Back!!). some porsche brakes with it and i is the perfect car for all of you so-called "fans" and it is cheap
