  • Envision Glasses are AI-powered smartglasses that help people who are blind or have low vision live more independently. This assistive wearable technology uses ChatGPT and Google Glass hardware to capture and convert the visual information around the user into speech. And thanks to more widespread 5G networks, these smartglasses are able to process this information much more quickly, providing a much more seamless experience for visually impaired users. Take a look at how the Envision Glasses work, and how it assists the blind and visually impaired.
Special thanks to Sam Seavey of The Blind Life for his thoughts and experience with the Envision Glasses.

it is yes. The glasses are pretty expensive and I'm not sure what they're gonna do once Google glass discontinues the enterprise version of their Google glasses like they're planning on doing, but you could still buy them right now. The ChatGPT stuff was added at a layer date but they've been around for a few years.

yeah I'm not a big fan of it either as a blind person. I use some of these apps on the phone and I try never to get people spaces in the shot but it's hard in a crowd. What I'm hoping for is that someday we will have AI that is comparable to this but on device that doesn't need to send anything off to other servers I know that open AI does have policies about this, but of course I'm sure they also have forced arbitration and a clause giving protection from accidental data loss like most of these assholes.
On the other hand, the government and many corporations already have everything they could want on you easily due to lobbying, while this at least is actually helping someone. In the same way that people lift their feet so that people in wheelchairs can get on the bus this could be considered a minor inconvenience especially by the newer generations that seem to not care about their privacy at all. I'm not saying I love that, but it is an argument that can be made.
If disability rights legislation wasn't constantly several years behind, being completely ignored, or never being enforced in the first place, the world might be a lot more accessible by now in which case we wouldn't need shitty Band-Aids like this to paper over all the cracks.
Ultimately I have to do what I have to do in order to survive in this world, make a living for myself, and stay safe. I don't like screwing other people over to do it, but at this point with privacy being a joke I don't think I'm adding much to the problem.

If that's your only takeaway from my entire comment, than I don't see any point in wasting any more of my time with you. You've already clearly come to a preconceived conclusion about people like me, and you're willing to throw away any context or argument that doesn't perfectly align with your extreme bias. How disappointing and unintelligent. I was hoping for an actual conversation, but it looks like you just want to get a snide cheap shot in at the expense of others.

honestly as weird as it may sound, I would rather know than not. I don't have the glasses because they're freaking expensive, but I do have a similar app on my phone and just knowing the details of a room then I've been in a dozen times and never bothered to examine closely is adding a lot that I didn't even know I was missing. From decorations to potted plants to posters and signs and pictures, they add personality to places. And a lot of those things I wouldn't know about unless I have the time to go touch everything, and in many situations that's not really appropriate anyway.
On the exact opposite end of the spectrum I'm also getting a more big picture of things. Like landscaping designs and wall murals and the color of paths and walls, or even just how buildings look on a street. it opens up an entire dimension that I didn't even bother with before because it was not really available to me. And contrary to popular media, most blind people aren't willing to go around asking sided people for descriptions of things. Partly because we don't even know what we're missing sometimes so we don't know what to ask for, and partly because we don't like owing people things when it already feels like that's how society is set up especially when those people are friends or family, and very few people are willing to accept anything in exchange for helping us. it just feels selfish and indulgent when I can still do most of the things I need to do without knowing those details. But now that I can whip out my phone and get a decent idea of these kinds of things without having to talk to anybody in a matter of seconds and then even ask follow-up questions about those details if I want to, it suddenly doesn't seem so frivolous or unimportant. I now feel like I belong in the world more and have a stronger connection to it in some ways.

going back to how it was easy to make.
-chat gpt can describe image so describing surroundings is easy
-reading text and translating existed for like over a decade

Will the glasses let me ride a horse around the riding arena independently, let me know which direction it is facing so I can get it out of its stall more easily? Could these glasses help me, as a totally blind person, to better train, and care for, my own small miniature horse once I get one because I plan on training a miniature horse to become a guide animal for me rather than the traditional guide dog.

    • @renseiryuu
      @renseiryuu 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I don't think it's that advanced yet; I think this glasses will let you recognize signs and items in front of you like you normally taking a picture and let the AI analyze it and tells you what's in there. It also can do character recognition and turn it into a speech (and translate if needed). It's useful, but as a normal person, I think it's only slightly more advanced than what Google Lens does (cmiiw, everyone). I'm afraid riding a horse and animal training would be a bit too complex for it at the moment.
But hey, who knows? Maybe in a few years such option might be possible. AI technologies grow so fast lately. Feels like we're starting to feel that kick that will bring us to the futuristic life!

1.what is the point of reading signs if person is unable to see them.. and if he can then jsut use regular glasses
    2. If it is for traveling/moving then having camera at the chest /belt etc. would be better as you would have clearer directions and would be closer to the ground so it would better see things close to you.
    3. Chat GPT has tendency to lie.... so..... good luck with the bus , or street lights...
    4. it would be annoyingly loud in public spaces but to quiet in loud places making it useless
    5. Translating text and reading it... just use the phone...
Over all sing reading and translation could more easily be used and developed by having an application in the phone and would be 1000 times cheaper (i am not exaggerating).
As for moving around glasses are bad idea as they are small so their battery life would be limited same with computing power and even loudness of their speakers
Also lastly it probably needs to be connected by bluetooth to your phone either way, so having it in form of glasses sounds dumb
