    This gentleman has been the most helpful man I've ever listened to on bush aircraft. He goes into everything. I have so much confidence in him, and his knowledge is encyclopedic. He is a really nice man to listen to.

  • @michaelbohlander8392

    Rim=wheel
    Wheel half + o-ring + spud + tie bolts + wheel half = wheel assembly
    Tire+tube+flap+wheel=tire and wheel assembly
    That's how I differentiate.
    Good video thanks for posting

    I found your little nugget very interesting about the flap on the Bearhawk blocking rudder authority. Since we're on the cusp of decision making on a 4 place cub, im going to talk to Kirk about that. Moving the flap a foot away from the fuselage. As well as a lotta other stuff.

    • @fly8ma.comflighttraining199

      Let us know how the cub works out! Looks like Kirk builds some sick airplanes!

      @@fly8ma.comflighttraining199 as it turns out, because of seeing your bearhawk, we're 75% sure we're going with a Bearhawk 5. Thinking that it will have a better useful load. And on amphibs.

    A wheel is any circular object with an ability to attach to an axle of sorts. A rim is the hunk of metal that replaced spokes. A tire is the rubber.

    How much speed penalty for the big vs stock wheel/tires?

    • @taproom113
      @taproom113 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Opinions vary. I've heard some say as little as 10 kts all the way to 35 kts. If you're going from the smallest 'stock' tires to the largest available, I'd say closer to the 35 mentioned. No personal experience myself as I'm sticking with the 8.5x6's on my Maule for now. Skal, ^v^

    It still has 2 pads per wheel, it has twice the clamping force of a single piston caliper.

    • @michaelbohlander8392
      @michaelbohlander8392 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depending on the pad size and piston surface area. I'm pretty sure my supercub had Aztec wheels and brakes. There's that wheel word again ...

  • @timothymeadows4242

    FYI: The belt zip tied to your motor, the belt will degenerate from hot-cold-hot-cold. You can spray belt dressing to extend it's life
    I'm guessing 8-12 PSI for your tires?

  • @scottbusby6095

    Can you do a video covering what happens if you turn only using the rudder and keep wings level. Saw a RC video and well respected chap saying this is a safe way to turn at low altitude. Coming from full size gliding years ago and now flying RC I was always taught coordinated flight was the safest. Can you comment or do avideo covering this please. (Flat turn with rudder only, possible opposite aileron ) many thanks

    • @alexmoreland7938
      @alexmoreland7938 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Turning with rudder while keeping the wings level (if that’s what you mean) is a skidding turn. If you stall while skidding, there is a good chance of a spin developing. You mentioned the R/C guy doing this at low level. Don’t ever do this, you can’t recover from a spin at low altitude. You are correct, a coordinated turn is safer. Slipping is generally safe as well, just don’t skid.

      @scottbusby6095 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alexmoreland7938 Thanks Alex for the advice. I thought what he was saying was wrong but doubted myself. Now you mention skidding turn I understand. Cheers

    I've been looking to buy (no, I do not believe I have the skills to build one) a back country STOL bush plane that not only has excellent STOL capabilities but is also extremely maneuverable and reliable. Money is not as large of an issue as preformance, reliability, and safety. Currently with a $300,000 budget, what would you recommend?

  • @BigMoose906

    the prop thinghy, if zou keep adding power (actual hp, kW) to a 2 bladed prop you would start to loose efficiency. thats where 3+ bladed props kick in.
    also, a tire is a tire, on a bicycle, motorbike, tractor, gocart, car, truck, airplane. cessna or 737.
    wheel hub/rim is another.
    together they make a wheel (assembly; as per boeing/airbus/crj/canadair/atr amm) as we know it
