I kind of wonder if it's similar to my culture where someone that's been together long enough and entrenched in the family already, they'll refer to the significant other as "your wife/husband" even if you're not married yet. It's like approval and acknowledgement of the depth of the relationship. That's how I take it, at least

What is the name of this movie or show? It was definitely sweet & fair to in the in-laws sticking up for the first girlfriend. My Mother always hated that hypocrisy of people giving smiles & respect to the new girlfriends/boyfriends of the of any marred couple or serious relationship. Heck I hate seeing that too and I've never been a two face for anyone. Especially for the sake of family. There is nothing as ugly as a two face hypocrite.
