    Are different nozzle sizes available for a 1 barrel carburetor such as holley 1904 or 1909 ?

    I have a 84 Monte Carlo SS and my car seems to idle fine but under normal driving it runs like crap and bogs under any throttle more than just a light tap. But if I pump it and floor it the car takes off hauling a&$. Any idea if this could be it?

    Todays pump gas has caused premature failure of the diaphragm on my carb.

    • @immeohmyoh

      i might have the same problem, leaks from the bottom around the pump. diaphragm looks thin, did anyone invent a modern one? i need to find one

  • @Faith0929ROK
    @Faith0929ROK 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They didn’t tell you u need to check the gap with engine hot at the idle. Not when engine is cold and choke closed.

  • @immeohmyoh

    have they reinvented the little diaphragm that goes around the accellerator pump yet to withstand ethanol? i need a replacement for my 1970 holley, it's kinda threadbare and seems to be the point of the leak

      In case anyone is still wondering about this, it's the green diaphragm you want. Some rebuild kits come with both black and green diaphragms, use the green one.

    Get a diaphragm rated for ethanol.

    what would cause a dribble then stream from nozzle, brand new carb from holley, had to swap out the pump they had in carb as it would not even move when below zero, put in a pump from a demon kit had on hand.. was trying to cure off idle stumble and then looked at the flow after cams or nozzles did not correct issue. The nut on my adjuster is near end of threads just to make contact, perhaps something is bent, it was made during pandemic and took them 3 months to make me one, 660 Truck Avenger. had 28 went to 31, tried dif cams, heavy plow truck, then looked and saw the dribble at off idle.. think that is issue.. maybe bore is rough or check valve below squirter? of course snowing now and might have to suffer another season with it like this..

    • @craiggerlach5548
      @craiggerlach5548 ปีที่แล้ว

      holley had one of the green ethanol diaphragms in it, it was -15F and it would not squirt at all, just bind,, was fun pulling it twice in blistering weather. guess their ethanol pumps need some new material to be used when cold.. now wish kept injection on this ride.. was carb when bought and kept, should have just went back to injection, carbs are a pain with these different blends of fuel lately..

    • @craiggerlach5548
      @craiggerlach5548 ปีที่แล้ว

      now summer, still trying to get stumble at off idle cleared up.. the page that directs us here goes from adjusting clearance on pump arm right to changing out the squirters, and makes no comments on pump cams.. says heavy mid axle range should have small squirters then says bump them up 3 sizes, I already tried that, made no difference.. guess have to look at the video to right mentioning pump cams to get this figured out... 5.7 040 over 395 roller cam..

    • @craiggerlach5548

      Just wish when you send in a carb for warranty the carb sent back was set up the same as the carb we sent in... I set this carb up too many years ago so lost the sheet with jet sizes, squirters size, power valve size, pump cam setting. starting from scratch when it took months to get her fine tuned is a royal PIA...

    • @craiggerlach5548
      @craiggerlach5548 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was -10F when I tried to set this carb up, just looked at what I stopped at and was leanest it could possibly be on pump cams, Black on #2, went to Orange on #1and stumble gone,, finally can move onto other projects.. thought had purple in there..

    My double pumper dies when the secondary’s open and it’s s brand new carb, I’ve tried all different sizes of nozzles with no luck at all

      I really need more info about your set-up, but it sounds like you have a carburetor that is too large for your engine. What is the list number of the carb you have? Now some details about your engine and trans combo? What cubic inch is the engine, intake? headers or manifolds? What rpm is your red line, manual or automatic transmission? If it's auto what is the stall of the convertor? weight of the car? thx J

      HolleyPerformance my engine is a 305 small block chev with 10:1 compression, fully ported vortec heads with z28 valve springs and larger valves, 270 magnum comp cam 226/226 @50 470 lift, performer RPM intake, HEI ignition 38 total timing all in by 3000 RPM, swapping manifolds to long tube headers soon, red line is 6200RPM making roughly 370hp stock stall and 308 gears, the carburetor is a 650CFM brawler with electric choke and mechanical secondary’s had to add larger jets and 3.5 powervalve because vacuum is 6HG in gear, runs excellent once I am off idle and going down the road and I’m getting about 19MPG I get a lean condition off idle so I ordered the 50cc pump kit hoping that helps me out it also has a 45 nozzle with the hollow screw car is 3000LBS

      @HolleyPerformance  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@christianbressette8879 Pretty healthy 305! You say it runs excellent off idle? If you are cruising and punch it (wide open throttle) do you get a hesitation or bog? Did you change out the nozzle on the secondary also? How about repositioning the nozzle cam to another hole or swapping cam profiles?

    • @christianbressette8879

      HolleyPerformance I’ve tried lots of different cams except yellow and brown, runs best with blue on the primary, if I open secondary’s slowly I have no big or hesitation but if I floor it the engine stalls I’ve got a pink cam in the rear with a #18 nozzle

    Ok.so if its not set right on a double pumper.will car idle proper and fall flat in a gear..thats what mine does...i get jerked around like im driving like an idiot...but its the car and i cant figure it ou

    • @justicelife1164

      This is what my car is doing as well. Put in gear it stumbles and falls flat. But if I quickly pump throttle the response will catch then I can move the car without stalling. I going take mine off and check it. What fixed yours ? Thanks.
