    I have seen other artists using these. Many comment on performance but appreciate the practical points you make about how it fits in your hand, the size, storage and all the pros and cons you raise in your reviews. Thanks for the video Lindsay.

    Thaniks for the review, I've been really curious about these pens, but can't justify getting more.
    Talking about Letraset nibs, reminded me of my biggest art mistake.
    Not knowing what I had, I ended up selling hundreds of Letraset Tria Pens in my eBay store. Back then, I had no idea how to use them!! My kids & I started this eBay store & then needed supplies to sell., so we went to a HUGE millionaire's auction for high end items to sell. ( We paid for two vacations with her stuff!)
    At the end of the 3rd day of auctioning, there were 2 tables, 8 ft long, full of pens, hundreds of colors, all with a triple set of nibs. There were also HUNDREDS of refills. I was an artist, but had never liked using markers. (I didn't know how.) We bought several hundred markers & sold them in our eBay store, amazed at how cheaply we bought them and how much money we made.
    I kept a shoebox full & they are still working! Thanks to you, I know how to use them now.
    I also know how crazy I was not to keep more, & that I was doubly dumb not to buy the refills. I had no idea what I would do with that much ink, but 3 tubs FULL (underbed size storage boxes really) sold for $15!!!

    Thanks for the demo. Love how you make your decisions. I had looked at the OLO website and it mentions that the first number is the hue and the second number is the value. With Markers starting with 0,1,2 being highly saturated, Markers starting with 3,4,5 being Mid saturation and Markers starting with 6,7,8 are low saturation. Oh they have a marker storage tower now that rotates so you can see both ends of the marker.

    My local store carries them very reasonably priced, so I did a total of 2 markers (4 colors) in my quest for my purple and orange. Orange is perfect … Purple failed me again! I don’t understand why NOBODY can make an actual GOOD Halloween purple! Like, a crayon purple and 1 or 2 shades down. Think old school lollipops, they were small, flat, circles and tasted wonderfully grapey-grape. 😌 Olo also does artist color collabs, which are curated sets within their color wheel. ❤️

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      A couple if reasons, purple is hard to blend and it often shifts from wet to dry. It's a hard color, the purple dyes are quirky.

    I haven't used markers since I got sick sniffing the grape scented one in elementary school.
    Watching this, I begin to wonder if I'm missing out, but still kind of scared to invest in yet another art supply. This one looks pretty neat though. Thanks for another great review.

      They're pretty great, and they don't smell much at all (but I might be used to it). If the smell of rubbing alcohol doesn't bother you, these won't.

    I watched this because i was really curious why it’s almost 2h long 😂 i was doing something else while watching so i could sit through all of it, it’s actually quite relaxing to watch the swatch and it was informative too. I did consider them when they first came out, but copics are actually still cheaper where I am and I can buy them open stock locally so decided to invest in a second hand copic set instead. If i had known about the the ink waste I might have changed my mind but it’s still nice for me to be able to go out and support local stores.

      @thefrugalcrafter  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It is definitely a long video, but I wanted to get in all the information and show as many colors as possible! I think buying what is locally available I'd the best idea.

  • @maureenhayes7318
    @maureenhayes7318 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Lindsay, OLO recommends leaving your caps off until you are done with your marker. They say they won’t dry out and you won’t get blurps or drips (kinda like when you first got Copics and had to pull both ends off the even them out. Anyway, I thought I would pass that along. I even bought a stand to place the markers I am working with (about 5) so I don’t have to recap while I’m using them for a coloring.

  • @pantalonious3984
    @pantalonious3984 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

    Holy guacamole those markers are the most expensive I have EVER seen before !!
    I’ll stay tuned to see if they are justified in that price but I am likely to just keep my Ohuhu & Caliart custom collection. . .
    Let’s see how these go because I know those liquid filled markers (like Karen brush for example) do hold a good deal of ink. . .

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I think they might be cheaper than Copic and a better value than the current Copic system in my opinion, still it sounds like you have a good set up. It's the dame price to get olos open stock as in sets you you can always try a color or two and see what you think. They will work with other alcohol markers.

    So much to learn from this blending demo. Blending for me is so difficult, to see your technique was really terrific!! I have the Olos and just love the depth of the colors, they have such a pureness of color.
    Love this , will keep this for reference.
    So glad Olo offers the lighter colors, very hard to find “color” in a light colored marker!
    Beautiful job.

    No time to watch in full, but I had to fast forward to your cute drawings. Oh soooo cute.
    On the Sketchbox TH-cam, I observed these versus Copic, and at least with a certain Olo gray versus a certain Copic blue, I thought the Copic blended better, not as streaky. I am no Copic fanatic, by any means, but at the price point, such things are worth considering. I think, just as with paints, color in markers sometimes matters in how the marker behaves. I can't wait to watch and see your review. Watching these videos, I always end up thanking my lucky stars for my insane amounts of Ohuhu and some Copics that I already have and wish I used more often. Your reviews have so much value toward that end.

    Too complicated for me to keep ink and nibs correctly paired, still too much wasted plastic for refill process imo, and would have been a real splash if they had been able to use transparent barrels. There is still too much waste, though. I don't use alcohol markers because of the additive's fumes, which are not good to breathe long term. I'm always looking for art materials that are as sustainable as possible. I appreciate your thorough reviews.

    • @lesleydickson7746
      @lesleydickson7746 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      They stay connected to their pair unless you take them apart, that's easy:) I understand your other concerns tho.

    • @danielleluna100
      @danielleluna100 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m genuinely asking out of just curiosity; so you won’t buy an art supply AT ALL if they have too much plastic and you feel they’re not sustainable? That seems to restricting, I suggest learning how to make your own. That’s my main long term goal with art supplies; to have enough knowledge to make quality art supplies. I could send you some info if you’d like 😊. 🤷🏻‍♀️ how to use alcohol markers by making your own though. Plastic or some receptacle (ya know holder thingy I’m just trying to sound smart lol) to hold the ink and nibs however you could use the refillable brush pens maybe? That could be worth it. Just trying to MacGyver something for you in my 🧠lol. Best of luck !! If you’d like some of the information I was talking about; with making your own products, lmk!! 👋🏻 😊

    Hullo Lindsay, I have watched Harry from Art Gear Guide’s review and he was over the moon for these markers! He did mention the swatch sheet several times and I am wondering if the pad they sent you is the same paper as the swatch sheet? I noticed that you have used different papers during your blending tests? Ok more video to go!

    ** Does anyone see an EXPENSIVE more complicated Chameleon markers??**
    Chicaaaa I only see the difference being the ink thing. Those markers I feel are not gimmicky IF you CAN use them in their intended use with the blender. They were $99 for a full set last I saw. Yes, they are up there in price but you can get many many many hues in one marker and they Blend like a dream 🌈 plus the toppers they offer. I have been on the fence about buying either them or another huge set of Ohuhu’s since my sisters cat thought my entire collection was the litter box ( 😱 nightmare lol). I can tell you are getting frustrated with the product and you’re Theee Lindsay The Frugal Crafter!! And I know they’ll give me more than a run for the money 🤑 they’ll cost me. I loved this review so much and all your reviews. YOUR HONESTY IS A M A Z I N G and UNMATCHED 👏! I am a bit of a supply nerd and love all the information you give. My sister and I have talked in great length about how great you are! So, I thank you for giving me some talking points lol 😂 ok. 👍🏻 I’ve blabbed enough. But before these I definitely recommend the Chameleon markers. They are a little different but I think less markers on my space in comparison to 500 markers is better for me. So the reloading of the blending or technically muting pen; seems to take the time place for searching for the right color. Food for thought 💭 ? lol. 👋🏻 Ty again 😊

    Sorry Ive been MIA. I HAVE TO COMMENT ON THIS VIDEO! I MUST!!! FROM THE MOMENT I FIRST USED OLO... THERE'S BEEN NO THER FOR ME!!! Ive used many brands. NOTHING COMES CLOSE TO OLO!!! HANDS DOWN. I HAVE THEM ALL. So much ink in them
    Very reasonably priced. I knew Id never afford Copics. I cant agree with the Copic cost. Theres still about 60 or seventy colors coming in 2025. Such a thrill to use. Blend excellent. I use speciaty hevy paper. I use both ends filled with same color. That way I have ordering time to get a refill. I love the brush nib quality. I think Japan makes the best inks and ink delivery.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      A $4.10 marker half is equivalent in ink to a whole Copic sketch which is $6+ so it's an investment but should work out to less than Copic and on par with brands like prismcolor, altenew, blick studio brush and promarker. There is a lot to think about when investing in any markers. They all work together, so I recommend trying a few colors open stock to see what you prefer and build a collection slowly overtime, especially if budget is a concern.

      You might want to remember that Lindsay is born and bred in Maine! She does not have a heavy accent, yet I am willing to bet that she has worked hard to not sound so “New Englander” and her time in radio might be the reason as well. I have never had a problem understanding her EVER!
