Here's a new method to stamp concrete. We're using the Rock & Roller stamp from Marshalltown to stamp a cobblestone pattern into Luke's concrete patio slab.
This is the first job we've tried this new stamping method for concrete.
We've been wanting to try this but were waiting for the right situation to give it a try. This concrete patio slab had good access all around it so we gave it a go.
For the most part, I thought it worked well. It's different than using stamping mats like we're used to but all worked out well.
Let me know what you think in the comments.

The rock n' roller seemed like a great tool for stamping concrete!
That Luke is a beast!!! Pulling that mud is no easy job and he kept with it- I was tired just watching😆 Awesome job considering only 2 guys placing it!!
All the crazy good shots Tony hit in this match and came up short is mind blowing 🤯
just amazing love the whole affect. I'd call it beige colour. Nice subtle. I'd like to see more of your video.
Not sure I'm a fan, but this does look a bit faster.
1: The parallel lines left by the roller stick out with this type of slate pattern. Regular mats are shaped to avoid this.
2: It seems quite difficult to avoid the little slivers between two rolls, and they don't look great when they happen.
3: You get more control over stamping pressure with mats.
4: The last roll overlap is not desirable, but it seems you couldn't run the roller off the end like you could with a mat.
However, this might be better for a beginner because:
1: It applies a more uniform pressure across the slab than walking on or tamping mats.
2: You don't need to worry about alignment or orientation of each mat.
3: Might be easier to do with just one person
Go big or go home.
Luke your brave guy for testing it on your own it looks awesome you guys do a great job thank you for your videos.
I'm glad you tried this out. I'd seen it on Marshalltown's website but when I asked around no one in my area had ever used one. It seems like it'd be good for square slabs. I'm not sure that it would be effective on curved slabs due to overlap issues.
Looks great
That's nice
Pretty darn cool !!
That is cool.
I'd like it .
Solid effort man. Wieked job!!
You should watch "Concrete with the Hauses" they use a roller stamp that gives a stone finish over the whole area they usually have several guys using the rollers with no set pattern just randomly rolling all over the slab, then they cut in a border and use a 12" roller with a heavier stone imprint !! And after the antiquing process they always look good when done ! The roller you are using looks good but you can tell where the roller ends ! I prefer the stamps when doing that pattern !
I hear of guys using these rollers for barnyards in my area. They're aren't looking for a pattern, just some texture thats less aggressive than a broom so it washes up easier. Basically they pour, bull float, roll it quick and then leave.
I swear ive seen this video b4
90’ in February
So did we
It reminded me of a roller screed. We did am expirental pour on a driveway using this massive steel roller that rides on the edgeforms. It was suppose to be used with a special mix of concrete. It doesn't close up fully upon finishing. Almost like a very very bony mix with no fat. It was upstate NY and the idea wad the water flows through the pad. Therefore the water can't freeze in the pad. I think it was all pro bono from the company selling the product and if my uncle liked it he would use it on other jobs. Long story short. It was a bear to control the roller it almost killed me and the guy on the other end. And my uncle did not like the finish and we tore out all 25 yards and redid it. My uncle had to pay for the labor cost of the demo and the other concrete. Not to mention throwing schedules off.
Mike…. Concrete with the Hauses uses rollers sometimes I think they do a really good job …🇺🇸👊🏼🪚🔨🇺🇸
What happens if the last pass is less than a roller width wouldn’t the pattern not match.
That's a nice do u have address for it
Did a great job first time I saw one on a roller
For a narrow straight sidewalk maybe this is fine. The pattern becomes too redundant and the edge lines are too prominent in a slab. It looks okay but overall I’m not a fan.
tidy job , surprised it hasnt got a battery vibrator on the top bar
tinted liquid.. yes or no
"Just a Thought" I would imagine that the lesson to be learned here is to start rolling the pattern on the side where the first concrete was poured, thereby rolling with the drying pattern, not against it. If rolled this way, it's doubtful the weights would have been necessary, and the impressed patterns would be more consistent throughout the slab. YOUR THOUGHTS? "Live, Love, Learn" . . .
Looks like wallpaper. No option to change up pattern and keep away from boring repetition.
I’m not sure why people stamp concrete it usually looks like crap after, pavers always look better than stamped concrete
Im not a fan of stamp concrete eitger but if do e right it looks ok. I mean mikes woek ia sharp
@@GRUBB-MUDD yeah Mike does great work. Just most stamped concrete I see in public looks horrendous.
Not really grass growing
@@kirksdva8310 not if you do it right and you could always lay real bricks on a concrete base
