- Hello fellow bug fans. Guess what I actually managed to finish.
Large scale projects really aren't my thing and I'm very very surprised I actually managed to get this done. I was so happy with all the support you were all giving the storyboard and it pushed me to see what I could make out of it. I'm actually really proud of how it came out. I really hope you enjoy this and a huge thanks to all the nice comments that were left on the storyboard.

I like to believe, the Pale King didnt die because of Void shenanigans, but because he couldnt actually leave his throneroom for groceries because he went a bit too crazy on his home decoration of buzzsaws

You know he can reincarnate right?
No one would debase him. Almost all of the sentience of Hallownest is the result of his presence, and to protect it he risked it all.
"A world you gave to bug and beast as they had never dreamed."
And most probably, never deserved. Also, if you think about it, you can say that no other sacrifice (with a notable exception of the Dreamers) did anything to help save them from the infection. No matter how brave and honored any other creature may have been, all they could do was sitting and watching while PK tried everything, and when he failed, all hope was lost. Only the Void of the Abyss and a vessel deeply tied to it (our Knight) could turn the tides, but the Void is of such an alien nature that PK could not foresee this future, and (probably) committed suicide. And you know why the Void could do something PK couldn't? Because it was stronger than any higher being could ever be.
Hollow Knight isn't set in a world where willpower can get you anywhere you want. If you don't have enough power or the legit means to obtain it, you'll never have it. Simple as that.

I feel like the last verse is where this song REALLY fits with the Pale King. The biggest trait of the Pale King that we know for a fact is his hubris. He thought that he could succeed where all others had failed, that he could build an eternal kingdom. And after he sealed the Hollow Knight, he thought he had succeeded. The triumphant declarations in that part of the song are simply perfect.

Yeah the pale king was a jerk. He killed thousands of his own children in pursuit of a plan that his most devoted Knight, Ogrim, said was cruel and unethical. However he had Ogrim exiled, and then he sealed his own dying children into a deep dark abyss, with nothing but the betrayal of the one figure in their lives.
@@lemonplayz4032 Ogrim didn't know about the plan. If you Dreamnail him after the fight, it reads "So there were others" implying that Ogrim didn't know about the rest of the siblings. But, yes. Pale King more like Pale Kuk.
Well the Pale king succeeded, even with all of the Radiance’s attempts, Hallownest stands eternal
@@NeptuniumNecromancy "Stands", eh, it's at roughly the same point it was before the PK arrived (and thus before it was called Hallownest). The Hive, Mantises, and _maybe_ Deepnest is still sentient, but they were before. Without the PK's beacon, who knows if the other bugs remain sentient (we can't know (for now), since once the infection is stopped, the game ends). Maybe his metaphoric "afterglow" (as mentioned by the Godseeker) is enough, since Elderbug and other NPCs seem to retain sentience.

The void was that cost. He used it to end the infection, but what he didn’t realise that it was also the end of him.

One thing that always struck me about the Pale King is how pretty much everyone loved him. Not just the common people, but the bugs (and the root) who actually interacted with him.
The White Lady still loved him even though he did... _that_ to her children, to the point that she refuses to reproduce anymore.

In fact, the fate of the vessels should not seem sad. Those who believe that the Pale King killed his children need to understand that the Pale King did not create CHILDREN. He created creatures that could contain the infection, contain the Radiance. He had not originally planned to treat the vessels as children. He needed a vessel without emotion. Without the emotions that Radiance could use to corrupt the vessel. And yet, time after time, all the vessels received these emotions. And they could no longer be vessels. They weren't perfect, they were broken. What do you do with something that can't be fixed at all? You throw away this unnecessary garbage that can no longer be used for its intended purpose.
The King can only be blamed for ruining a perfect vessel, a Pure Vessel. He became so attached to it that the vessel was no longer hollow. It became full.
Instead of throwing away the vessel and trying to create a new one, the King took a chance. Time was very short, and he used a defective vessel. Garbage. Junk. What should have been thrown out

The story of the pale king in hollow knight always never makes so much sense but dose at the same time that it's crazy what the people at team cherry are able to do. I'm honestly just really sad for all of those little void babies🥺.
sylent that sad part is their plan was making an emotionless Killer to contain the void, So all the Imperfect void babies he sent in had feelings of some sort.

I really appreciate how this humanizes (or bug-inizes) the Pale King while simultaneously giving him a very well deserved comeuppance.
Pale King did a lot of things wrong sure... But he tried to save his kingdom, his creation, his followers and that's okay.
The Pale King is my favorite HK character simply because he tried his best and experimented and it all just backfired spectacularly because of some black goop and orange juice, he reminds me of me... plus he looks cool

this really shows how pk wasn't a bad guy, he just made a lot of bad decisions in desperation to save his kingdom and people. he didn't like the sacrifices he had to do, but he felt like he had to. and he thought things could get better. but despite his attempts, he failed..

Everything going to hell at the end and the Pale King finally realizing he’s screwed as the void claims him is extremely scary.
1:46 this one shot gives the Pale King so much personality. He knows he’s about to tarnish himself with the ultimate sin of betrayal yet is willing to do it for his kingdom’s wellbeing. (In case you didn’t know, Herrah only agreed to become a dreamer if the PK had a child with her, that child being Hornet). Amazing.
He asked the white lady in advance, she thought it was fine and even likes hornet as she raised her.
Seeing this in my recommended today gave me the most excitement I have felt in weeks dude. This is amazing and I love it and aaaaaaa

The story of a plastic fork finding out that committing genocide on your own children usually does not to help too much in a fight, and thus lost a war against an angry fluffy moth. But hey, he’s a plastic fork, how was he supposed to know that?
I notice than in every single animatic of this song, the line “I tried I tried, to make you listen to me”, is misinterpreted as a child. Which is interesting

@@moonlysheephost8950 basically, the pale king screwed Hera(TheGreatSpiderOfEnemy) because Hera wanted a child. Once the child was born, who was Hornet, the child was raised by the pale lady. Hera was of course one of The dreamers, as of course, if Hera got a child from the pale king, she will become one of the dreamers to keep the seal from breaking.

I really enjoy the expressiveness of PK's eyes, especially in the end sequence when the void has finally reached out to claim him. I love seeing the confusion and then the panic set in, him tripping into his seat on the throne, void tendrils seizing his sleeve and dozens of vessels' shades' eyes closing in...
You can feel the terror of the Pale King, as viscerally as if you yourself were looking out through his eyes, hearing his desperate breaths and frantic heartbeat deep inside your own ears...
Or maybe I'm just really imaginative :P Great animation though really I watch it on repeat to soak up every little detail over and over again ;D

I think this animation shows that perfectly. After all the vessels that have been wasted, after all the victims that had given in to the infection, and after the loss of his son.... It was all for an important cause. Sure, it may have taken a lot of lives, but the king help to that this would end any more casualties from occurring to this precious Kingdom. Obviously we know now that wasn't enough... but his intentions were clear. Unfortunately , the sacrifices he did make did come back to bite him. ( excellent animation ! And I love the art you did in this. Good job 👍 ✨ )
Yeah. He seemed kind of like a good person and yet his actions completely dehumanize him. His actions were completely horrible and monstrous and yet he doesn’t seem that bad. It Pretty elegantly expresses No cost too great.
I like the idea that the last chorus is being mockingly sung by the siblings.

I watched the storyboard more times than I can count, seeing this makes me happy. The detail and quality of it all is amazing!
Animatics like this are exactly why I wish Hollow Knight would get the same treatment with epic comic dubs that Undertale did.

I loved the storyboard. I ADORE this! I love how Isma had a little green scarf-thing, along with all the other little details. Like the Pale King being brighter than the vessels in the silhouette flash. And the backgrounds are so beautiful and detailed! I’m so happy that you finished this, and I look forward to seeing whatever else you come up with in the future!

No one actually knows what happened to the Pale King, but this is a great theory video+music video. I also like the detail in the knights, like Ze'mer and Isma, even though we don't know what she actually looks like from a full view. Beautiful video.
Almost everyone points to Void. You can even see Void particles in his throne room. Some think it might be dust bet dust particles are small and fade slow. The Void particles are big and fade fast. And in the throne room, the particles are big and fade fast so Void.
The original storyboard was ICONIC to the HK community, it's so cool to see it colored like this! It's really amazing, well done!

I really like how you animated the Pale King's facial expressions, he has such a nice ray of emotions in this.
The pale isnt an idiot, it just never worked out for him, he did all that with good intentions, he wanted to save evryone from the infection afterall

PK is the kind of ruler god to say that he and only he may sit at the top. Shaman’s power? Shunned. Lifeblood? Banned. Wouldn’t be surprised if he knew what he was doing when the moths were convinced to abandon the Radiance...
The whole video is so amazing! Everything is so detailed and I love that there is a ton of movement, especially towards the end!

YOO WHAT this is so amazing?? I thought the storyboard was fantastic by itself, and most artists leave videos like that completed as they are (which is completely understandable. Art is hard) BUT YOU FINISHED THIS AND IT TURNED OUT SO GREAT
I always thought that The Pale King died to exposure to Void over time. I'm in love with this view.
This is the sort of content that makes me question if The Pale King is as bad as the community makes him out to be. I mean, no doubt, he was an asshole, the stuff he did is absolutely dehumanizing in nature. But stuff like this comes up, and you really stop to think if he was just trying his best. I mean, he himself made concessions to save a kingdom he, perhaps, truly cared for when you stop to think about it. I feel sorry for him, regardless of his wrongful deeds.

All I can say is I’m so happy this exists. Since this video I’ve seen so many people doing this same kind of but this has always been one of my favorites, and weather it was just by association or it actually being a good song touch tone telephone has become one of my favorite. Also first this isn’t a critique just an idea but wouldn’t have been cool if he looked at peace for like one little second as if he was saying to himself the line he’s remembered by “no cost to great” and that includes his life... idk just though of it and though it was cool sounding...

When you made the first one, I had no idea that you were going to make one in colour, mainly for the fact that the storyboard was already super detailed and impressive. With this one, you just knocked it out of the park. Awesome job. Every detail from the original has been heightened tenfold!

The Pale King tried so hard to save his kingdom, to save his people, to keep them sentient and above all, to keep his legacy standing. He did a better job than most people, and basically sacrificed his dignity to try. He also knew that the kingdom was going to fall at some point, he just wanted to delay it. Stop insulting him in the comments.
More than that, he was willing to sacrifice everything BUT his people to save them.
Yes, he was willing to kill all his descendants but he opposed the master of souls, for him his people were his priority

The poor Pale King. It's strongly implied that, before he showed up, all bugs everywhere were losing their ability to reason and were becoming base creatures. The King took it upon himself to create a civilization that could restore to bugs their self-determination. That's why no cost was too great: he wasn't fighting for the kingdom, or for his legacy. He was fighting for all bugs to have a future. And from what we now know, with numerous settlements outside of Hallownest, it seems that he ultimately succeeded. He sacrificed everything - his children, his kingdom, his very life - but as a result he did indeed give back free will to the bugs.

Anyways, VERY nice animation.
This song really sums up the king. He thinks he's right, so he's going to do what he wants right or wrong. Even if it means abandoning his thousands of "imperfect" children, even though in the end, the hollow knight was another failed experiment.

One small detail I like to believe is that the pale king was quick to anger and quite stubborn at times. My reason for this is the behaviour of the kingsmolds which he created (and since they are made of void that personality in them must have come from their creator)

This. This right here compliments the Pale King's character so well! I don't neccesarily think he was evil. If anything, he seems like a morally grey type of character. Thank you for not portraying him as an 'evil fork man', and showing that there is more to him as a character.
I'll go through some of my favorite highlights of this animatic. For one. I adore all the triumphant scenes in the song! The Pale King believed that he could build and prolong an eternal Kingdom, thrive where others could not. He thought he could save it from the Infection by containing it inside of his son. I think these parts of the song compliment his thoughts/triumphant feelings quite well!
I know a lot of people keep mentioning this, but the Pale King does not seem like a bad guy. He made a lot of mistakes, but he thought it was the right thing to do as an attempt to save his people and kingdom. He disliked the sacrifices he had to make, but thought he had no other choice. He believed it would make everything better, but despite everything, he still failed. The greatest cost of all of this would lead to his own fall.
I know this was a lot to type out, but I wanted to share my thoughts on this as well! He is my second favorite character in Hollow Knight, and I adore this animatic so much! Good job on portraying his character!

I still find it crazy just how well this song fits, down to the instruments being violins and sounding super royal. The lyrics fit very well, the instruments fit very well, I just associate this song with the pale king now

I was hunting out this song to point someone in the direction of Lemon Demon, happened to see this video and squinted like 'Oh thats that cool Hollow Knight PMV...I do'nt remember it being colored....n-...OH MY GOD' I ...this was one of those things I never expected to see finished, I haven't watched it yet but I"M SO HYPE AHHH TY FOR YOUR HARDWORK! Now I may enjoy this meal!

Everyone from the Kingdom surviving up to the game has a mental fortitude of steel. Hornet, Nailsmith, Nailmasters, Ogrim, and others...
The pale king sacrificed everything, enslaved void, he brought untold pain to his people in a last ditch effort to save them. In the end, he succeeded in creating the pure vessel, but he corrupted it. His sin was love. The pale king is the reason the hollow knight is impure, he loved his son and for it the whole kingdom was lost to madness. He lacked the fortitude to make the final step. In the end there was a cost too great. He got what he deserved.
