      After watching this video and your Ride 1Up Cafe Cruiser review, I’ve decided I want a ST Cafe Cruiser with the 700 rims and tires. You seemed to have an easier time pedaling without PAS on the 700.

    Excellent product for the price. Got mine three months ago and am approaching 500 miles. No issues whatsoever, and my commute is quite hilly, with the last bit a hill of 1.7 miles. It's a lunger with a standard bicycle.
    I have a few gripes by this time, as it is now raining alot here. This in no way makes the bike a lesser product. It just needs a couple tweaks.
    1) the display buttons are very small and have no height, so with gloves, they are difficult to manipulate when you need to skip around the assist levels. (remember those hills I mentioned?) I will sand the buttons rough , and add a dab of clear silicone to add relief and tactile height for gloves.
    2) The front fender is next to useless for rain. Much too abbreviated at the top, and I added a very large, long flap at the rear. I will develop some kind of extension for the top curve. At present, the water shoots out the top and gets blown staright back at the rider's legs - and - at the battery compartment, which is not sealed at all. I sealed it with a good quality electrical tape, so problem solved there.
    3) The saddle is subjective, but I think it sucks - but I ride Brooks exclusively, so I'm a Saddle Snob. I suggest a Brooks B-67.
    4) The pedals will be used, so I ditched the stock pedals because they have no bearings and are very stiff. Run that battery down and you'lll be sorry you didn't as well. And, if you rely too much on that thumb throttle, you'll soon be pedaling a 62lb monster. Not fun. Doable - but not fun. Frictionless pedals and a mindset for budgeting your commuting power assist.
    5) I sealed the open frame at the bottom of the battery compartment, which houses the all -important brain. Seal that up with tape, and check the tape once per week.
    That's about it for the small nit-pics. All in all, the bike gets it done - all 235lbs of rider, 17lbs of lunch and rain gear and work boots. It is fast and corners like a Ferrari because of the weight. Very good road holding at top speeds of 34mph coming down that long hill, and easily maintining 25mph on flats, with short peaks of 28mph with me pushing the pedals hard in 8th gear.
    Great video. Honest assessment. No BS. I will add that the dual piston brakes are extremely good, and can throw you over the bars in a Scare Stop Situation at high speeds. I wear a real crash helmet. You might consider one, too. A high percentage of bike crashes involve the rider's face, sooooo...jus sayin.

      Hi I wanted to ask how your 700 does on hills as I weigh 265… thanks

    • @OutnBacker

      @@bernievassallo3336 I'm 235 and the load on the bike is about 20lbs, so hills do affect battery dis-charge rate. I get 28-32 miles per charge, or, three commute days. I would think a rider of 175lbs would do much better. My commute is only 7 miles, but getting there includes a 1.7 mile hill with a gain of 300ft. The rest is not flat ,either, with rollers. For the roller sections, I normally use Level 3, and coast down the back sides. I don't lose much speed by coasting because a heavy bike willl remian fast down hill. When I get to the long hill, I use level 5 and pedal somewhat rigorously because I want the exercise. I'm in 4th or 5th gear but if I was lazy I could go to a lower gear and float up the hill. I use the factory settings for splitting the battery power between the five levels, so when I use Levels 4-or 5, it draws alot of power (485 watts). In lower assist levels it is more economical to the battery, but I'm going to work and I don't mess around.
      Been a year and a half. I have no regrets with the bike.
      Hope that helps.

      The part about needing to add tape for the seal and checking it weekly concerns me. I hope you’ve shared your feedback with the company so that they can make improvements. Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I’ve had this bike on my radar for a while and didn’t see a lot from current or previous owners. Glad I waited. I hope they make improvements.

    Thanks for this Ryan, I used your link and ordered this, the step through, after debating the Lmt’d on special for the same price. This is my first e-bike, and will be mostly commuting and groceries for this one. Reasons I chose the 700 - I’m a heart patient and this seems able to get me up a long hill when I’m tired out, and for the same price includes all the lights etc I’d buy anyway, at the price of slightly fancier components I don’t mind losing. Thanks for the detailed videos.

      @@bernievassallo3336 i don't know how to best gauge it for you but, it's fine. I weigh 185 and am 5'8 and put the pedal assist to three of the five available, when hitting a hill. The throttle is pretty strong but I rarely use it. I normally use level 1 and always pedal because exercise is important for my heart... it's almost too strong for my day to day. If i weighed a bunch more or wanted things easier, I might keep it at level 2 assist.
      Also, a full battery got me about 180 kilometers mostly using these level 1 settings.

    Ha! Your hill is 174 feet. My hill is 1,740 feet. I find myself placing focus on drivetrain and the low gears offered as I shop for my first ebike. A bit confusing for me as climbing is facilitated by both gearing and motor strength. Thanks for this good video of yours.

    I think this bike sold me on the 700 series. Seems like a great bike and the swept back bars included on the ST. Also, the rear rack, fenders and lights included for a little cheaper than the LMTD. I think it'll be a great decision. 👍

      Great Rory - appreciate it if you use my link to help support the channel. I tend to recommend the 700 over the LMT'D unless there is a particular reason you need the slightly nicer components.

    Their website now says “750w sustained” motor! Do you think something has changed?

    • @afshinPROF
      @afshinPROF 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have the same question. Is this a 500 watt motor or a 750 watt motor? If it's a 750watt motor I would expect the "peak" wattage to be 950+....The Ride1up website says 750w "sustained"...but this review says 500watts "nominal". Is Ride1up trying to be unclear/ambiguous about the actual size of the motor?

      I'm just about to hit 4k miles with it - plenty of power and range and no major issues with it. Upgraded to tektro hydraulic ebike brakes and smooth tread street tires and it's really good. Have a 11-34t freewheel to increase the top gear to pedal along around 25mph, and a lower 1st gear for easier climbing and starts.
      It's good, but I'd probably go with the Ariel Rider Kepler if buying a fat tire ebike today.
      That said I'm currently planning to install a middrive Bafang bbs02 kit to my new Schwinn Axum 29er hardtail. I'd recommend that route if you can, it's really the most bang for your buck performance and range wise.

      There are videos online that show you how to unlock that throttle limiter to get a few mph faster - In my experience is goes from 20mph to 26mph throttle only. Also pushes a little more torque from the start

    The issue I have with Ride1Up is their ridiculous insistence on shipping bikes without the fork attached. They are the ONLY SELLER who does this. And I watched a video where a trained mechanic had some issues assembling the bike properly. That's just unacceptable. If every other direct seller of E-bikes can figure out how to ship a bike with the fork attached, so can Ride1Up. Even watching their assembly videos is unclear. Unless or until they straighten that out I'd never buy one of their products, no matter how good it is.

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm not certain but I believe the fork not being installed allows them to save cost which in theory is why their prices are so good. If you're going to take it to a bike shop no matter what bike you purchase then it's not a big deal. Of course if you plan to diy then it's an extra step.

    Would the tires handle trails like the bearskin in Minocqua or the trail from Sparta to Elroy. They are crushed gravel. I'm trying to find a comfortable bike for my wife that is not a fat tire. Would the lectric XP be a better choice with it's 3" tires?

    • @EbikeEscape
      @EbikeEscape  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BigGuyLittleBikes provided some good thoughts. I've been on the Bearskin trail with these same tires. The crushed stuff was fine but any larger rocks will take a bit more skill - still doable depending on the riders comfort. Of course the Lectric's tires will provide more comfort and stability due to the additional width. Though the steering is also different. It's a tough call!

    • @FrugalBC
      @FrugalBC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve ridden both those trails with tires much less wide than the 700s, and the bearskin specifically I’ve done with 28s on a road bike quite comfortably. Even the cross bikes they recommend for such trails isn’t even close to 2.4”. Heck I just put 2.3” knobbies on my mountain bike for single track and it feels like a tank. It might be a different story if you’re going 20 mph on the bearskin, but you shouldn’t be going that fast on such a trail anyway.
