We don't live too far from the Sweet Grass Hills here in Montana, so I'm going to need to go and see if I can find some.

No. Seen wheatgrass but that is smaller as compared to sweetgrass saps that you showed in the video!!

I have never seen sweetgrass in my region however I have a question if I may.....is it acceptable to use a strand of sweetgrass in making a circle for the medicine wheel? For example, covering a wooden or metal circle with the sweetgrass? Also, is metal not suitable? Miigwetch!

The art of weaving sweetgrass baskets has been passed down, through the Gullah culture, who descended from West African enslaved. The Gullah are an African American ethnic group, living in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. I am blessed with Gullah heritage. Thank you so much for sharing, your indigenous knowledge.

When I was little my grandfather's cottage always had a beautiful smell every summer and some years ago I bought a braid of sweetgrass and realized that was the smell from my childhood. There must have been some growing near the lake. Lately I have been watching videos on sweetgrass and learning about your culture. Its funny that you say to put it over your doorway for protection, that's exactly where I had put it years ago and it's still there now and still has its beautiful distinctive smell. Thank you for sharing.

A group of us in Southern Ontario are reading Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Kimmerer. We are half way through taking our time to read only one small chapter each week. It is a transforming book. Thank you for your video and an even better understanding about sweetgrass and its uses in all is sacredness. Pastor Steven Loweth

I was lucky to be gifted sweetgrass from Montana and it has flourished for 4 years now here in Indiana and has spread out enough to be able to now pick it. I just braided my 1st time today and the smell is lovely. Thank you for your teachings. This was good medicine.

First saw sweetgrass and purchased some when my daughter was a student at The Detroit Waldorf School. We usually burn sage and my daughter smudges her sun before he goes off to school each day.

I have a garden bed full of sweet grass, as it has spread from a few small bunches gifted to me from a good friend. He passed away suddenly a few years ago. This bed of sweet grass is very special to me, and I know he wanted me to braid it. Is there a correct time to harvest it? I went out and pulled out enough to make two braids that came out to be about 11” long. I’m familiar with the 7 grandfathers and did pray mind body spirit while braiding them. I was thinking about making some braids and offering to trade for some beads at the local tribe’s powwow in July. Don’t know if that would work, or I could also just gift it to my native friends at the casino where I work in Michigan.

I wish I knew where to find sweetgrass in my area, because we do not buy our medicines. (My friends and elders are very generous with my family, though.)
I have a braid in my car, a large braid hanging with my son's drums and a small braid and some loose sweetgrass for smudging.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. ❤️💛🖤🤍

you talk about sweet grass on social media is a very frowned for Native culture. All sacredness is out the door once you disrespect it. But I applaud you on lighting the sweet grass with matches. Never use a lighter
