Since Getter Robo Arc is getting a anime that will be a 1:1 adaptation of the manga along with a proper ending from Go Nagai, reading the manga is seriously mandatory. You will not understand Arc's story if you don't read the original manga, G, Shin, and Go. The original series has never been adapted in an animated form. To put it into perspective, watching Getter Robo Arc would be like starting DragonBall by watching the Buu Saga or Omega Shenron. And there's going to be a lot of people whose first series will be Arc just because it happens to be the newest series.

I have to recommend reading the manga. As the anime series tend to split off from one another, the manga has a stronger story lineage between the getter robo series. The art and story telling in it is amazing as well!
I tried reading the manga and I was loving it at first, but then it got really repetitive and kinda lost that super edgy and brilliantly dark tone. I don't mind it being a episodic story don't get me wrong but after a while it just got really generic, like they had one story idea and reused every single chapter. I might try taking it back up cos maybe the story will get better
I just finished watching Getter Robo Armageddon. It was a fantastic show and I was surprised how little the Getter franchise is discussed among kaiju fans even before I watched the show. Great video covering this!

I think it’s safe to say that Getter Robo is probably my favorite super robot mecha franchise of all time. Hands down no comparison. I have consumed so much of this franchise that I have now become obsessed with it. No other mecha series can compare now, my third eye has truly opened. Seriously I have pretty much looked at almost everything ever having to do with this franchise and my obsession is only growing more and more. Seriously though this obsession is borderline unhealthy for me someone please save me.
Still got my out of print Geneon DVD box set of New Getter Robo, and the DVDs for Armageddon. Also, take a drink for each time Musashi dies in the Getter Robo series and Super Robot Wars, in general.

Personally, Ark was not the best series to watch because of it's floppy animation, but damn it made me believe in Getter with its characters and specially it's music (I f#cking love Heats and Storm). Playing SRW30 only reinforced this new faith of mine. Already watched Armageddon and readed the first manga (MUSASHIIIIII!!!). Looking for Getter Robo G manga to continue
Trigger warning for anyone who wants to get into Getter because of this video: Getter Robo is incredibly violent when at its worst. Like, elementary school students suicide bombing dinosaurs to avenge a classmate violent (mostly just in the manga, but New and Shin do their best to adapt that level of violence to animation which other series didn't do as much). That being said it is also an incredibly influential series and when you're done with it you'll start seeing its fingerprints everywhere, and in my eyes it is an great exploration into the beauty and terror of human will and evolution that is definitely worth getting into if you can get past the darkest parts. That being said, if you do decide to go through with this journey... GO FORTH, GUIDED BY GETTER!
You know it's funny that you recommend the spin offs because i usually do the opposite. I always recommend the manga first since it's kinda short and easy to read. It also get a lot more complex everytime the story progresses but ishikawa manages to keep it easy to read. It also opens the door to all the spin offs since you'll understand where the things are coming from. I don't think i would've understood armageddon if i didn't read the manga first tbh.

I don't get why everyone is so in love with this mech. Is it only because of fun national stereotypes? Not being American, I don't see as much appeal as you pals do. Yeah, it's a cowboy mech, funny, but it doesn't quite go along with Getter Robo's overall style and grimdark epicness of original manga (part 3 onwards), OVA Armageddon and OVA New. Stilva is better. Also, calling Texas Mack "the greatest giant robot ever" while talking about Getter Robo, of all things, is just plain heresy.
It's a lot of eye-candy but the plot is held together by chicken-wire and doesn't really make much sense. Imagawa was fired as director after the third episode and he took his notes with him so the rest of the series was basically made up as they went along. It doesn't help that it's a sequel to an obscure radio drama that takes place in a different continuity than either the manga or anime so that makes it even more confusing both to Getter Robo fans and newcomers alike. I enjoy it for the loud, stupid fun it is but it's definitely a deeply flawed series.
I'm just gonna say this, Getter Robo > Evangelion and I love Evangelion, just Getter Robo Saga has quite a ways more world-building and storytelling and absolute batshit cosmic horror.
